The ultimate rules of League of legends (pt.1)

SS Enforcer··72 votes·4,670 views

1.: You are not perfect in any sense.

Many people don't get this, and usually when they do something bad, they blame everyone else, they try to blame it on the lag, or the opness of the opposing champion(s) or the worst one: the enemy being lucky.

  • 1/a. Blaming your team won't result in anything positive.

Trust me, it will just weaken the blamed person's self esteem, and make their game worse by a bit. Or he will just assume you are an agressive, idiotic rager and he will mute you. (yes, people. there is a mute button.)

  • 1/b. The enemy is not lucky.

League of legends is a program. A game that has no random elements except crit chances and gamebreaking bugs. Aside from that, it doesn't involve luck at all.

2.: People who say the following sentences should be time banned because they don't understand the concept of competitively playing with and against people:

"Easy" - In all honesty, screw you. We get that we lost because you were better. It's perfectly fine. You won. You are happy. But saying "easy" at the end of the game is like kicking into a dead dog. It's the biggest douchebaggery you could ever do.

"Noob" - People who have the courage to play ranked in these times should not be considered newbies. People who are on your level should not be considered noobs, because they are on your level which would conclude that you are a noob too. Also, it's really overused.

"(insert any obscene raging here)" - You are being so hateful that you begin to curse all over your teammates? Really? Even if you are a "ladderclimber", league is just a game. If you lose a ranked game, it's just one game out of the thousands you may play. Lost a promo? Don't be sad, because someone in the enemy won a game after a bad losing streak and they are really happy and thought you played good in that game. Or something like that. When i lose and i feel bad and a little bit angry i always think of this.

3.: It's NEVER over.

Everyone knows those doomsayers, right? First blood goes to the enemy and they spam "gg" all chat. Remember, no game is over until the very end. I had a lot of comeback games because i'm more of a mid-to-lategame player, and i know this very well. The biggest comeback of mine was from 2-10 i think. Never give up, and never lose your focus by blaming others. Maybe you needed that one bit of focus to be succesful and come back from that bad situation. Who knows?

4.: Let no meta be your shackle.

Try out anything what you want to try. (not in ranked of course) But if you have a champion that you feel comfortable playing with and you play good with it, then pick it in ranked and ignore the hateful people. If you like to play Teemo, play him. If you like playing Galio, play him. If you have a special, strange ap tank Jax build and it worked several times, try it out. Don't be scared.

5.: You are playing with people.

Sometimes my heart breaks when i see things like one person, a living, breathing thing saying: "i hope you get cancer" or something like that. You are talking to another living, breathing thing. You're wishing him to die the most horrible death known just because he got caught? Really? You're not talking to NPC's, you are talking to living people, who got home from their weekday and just want to play league to relax. They have mothers, they have relatives, friends, problems, etc. Please think about this before you say something hateful as this.

It can all be summed in a simple rule "Don't be a douche", but most people fail that simple rule.

Mister Punches1 votes

You'd be surprised how often this happens in just Normals. I've only seen it once or twice in bots when I first started, but in Normals, this rule is broken by someone in the game more often than not.

The5lacker4 votes

"But really, what even is a douche?"

You, if you have to ask that question.

ujf2qEqxi95 votes

That makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever... a douche is a REAL, PHYSICAL thing. The douche you are referring to is a MADE UP, FAKE name to somehow insult someone.

Got news for you: a douche is a hygeine product... meaning it's clean. As in: so fresh and so clean. Which is cooler than you.

The5lacker1 votes

So what you're saying is you aspire to be an unnecessary and counterproductive feminine hygiene product?

And, more importantly, you're saying you're blind to the progression of human language and slang?

So you are a douche. Congrats. I'm sure your mother is super proud of you.

Rew7111 votes

I want to frame this comment. It's not only educational but that also makes me want to say "I have a douche car" because its so clean.

Not to get too far off topic, but you are mistaken. It is marketed as a hygiene product, but is actually damaging and unnecessary.

I thought the first rule of League was "Don't chase Singed"?

Kuroi8610 votes

Rule 1. Don't chase Singed. Rule 1. Don't feed Teemo. Rule 1. Don't duel Fiddlesticks.

