What to change (Part 1: champions) (Chapter 1: Aatrox)

So, i decided to start a discussion on the current balance of... well, basically everything. Since i have lots of free time on my hands, i'll probably post more than one chapter a day. I hope you will have a good time reading this, and best of luck on the fields of justice!

So, Aatrox. Aatrox

Some time ago it was on the top of the meta, but now it's mostly forgotten and buried underground. But why? Let's see:

Most of the "bruiser" toplaners are gone because of all the ranged or semi-ranged toplaners that can bully them out in the laning phase, and remain a threat in mid-to-lategame. I'm talking about Rumble Rumble , Ryze Ryze , Lulu Lulu , or even Maokai Maokai just because his extreme sustain and teamfight presence.

In the old Trundle/Jax/Shyvana/Renekton/Aatrox meta Aatrox was an excellent toplaner with good laning thanks to his sustain, and a reasonable threat in midgame because of his area damage and some kind of cc. The problem now is that Aatrox's sustain can easily be outdamaged by any champion while he doesn't really have other tools to remain in lane because of his low base stats especially his health. (and he's extremely vulnerable to cc)

The solution would be increasing Aatrox's base and/or per level health, and armor and/or magic resits, so that he can remain in lane while not meaning more threat than before. Changing his Q to have a faster animation would be better too, but it's not that necessary.

What did you think about this thread? Tell your thoughts about Aatrox!

You can't fix Aatrox by increasing his stats, that will only make him broken OP.

Currently he is extremely vulnerable against basically anything. Not making him scale better while helping him stay alive in lane poses no threat to his enemy. I only talked about health and armor and magic resist. Increasing his health by 30, 40 or even 50 would not be a huge buff, but would help him in not dying. Same with his armor or mr, increasing one of those by 3 or 5 would not make him broken.

No, he's only vulnerable to champions who can deal enough damage to him in a short enough duration (and having short cooldowns) that he can't stay in range to sustain off minions (zoning). Saying he's vulnerable to anything is an extreme untruth. He has quite a few match ups where he lanes just fine.

He doesn't need additional stats, that is NOT his problem.

Exactly, but against other bruisers who still initially get beaten by those semi-ranged champions i talked about. I will talk about the top lane bruisers in an "overall" thread, but currently i'll state this: most of the current meta toplaners can easily outbully, outdamage, outtrade him, whatever you call it. Most of the current toplaners can do the same with a large chunk of melee champs too, it's not only Aatrox problem

He's actually quite capable of beating Ryze/Rumble in lane. He actually is outright better than maokai in lane early game.

Increase his base AS Remove the AS on his passive Give him bonus Lifesteal for every missing health percentage and have that turn into AD when his W is changed to the damage portion Increase the AS given by his R

I dont honestly think the problem is his base stats.

I play Aatrox and I agree that he needs to be beefed up defensively since his abilities use up his health in the early game. He's hardly a match for top laners like Pantheon and Riven who are inherently tanky and have cc.
