How the hell do I counter fiddle?

Ao Dracona··12 votes·10,453 views

I played a game against fiddle support today and I felt totally helpless against him. Like I legit couldn’t do anything when I tried to engage I got disengaged and took damage I mainly play tank supports So what are somethings I can do as a tank support if fiddle gets picked after I pick and what are some champs I can learn that counter him?

EDIT: thank u for all of ur suggestions, I played Ali against fiddle today and had almost no trouble dealing with at all

  1. Strongly advise not go Shen Support. He doesn't offer a lot of utility or follow-up CC compared to other tank supports, and is twice more vulnerable whenever he goes for the trade since he lacks a lot of self-sustaining kit.

  2. Alistar - An instant WQ on both laners would disallow Fiddlestick to react back for a little moment. After knocking themup, hit E instantly to gain some stacks. From that point, all Fiddlestick can do is Fear you & spam E, which shouldn't force you to walk away too far to go for the E-stun.

  3. Braum - Your shield eliminates his E which prevents it from bouncing to other allies. At least hit your Q to either one or the other, so your ADC can do some follow-up damage. At that point, Fiddlestick has to decide whether to Fear you or the ADC.

Braum seems really fun to learn and I already have experience with alistar this really helped :D

BeatzBoyFTW gave pretty decent advice and Alistar especially can be good against Fiddlesticks, especially because Alistar can provide some sustain through laning with his Battle Roars.

Braum, however, is a much less reliable as a counter because Fiddlesticks Q fear is actually really good at peeling Braum out of fights and Braum can't hard CC Fiddlesticks on-demand because he relies on his passive stacks or ult for hard CC. I would say that Braum is only an average or even slightly weak matchup against Fiddlesticks, but it still comes down to a skill matchup.

There are stronger picks against Fiddlesticks in my opinion. I strongly recommend Bard for you if you need to hard-counter Fiddlesticks. See my other post where I outline how to counter Fiddlesticks with him.

Perfect reply! in my opinion burst supports are good too!

either build up MR or use someone with Hard CC like Blitz or cho.

Also use items with Grievous Wounds to weaken his drain.

Most of Fiddlesticks power is in his E poke during laning, his ult in teamfights, and his Q for peeling/catching. His drain is actually usually his least impactful ability unless if he's against heavy poke, in which case he can actually just go and safely drain gromp through the wall if he's on purple map side (I know a lot of tricks as a Fiddlesticks support player). Grievous wounds is way less effective than timing CC against him to cancel his drain in fights. GW is fine against him, but it's definitely not a hard counter since it won't do anything to deal with his Q, E, R, so I wouldn't recommend prioritizing GW just for Fiddlesticks' sake. I do recommend summoner 14 ignite against him though since it includes GW and can help burst him down since he's squishy.

Thx this really helped :D

As someone who has played a lot of Fiddlesticks support, I really don't agree with his advice. Blitzcrank can work against him, but I would not call it a counterpick but rather a skill matchup.

Unless if the Fiddlesticks player underestimates you as Blitzcrank, he will probably maintain his range advantage and will not give you any opportunity to grab him, unless if he's already ulted into a fight, in which case grabbing him into your team will often be a grave mistake, especially if he has item 3157 item 2420 available.

I once saved a fight because I was behind a wall ulting and a blitzcrank just happened to throw his ult at my adc where I was going to pop up.

But I never really got the zhonya's with his ult, it is pretty pointless, his ult is easy to walk out of and completely avoid if he zhonya's, I have tried it on him so many times and it was just a massive waste of his ult. It's easier to ult from a hidden position and fear them the moment you show up, then throw a crow just before it ends to give an extra second of silenced, it pretty much kills anything squishy.

I would actually often take Fiddlesticks against Blitzcrank because Fiddlesticks' poke range allows him to do his thing while staying far enough back from Blitzcrank threat zone... As someone who has played a good amount of Fiddlesticks support, I would say that Nami is actually his biggest counter because she can sustain her carry through his poke and has the CC to defeat him in fights and peel/interrupt his ult. Bard is also good against him for similar reasons. Soraka Sona can be good against him, but only if the person playing them knows to give space between themselves and their carry so that the crows don't bounce between them. Sona especially has a tendency to hug their carry and get themselves destroyed by multiple crow bounces.

Why would you build MR when it doesn't do anything?

Pick high damage laners and don't wait, just smash him at any chance, then ignite him and see him burn

Probably someone along the lines of Alistar would be your best bet.

You can use any ability of yours to break his W, can't be feared out of W (although he might be able to prevent you from using Q after), have R to get out of the fear, and your passive helps you sustain through his poke. You can also just W him when he ults in.

Leona also might work in lane, as well. As should any other champion that can lock him down and basically ignore his Q.

I personally think learning Bard is your best option. You can build him pretty tanky since you like tank supports. I think he's a strong pick against Fiddlesticks and that's coming from someone who has played a lot of Fiddle support.

