QoL Change for Riven

My IGN Sucks··9 votes·1,473 views

I'm just suggesting a small change to her E (Valor), which will allow a movement command to continue after she uses it. This change would just be exactly what they did to Flash summoner 4 not too long ago.

EDIT: After some testing, the current E really does help with wall hopping. Something that would allow the change I'm suggesting and not affect wall hopping is to change her Q (Broken Wings) so that she faces the cursor location on each Q (or even just the second one) instead of just the last one.

same thing could apply for renekton's E too, would indeed be nice

Yeah I hate how you have to manually click after E, feels a little off. This would mainly make running a long distance a small bit smoother but could make a bigger deal while laning

I really support this for all dashes which don't do this.

How about make her Q go where the mouse is pointed like her E does already. For instance, if riven right clicks on a champion behind a wall, then tries to Q over the wall, she looks sideways instead and goes sideways.

Why her E does this and not the Q is one of those "uncomplimenting difficulty" mechanics we see quite a bit now.

yea i find it weird to actually click to q

The fact that you dont move after using your e makes it easier to hop walls with her q

true i use this all the time to wall hop. i dont trust myself to time it properly i just e into the wall and then jump over.

yes pls i hate how it cancels movement

Before you make these requests, you should learn a few things about Riven:

  1. Her Q always smart-casts by default, even if you're using normal casting. That is, if you press the Q button while your mouse is hovering over an enemy unit, Riven will ALWAYS Q towards that target, regardless of range. Why you would right-click on an enemy walls apart is beyond me.
  2. Wall-hopping requires precise angles and being really close to the wall you're about to hop, you need to use a move command to set yourself up either way, even if you would use smartcasting on her third Q (OR if her Q worked the way you want it to).
  3. Her E is really fine, changing it might mess up some mechanics. More importantly, Riven's all about movement after using abilities, you should learn to do that, instead of acting like there's a problem with how her E works.
  4. Generally speaking League of Legends is all about DI-ing (Directional Input), I don't know why you would complain that you HAVE to move after you use an ability.

Why in the world would you assume so much in this comment?

  1. I always use Smartcast. Also, when did I ever say I right-clicked on enemy walls? Your entire first point just doesn't apply to anything I said.
  2. This is what I was trying to say. If her Q (first and second activation) were cursor-location reliant instead of specific target/which direction she's facing, then it would work exactly like her E does now when setting up a wall hop.
  3. I fail to see how giving her MORE movement with my suggested change would hinder her movement or mess with her mechanics. If anything, it would help her mechanics by eliminating a need for a right-click or A-click in certain situations. Maybe you could clarify on what you meant by this.
  4. I don't have a problem with having to move. It was a simple suggestion to make her E like Flash. It's functionally similar, except it's a smaller range and it procs her passive/gains a shield, so why not just make it to where the movement continuation is similar?

P.S. Not everything is adversarial. I simply posted this as a suggestion that would improve how she is played and how her mechanics would feel a lot smoother this way. It was to invite a discussion.

Yeah, or nerf her last Q activation and make the jump she does smaller. Really, it's too easy for her to spam in lane, and she shats on any melee top because she has no resource bar, like not even energy...

I wasn't assuming anything, I just read what you (and other people) wrote and responded to it. It would seem I was quite misunderstood (my bad, I guess):

  1. "Why you would right-click on an enemy, walls apart, is beyond me" should be the correct sentence. With my previous post I tried responding to a few points in ALL comments, not just yours. What I meant was that another person gave an example - if you right-clicked on an enemy on the other side of a wall then riven would look and jump sideways. Obviously, she was attempting to AA the champion you clicked on, because you issued a AA command. However, you should've just Q'd, while hovering your mouse over that enemy, instead of clicking on him. TO AVOID further confusion, let me clarify! Whether your settings are normal casting or quick casting (smartcasting) is completely irrelevant as far as Riven is concerned, hence why I couldn't have assumed anything, even if I wanted to. HOWEVER, when you're HOVERING OVER an enemy unit (with your mouse, it turns to a sword) and you press Q, IT WILL smartcast, dashing TOWARDS that particular unit, REGARDLESS of the direction you're facing. Before I go into my 2nd point I'm gonna take a second and do something very bad - I'm gonna assume something! Everything you've written so far suggests that you aren't aware of the mechanic OR its significance, but this mechanic is extremely important (normal casting Q vs smartcasting it).
  2. Her 1st and 2nd Q are irrelevant to how you set her hops up, because of the tech the 3rd Q (the hop) uses. I actually agree that her 3rd Q (the hop) should be changed a bit, because it currently uses Nidalee's old W tech (more or less) and it's quite demanding on how you use it. They changed the hop quite well on Nidalee. HOWEVER, Riven's 1st and 2nd Q should work the way they work now, because of the smartcasting mechanic. Unless....... YOU know what, you have a good point! They should change the tech, keep the current smartcasting version (where you hover over an enemy and it dashes towards them), but change the normal casting version to what you're suggesting. Btw, the reason why you need the smartcasted version is because you can't do triple Q combos without it, it would also mess up your spacing in laning phase, because (right now) if you smartcast Q on a minion very close to you, Riven will "dash" in place, not actually moving forward, which is very important both for spacing and her triple Q combo (the animation-cancelling, not the regular).
  3. I don't know the exact tech and I could be 100% wrong, but since this is a friendly discussion I should mention that the way I see her current E is that if you retain your movement after you dash with E (the change you propose), maybe it will mess up her triple Q combos right after you dash (cause she's supposed to stay in place when you do those). But maybe it won't change a thing and it should be changed the way you suggest. I, personally, have NEVER stopped in place after dashing with her E, simply because I've always cancelled all her animations with movement and it never felt clunky to me.
  4. Since I've already answered this point, I'd like to take the time and apologize if I've seemed hostile, it was never my intent. The point that I was trying to make was simple - Riven may seem awkward to play to (Riven) beginners, but that's because people aren't generally aware of her (smartcasting) mechanics and the constant movement you need with her. I, personally, really like her, she's one of the most agile and dynamic champions in the game and I've never associated her with "clunkiness".

P.S: Last clarification on her normal-casting vs smartcasting Q: it does NOT matter what your settings are! She will always smartcast Q (dash towards that particular unit) if you're hovering over an enemy unit while you're pressing the Q button, regardless of the direction you're facing and she will always normal-cast (dash towards the direction she's facing) if you're not hovering any enemy units, while you're pressing the Q button. P.S.S: Also, sorry for the wall of text.