BetaDude406 votes

Don't duel Fiddlesticks unless you have a knockup? Lots of champs have those now, so his channel isn't always as effective.

Still fun as hell to play though

I literally bought Surprise Party Fiddle just so I could properly ult penta the enemy team while all chatting "SURPRISE!!!!"

Rule 1. Don't duel Fiddlesticks.

Dueling fiddle is fine as long as you have CC (and save it for his ult/drain) And you can survive while you run around being feared

Kuroi861 votes

You also need to be relatively tanky enough to survive what he does hit you with. With three points in Q, he can get off the full ult channel before you come out of fear. And if he starts with Dark Wind and it hits you twice, well that's also an ult channel lol. I think best way to go is disengage til his ult and Q are on cooldown and then try to burst him.

I don't play fiddle much but I remember quite a while ago when I played fiddle a Jax jumped on me to try and duel me and he opened with counter strike so I just stood there and tanked it and he got me to about 20% hp and then I just drained him and there was nothing he could do

I agree with everything you posted here except this

it doesn't involve luck at all.

while i respect the mindset of self accountability this statement entails there is enough luck in this game through matchmaking with toxic players, having an afk/dc on one team or the other, random ping spikes, gamebreaking bugs, crit/dodge chances, etc... some of these can have a much larger impact on the game compared to some non-random elements.

Well, you have a point, but some of these problems could be fixed if Riot would create a better matchmaking system and punish afkers way, WAY harder than nowadays.

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

I think a lot of these problems could be made better by riot but many of them cannot be fixed outright. the matchmaking system and penalizing toxic players are good examples, as there is no perfect answer to these problems.

(excluding rage quitters in afk/dc arguments below, that should be dealt with as the toxic behaviour that it is)

on afk/dc there are many reasons for afk/dc that i don't think should be punished as harshly as many propose. if you are having trouble connecting to the game that often isn't your fault and any penalties aren't going to improve overall behaviour because the behaviour wasn't optional. if a player dc its a ruined experience for them as well....

the afk/dc problem is also one of statistics: if the average player experiences a 1:100 connection issue for whatever reason then 1:10 games will have a dc. this will lead people to believing there is a widespread problem with people who are dc ing all the time when this isn't the case.

Cozarkian4 votes

With regard to 1/a, the one question that pisses me off is "why?" after I do something stupid. I always provide an explanation (which sometimes is nothing more than "no good reason, I just made a stupid mistake") followed by asking "Why would you ask a question that serves no purpose other than to piss off your teammate?"

Note: I don't do this when it is actually a constructive question, like "why didn't you follow," only when it is used as a substitute for calling your teammate stupid.

Envy Sin3 votes

"1/a. Blaming your team won't result in anything positive."

I just played a game as Nami

My ADC Twitch and the mid lane Yasuo were bitching. I told them to cut the shit or i was afk. (Which mean yas ult loses one chance at a knock up and my ADC loses there support ;) they shut the fuck up and played the game.) I shot called we won.

Yay for negative reinforcement.

What has the world come to when saying "easy" and "noob" should result in a ban? The world isn't rainbows and sunshine, so I don't know why you want or expect LoL to be. Also your argument on calling people noobs doesn't make sense. Your saying "evil can't call people evil" or "bad can't call people bad" which is false. Calling someone bad doesn't equate to calling yourself good. Lots of people don't seem to understand that. Yes that poppy top with 90 cs while darius has 212 is a noob.

I never type to people saying easy or noob, but I don't care when people say it either. Honestly if you get your jimmies rustled over someone saying easy or noob you shouldn't be on the intetnet.

Oh, i don't get offended by things like that. However, calling someone a noob while not saying anything that could be a contstructive critique, or not taking the blame by saying "my bad" when it was clearly yours, is a pretty damn assholey move.

It's not the problem with the terms of "easy" and "noob", but the context behind them. Someone spewing these words out on a daily basis is a damaged person who can't understand the concept of being sportsmanlike, or forgiving, which is a big fuckin drawback in this thing called "life".

If no ones offended then what's the problem? The damaged person is the person who cries over someone saying easy.

