Are East Coast players supposed to migrate to LAN?

Reddit Thread Edition: http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2q7ise/are_east_coast_players_supposed_to_migrate_to_lan/

Riot's been offering free transfers to Latin America North since the 13th, and they've been otherwise silent on providing concrete solutions for fixing the East Coast ping situation. I've tried contacting support many times; they always tell me my connection is bad or to use a service like WTFast (AKA pay money to play League of Legends at a lower ping). Either that or we get told that they're "planning" something, only to tell us they're moving the servers down the street a few months down the road.

Meanwhile I get about 35-50ms playing Dota 2, World of Warcraft, and Starcraft 2. Still get 115 playing League of Legends. I used to get about 70 ping in 2009, I guess the continent stretched over the last 5 years. Hell, even bloody Runescape has East Coast servers.

It's not just the ping either, it's the egregious amount of hops you need to go through; if any of these hops has an issue, you might get ping spikes/lost packets/connection issues. This affects gameplay pretty badly, on top of actions feeling sluggish, some combos are even gated from players.

And to add insult to the injury, LAN's server is based in Florida.

Am I getting the message? Because that's the message I'm getting Riot. You keep saying in interviews that you pay attention to players who play your game while also being one of the biggest grossing multiplayer games ( http://www.capitalotc.com/league-of-legends-to-generate-1-billion-revenue-in-2014-to-riot-games/23998/ ).

Can something concrete be put on the table for 2015? I want to play this game, not Dota 2.

I'm still not sure why they don't address this problem. Like, I understand that it may be hard for them, or that there is probably more to the story, but they have literally made no effort to better the issue. I would be satisfied if they were at least trying to do something about it.

No you cannot get anything concrete because the funeral for the Riot of 2009 was last week. New riot barely has any communication with the players and will tell you that it is your problem the game will not work even though thousands of people are experiencing the same thing that started at the same time.

I live in East Coast and they should just centralize a server in NA

To my knowledge, they still don't have that brand spanking new west coast server they were prioritizing over East Coast solutions, which they said would be built in November.

What are the hopes of them actually finishing something different (and needed) that they clearly don't want to do?

Probably not.

Big server installs are deals with a lot of moving parts. You need to get approval from three different parts of government, negotiate bandwidth contracts with many ISPs, and get someone to supply you with water, power, fiber, etc. Any of these things not going right results in the project going away, so you can't announce anything until everything is done, or at least under contract to be done.

I transferred in August. Enjoy setting my money on fire, Riot. Makes me feel real good about giving you more. ~Uiru

really? oh then riot. Refund my transfer to LAN i made a few months ago. I shouldn't have had to pay 2k rp to transfer if no one else has to... Yeah I was getting around 70 in s1 as well. Michigan player here, how ya doing east coasters?

I was getting 90-120 before I transfered.

The thing is that the reason all those companies have east coast servers is because east coast NA has retarded levels of internet activity. The amount of internet activity on east coast from 10 pm-6 am(middle of the night) is higher than a whole day of west coast activity. If you ever look at an internet activity map it is pretty funny, on west coast you have maybe 1/3rd of California pretty brightly lit and the entire east coast is more lit up than the whole world put together 24 hours out of the day.

So really it is funny when people are like "well if you move the servers then it isn't fair to west coast." That logic only makes sense if 75% of the people online in NA weren't on the east coast. Even if you didn't go by league activity or internet activity, there simply are WAY more people living on the east coast. New York City has the population of like 9 west coast states put together.

Takes money to set up east coast servers. You won't stop playing because of lag. Therefore there is no reason to waste money. Business is business and this is america where the only thing that matters is how much green is in the bank account.

Better yet, migrate to a different MOBA.

I really wanna transfer my account of LAN since my ping goes down to like 55 but Im kinda scared... I had this account for years and have invested a lot of time and money in it... Plus I do not wanna give riot a cent anymore in case Ill need to transfer again...

I made a smurf there tho.. but lvling is hell =/

I wish riot would wake up and give us better servers already.. but at this point I know that will never happen...

I've observed 2 types of east coasters one who hopes riot gets shit done and make east coast server and the other who optimizes their own shit ;l

OP, I'd love to tell you that Riot will read this. Sadly, it's Christmas break for them. They won't start work again until March.

IIRC, part of the issue is that the U.S. network infrastructure is also quite dated, with no ISP's planning to expand or improve their service.

jade harley BARK12/25/2014, 1:39:23 PM1 votes

In all honesty, I would rather riot stop coming out with new content rapidly so they could focus on improving the servers. My ping spikes and goes out of control while my west coast friends are chilling with a stable, low ping. Most of the community in NA is East coast--where's our server?
