Make every new champions/reworks disabled in ranked and unbanable in Normal Draft for a week.

I'm tired of losing games because someone picked a new champion / reworked champion and didn't know how to play him, ending feeding as hell. I'm tired of not being able to learn to play as, with or against a new champion / reworked champion because some idiot bans it in normal game. Make this stop please.

Also, "I own a PBE account so I learned how to play it" isn't an acceptable excuse.

I don't know where I want to be with this...

On one side, yes. Because playing the champ, and against the champ is the best way to learn. Also they don't belong in ranked until playerbase has a good understanding of the champ..

On the other side, imagine not being able to ban the next yasuo for a week, if the champ is obviously broken, which happens ALOT on release, you shouldn't be forced to play against it with bans available.

I'm upvoting for keeping new champs out of ranked, but I believe they should be bankable still.

I believe I have a better idea:

'Players are banned from using Champions in Ranked Matches unless they have used them X amount of times.'

This would stop Players from using a Champion first time in Ranked regardless of whether the Champion was recently released or here since the dawn of time. It should be mandatory that a Player knows the basics (at minimum) before they participate in a game-mode designed for serious play.

-- 'But what about players who recently became Level 30?' --

A new player has to go through 200 - 300 matches (I'm not counting Smurfs) before they become Level 30. This gives them enough time to learn the basics of several Champions, especially when taking into account the Free Champion Rotation and the incentive to play Champions you earn through purchases or rewards.

-- 'But what about OTPs? --

An OTP should still learn the basics of several other Champions/Roles. This is so they:

  • Don't screw over their Team-mates by picking an ill-fitting Champion for the Team-comp (Damage Type Heavy, Lacking a crucial Role, etc)
  • Don't lock in a Champion that's strongly countered by the opponent (The enemy locks in Teemo? Better pick Nasus)
  • Don't cause chaos in the Champion Selection process when they don't get the desired Role (Hi, I'm a Shaco OTP that got auto-filled into ADC. I'm either getting the Role I want or locking in Shaco and trolling my Team-mates).

I support this wholeheartedly

I'm fine with this. Having to waste a ban on a teammate or do multiple dodges because someone wants to try a recently released or reworked champ is not fun. Giving those players a grace period in normal draft to learn a new champ is a fine trade off.

Nope. The people who are bold enough to pick up the new champion, learn them in and out, and use them in Ranked or learn their counters are the ones favored.

Fortune favors the bold.

Other than that, they need data as soon as possible and Ranked game data is best game data.

We did however get 2 more bans than we've ever had before, so take advantage of being able to ban no matter what pick you are. Better still, buy the champ, learn how they work, and be ready with your comfortable Champions while they try to play with their inexperienced new Champion.

If I got 1 million mastery points in Yi and he got reworked why should i not play him in ranked?

CamilleRule3410/15/2017, 6:22:59 PM4 votes

I mean people are going to feed regarldess, and there are plenty of people who have been playing for a week maybe more on PBE. It wouldnt be right to deny them access, feeders are gonna happen no matter what, lol.

Or just accept a game that relies on people not doing something dumb is going to rely on people not doing something dumb.

That's what blind pick/ARAM is for. But I agree for ranked.

You know you could just...NOT play ranked for a few days after a new rework, right? No one is forcing you to play ranked while people are experimenting with new champions.

Having new champions available in ranked immediately is important for Riot to make money. Lots of people see the Champion Spotlight, the other spoilers and get hyped up. They spend RP to buy the champion and maybe get the release skin bundle. That's a good source of income for Riot, there's no reason for us to want that to stop. We don't pay to play this game, and if Riot doesn't get money they can't pay people to balance it every two weeks.

As for reworked champions, they usually aren't that different from their old selves.

It's two days of headache every three months or so. Just take a break from League when a new champion is released if it bothers you that much.

or you could play blind to learn the new champs?

YambrinZ10/16/2017, 11:01:55 AM2 votes

The logic is fail. If playing on pbe isnt learning, then how is this one week going to do anything? You should probably just ban it yourself so your own team doesnt troll you.

Sona Ping10/15/2017, 7:19:31 PM2 votes

And some people get tired of losing games because some idiot picked a new champion ending feeding as hell and they ban it. Or ban it because they get tired of playing with the same champion or two in every game. Or ban it because they are tired of having someone pop out of nowhere and start stabbing them.

So why are we arbitrarily deciding that one person's wants are more important than everyone else's in the lobby?

Why is the preference of the person who wants to play Eve more important than the person who doesn't want to play with Eve, they are both just one guy who wants something, especially since the former probably isn't going to get Eve and is going to be picked by someone else.

Double especially, "why should we do this", considering we all already know that it's a matter of time before Riot is going to release something broken that is going to deserve a ban regardless.

I see someone taking ideas from Smite, although i do agree with the 1 weak of being disabled in Ranked for new and reworked champions as it gives players plenty of time to learn how to play with as and or against it. And if they play only Ranked then that is their problem.

Muffles10/15/2017, 6:53:00 PM2 votes

I agree with ranked but normals are normals. You should not expect someone to bring their main there.

I'd bite on this.