Not being able to take criticism no matter how fierce is a pretty big drawback in something called "life".

Hellish Prophecy8 votes

Currently trying to find a way to appropriately respond to this without sounding like an asshole. So while I do this nicely I want to make a point.... If you say "Not being able to take criticism no matter how fierce is a pretty big drawback in something called 'life'.", then you either have never felt real pain, had a real problem, or you handle things better than most. There are some people out there who have been harassed and abused their whole life, and they deal with this shit every day with no problem. They come home after a very fucked up week to play some League and have fun. Then they get into the game, of course. They aren't the best because they work all the time, and have no time to "git guud" because they are trying to survive in "life". He/She makes a simple mistake and gives First Blood. What happens then? He's called a noob repeatedly, his whole fucking team harasses him, prays his family dies of cancer, tells him to kill himself, everything. Would you like to guess what happens next? After a shit week, and going on a simple video game and getting told to kill himself, he breaks. He is damaged. He deals with this shit every day of every minute just in reality or "life". Why the fuck is he dealing with it over a game? Why the fuck is he dealing with a life where he breaks down on a video game because some spoiled ass 10 year old has the RIGHT to insult him and tell his family to get cancer. Yet you might have just been able to suck it up, or didn't live a hard life, or not used to being verbally attacked every fucking day for simple mistakes or issues.

That's why this is a goddamn problem.

Apologies for the language, I hate the ignorance in "it's life, deal with it".

Theres a difference between saying kill yourself/hope u get cancer and noob/easy.

Togekiss242 votes

Theres a difference between saying kill yourself/hope u get cancer and noob/easy.

Not really. See, the words themselves aren't offensive, it's the meaning that carries with them. Whether you are calling someone a "noob" or "retard feeder," you are sending the same message to your subject internally: That he/she is inferior and that he/she is obligated to feel bad about themselves. That internal message is what hurts people, and when I say "hurt", don't think it means that people will go all baawww and teary eyed because of your meany-weeny message, most people with any backbone will go on the offensive, launching an attack back at you, to the point where it escalates into a heated conflict between you an your subject, all because subliminally, you are attacking them.

Also, you seem to fail to grasp the difference between constructive criticism and personally attacking someone. Calling someone "bad" sends a much more offensive message than stating "you need to work on X, and here's what you can do." That latter statement doesn't just address the problem, it also attempts to find a solution, THAT is constructive criticism, and any backlash from the receiver will be his own problem. So I'd really rethink just how harmful it is to call someone anything in this game.

If in ranked and you want to win you probably shouldn't say much to individuals other then to praise them and possibly giving them light suggestions (because if you tell them what to do you can be perceived as a know it all or like you are looking down on them or whatever)

I think it is much more preferable to say things like **WE **should probably try to build some armor as they are mostly AD

In ranked it is simply to time consuming and difficult to try and teach someone and to try and give them tips or advice and people are simply to defensive for it to be worth trying but in normal games hey you can try if you want to

But other then that I do agree

I said i'm not offended by it. But there might be some people on a day where they simply had a couple of bad games and then they get mached up with a guy who is spamming

"this team so bad"

"fuckin noobs"

"fuck you noob"

"why noob"

And they might lose their shit. You have to assume that people are not the same.

Also, this is not criticism, this is trash talk. Calling someone a noob is far, far away from criticism, because you don't make your points, it's not constructive, etcetera.

heh these sound almost like the ultimate rules to life. 100% upvote you deserve a item 2009 , I really liked:

Don't be sad, because someone in the enemy won a game after a bad losing streak and they are really happy and thought you played good in that game. Or something like that. When i lose and i feel bad and a little bit angry i always think of this.

because remember 50% of the people playing league have to lose. You will lose so why not find a way to enjoy the game and improve yourself even when you're losing, statistically it should double your happy experiences.

  1. Agreed 1a. Agreed 1b. Maybe. It seems like some of the time the enemy is given things that I have been denied on. Although, that is probably my reluctance to accept 1.

  2. Disagree. Some trash talking should be allowed. Agree on that raging is unacceptable and needs to be punished.

  3. Agree. I once came back from an 18K gold deficit. I do want to point out that while it is never over, it doesn't mean the game is worth playing.