Give your carry plenty of healing shrines piled around your turret so that they can sustain through Fiddlesticks' poke. If you get the chance, poke Fiddlesticks with your autos and/or Q, and try to cancel his drains with Q if you can. Take summoner 14 and you may be able to combo him down if you manage to Q bind him when he tries to drain something, because he's really squishy so he's often easy to pick off if he's low enough that he's trying to sustain back up with his drain. Use your magical journey to help your jungler flank behind Fiddlesticks because he's immobile and squishy.

If Fiddlesticks ults, try to cancel it with your Q stun, but if you are unable then use your ult to negate his ult. You can ult Fiddlesticks, your teammates, or both and it will reliably negate his ult which makes it convenient and easy counterplay.

ban him, dodge que, alt f4 and hope for remake. There is a reason why morgana is most popular support now.

The best counter to a poke support like Fiddlesticks is a Sustain support like Sona, Janna, or Nami. Or you can also go with a far stronger poke support like Xerath.

If you want to play tanky supports, then I suggest ones with better engage and CC than Shen. Shen's only CC is his taunt, and that's easily dodgeable. Try supports like Taric, Leona, and Alistar, all of whom have far better lockdown than Shen. Fiddle walks up to damage you, you just go in and keep him right where he is for your ADC to kill him.

Or you can always play hook champs like Blitzcrank, Pyke, Nautilus, and Thresh. One hook, and Fiddle is basically dead every time.

As for things you can do as a melee support in general, it's best to just posture and walk around looking scary in lane. Put the threat of your engage into their heads whenever they try to go for CS. Mind game the shit out of them.

As a person who likes playing support fiddlesticks, sustain hurts my poking strategy and as most sustain champs are also ranged pokers they can out poke me and ruin the effectiveness of my crow bounces. Fiddlesticks can only fear 1 person at a time so you might be too deep if your adc can't support you with damage. If i'm at full health, over level 6, and look like i'm heading back to base, I prob trying to yolo ulti you. Also warding the bush i'm hiding in at level 6 keeps me from yolo ulting in.

I like melee ranged tank supports as I can poke them easily and fear them away when they plan to go in. They tend to hug their adc which makes crow bounces more successful. In these situations you need to pull me at the right time or wait for a gank to pull in.

Leona . Hard engage fiddle and stop is healing with your Q. He is so squishy he will always die after hitting your E

take the biscuits runes from the inspiration tree get level 2, hard engage on him if above fails, back, possibly sneak up on him when you return to lane, hard engage on him if above fails, get level 6 and hard engage on him if above fails, let him auto-shove your wave... and hard engage on him

For champs I'd suggest running some kind of strong engage thats hard to avoid once it starts, champs like Alistar, leona and thresh tend to do well because they can get off there full combo before the silence can be useful.

As for actually playing into him in the mid to late game. i like to run ingenious hunter plus zombie ward (ingenious hunter lowers trinket cd). With this you can use you support item to place wards and than use sweeper lense if your ahead to clean up vision or blue trinket if behind to litter your flanks with wards as to have some vision control from a safe distance. All of this shuts down fiddles ability to jump scare your team with his ult. And as for items, buying an adaptive helm and making sure one, maybe two people on your team have greviuos wounds items would be nice.

Also for the love of all that's holy don't go running up to the enemy turret without having vision of Fiddlesticks post-6.

I had a game of Fiddlesticks support where I literally counted in chat how many times the enemy bot-lane ran up to our turret without establishing vision and I could ult over the wall behind them and, if not kill them both, kill at least one and burn multiple summoners. I think I was up to 5 or 6 times before lane phase really had to end because the enemy team top-side was getting too strong.

If you don't mind being unconventional, E-max Sion support actually can land some formidable poke against Fiddlesticks while in-lane and to boot you'll become tanky later on. Sure he can drain it back up but drain isn't cheap and also forces him to stay in place while pushing the wave.

Hard engage champs like Alistar Leona

or sustain like Nami Soraka . Also Vision is also key for going against fidds especially post 6. If they’re on the red side ward the area between the river brush and the red side tri brush. If on the blue side ward the river brush. Blue side tri brush or the entrance between the blue side tri brush and their tower. Thats the main spots they usually pop their ults in lane.

The problem isn't the lane , I'm fine with him being a lane bully , but play a melee champion against this guy and you are like , really trolling , he will q the shit out of you , qss ? you still get silenced however , he is hella squishy , usually reaching him is worth it , but good luck dealing with his team while he is in Zhonia

Couple tips. Don't be near minions, run from the players, dont get drainned. Bushes still let crow hit you even with no vision [slayer-jinx-wink] you can't x'D just dont die and let your adc farm.... OR

I'd say tank items, but those are just a myth of seasons past.

Fiddle does one thing and one thing only: make one plauer unable to play league of legends for two seconds. He is very squishy and has no mobility, he does a bit of damage but it's nothing compare to the likes of Brand and Zyra. If you like tank just play hard engage support and engage on him, he can't do shit when you get on his face and burst him down. If you want to play wow at the same time, just play healing support like sona and nami, you out range him and heal all of his poke.
