How do Placements work?

I won 6 out of 10 of placements. I got placed in silver 3. I was silver 1 last season.

The last game I played was with platinum and gold players.

Generally speaking, everyone gets moved down (90% of people) in MMR at the beginning of the season. Challenger is compressed, as is master, and to a lesser extent platinum and diamond (as players can’t be placed in master/challenger to begin).

After that, the system calculates an MMR for your placements. This is based on your MMR at the end of last season as well as to an extent your preseason MMR (but less so preseason). That MMR is what determines who you’re matched with for your placements. The difficulty of your placements as well as your record in them is what determines your starting rank.