  4. Agree. Although I will be supicous if my teammate want to try jungle Teemo, as I have tried it before and it isn't all that great.

  5. Agree. People need to realize that they are playing with actual people.

But, I AM a perfectly terrible ADC. :/

1/b. The enemy is not lucky.

To be fair. If you blink at the Same time that I use my Lissandra Ult (Resulting in the auto-hit skill missing), that IS luck. A fraction of a second in either direction by either of us, and the skill either wouldn't have gone off or you would have been stunned. Also, I consider it luck when you (or I) manage to survive a fight with less than 20 health. ... Enough to die to a single minion AA.

Those nit-picks aside. I agree with it all.

If my enemy gets five crits in a row and I get none, its entirely luck. If someone just-so-happens to gank at the same time as I do, its luck. Also the amount of bugs in this game makes shit almost entirely luck. In addition to this, Blind Pick champion select. You can be hard countered and removed from a game entirely by luck.

3.: It's NEVER over.

It can be over very easily. When the enemy Katarina gets fed and your mid lane doesn't understand spacing, its over. Don't preach this bullshit. I don't want another 10-15 minutes in a game we've obviously lost because people think like that. Thats horseshit and ruins the game for the other people on their team.

4.: Let no meta be your shackle.

Except Riot is enforcing the meta at this point. We HAVE to follow the meta. We can be BANNED for not following the meta. The meta isn't an option anymore, with both Riot's backing of it and the streamers people follow like sheep, its all over.

Some of these rules are pretty dumb mate.

Getting 5 crits at 25% crit chance is kind of lucky. Getting 5 crits in a row at 50% crit chance is not as lucky. That Yasuo getting 5 crits in a row is not luck when it's at 100% chance. Getting counter-ganked at the perfect timing could have easily been perfect planning. Them jumping on you the second they hit level 2 is also planning, not luck.

Or learn the strengths/weaknesses of champions? Sure, that Kata might have 15 kills from mid, but if you aren't brain dead she can be completely useless and then you just have to deal with the rest of her team which is probably not that fed.

No you can't. It's even on their site for stuff you won't get banned for. I see support Veigar a lot, and no one banned or reported for it.

My favorite is the people that say easy adyer a 50 minute game. No it was not easy, all it does is make you look really bad if that's an easy game for you.

The advantage of playing off meta champions is that your opponents are less likely to know how to deal with and play against that champion properly

And well I have a shitty computer so I have a terrible fps 10-40 though sometimes it is fine and stays at around 50-60 but I usually don't mention it because it does no good and it doesn't really change anything

Aside from that, it doesn't involve luck at all.

Tell that to the people that get kills from just using their semi-global ult into fog of war randomly finishing the enemy off/stealing baron. Also, tell that to the 2-11-0 player that won because they randomly got paired up with the 31-1-10 Draven. Also, tell that to the person that completely missed their skill shot on you and it accidentally hit the person behind you who just that second flashed in to help the fight. Also, tell that to the person that got a kill on you after you killed them during a tower dive and the next wave of minions shows up just barely blocking your escape enough to take 1 too many turret shots. Also, tell that to EVERY SINGLE LANER THAT GETS FED DOUBLE BUFFS BY YOUR JUNGLER WHILE YOU AREN'T EVEN IN LANE.

I agree most of the game is skill and people overstate the amount of luck in the game, but there is definitely a place for the phrase "omg you're so lucky" in League.

Also on that "it's never over" part, I have come back and won games where we were down 30 kills and our nexus at literally 1% health when the team is just so excited and believes in the comeback. However, I have never won a game where we gave up a bunch of kills and all of my teammates proceeded to say "gg I give up fking noob team" for every death after(usually the people saying this are like 4-11 blaming the 3-10 guy) and are voting to surrender every time the option comes up. It actually usually is over if the whole team believes it is over. I mean the enemy could stand next to each other and dive an Orianna with ult up with none of them building MR or health under both nexus turrets and she just presses R... or the fed Fizz could suddenly be ddosed DC..... but a lot of things have to fall into place for you to just be handed a win that you already gave up on trying to earn.
