One thing I never understood about Runaan's Hurricane and both Hydra items.

Hydra causes a small AoE effect with the champion's weapon being the "center" or "eye" (or a conic AoE attack with the melee attack being the starting point).

Runaan's Hurricane causes a single targeted projectile to split into 3 projectiles.

...The story about the Hydra is that cutting off one head causes more to grow in its place... ...Hurricanes are massive swirling storms that have a center focal point, or an eye...

Does anyone feel like Riot shit the bed on this one, and gave each item the wrong name?

It's because the Hydra items are like the heads of a Hydra. Also referencing the base item for the Hydra items (Tiamat), they are like the heads of the 5-headed chromatic dragon Tiamat, which is similar to a Hydra in form, but not function. So the Hydra name doesn't relate to the function of the specific items, but of the item line relating within itself.

As for Hurricane, we use terminology like "hail of arrows", and hail is also precipitation. Large numbers of projectiles can fall like precipitation from the sky, such as with a flurry of arrows (flurry also associates with snow). Creating more projectiles gives the sense of precipitation, like that of a storm. Thus, the naming convention still works for Hurricane.

I think that a hurricain is like a storm and its always raining in storms. and runaans helps you rain aarows and projectiles. tbh no idea ab hydra other than the ravenous part is due to lifesteal. good question.
