Calling out players who have been playing since beta/season 1/2/3/4

Elven Moon·4/1/2017, 7:12:33 AM·13 votes·3,086 views

Hello guys, I am just an old player who doesn't play league much anymore since this season started. Mainly because I feel this game has lost its touch now as Riot is making this game more esports friendly, than for people who prefer to play solo.

Anyways, I wanted to just start a dicussion with players who have been playing this game atleast since season 4. So tell me guys, what do you guys think about league now? Do you think league died in season 6, and now is just trying to be revived in season 7?

What do you guys think about league now? Do you think changes made now is good for league? Would love to know everyone's opinion :)

league didn't die

league changes every year and get new players everytime while losing old players i for my part lost all my old high elo friends that played in season 1/2,

we old players are no longer welcome in league, The game that used to take a brain in s2 with teamfights that lasted an entire minute where you had to choose your target wisely is no longer here. same for laning phase that lasted 20 min while now games can end at 17 min

if new players are fine with that then we can't do anything

believe me if i had friends playing dota2 i would have gone there forever and since a long time

Actively playing since early season 2 I feel like the game lost alot of its strategic and team oriented aspects and focuses to much on individual skill expression, reaction time, tactial decissions. For short - the Game has been mainstreamed. (which worked considering the playerbase, but its main features are no longer the same I signed up for.) While in the past everyone was limited to a small amount of possible actions that only a teamwide effort could turn into a real winning-condition nowadays everyone can easily adapt to any situation due to a huge Kit and Itemization. [APs having Carry DPS, ADs having Caster Burst, Tanks being DDs...]

Season 5 was the prime time to play Leauge in. That was the most perfect state the game has ever been in. (multiple viable Buildpaths, nearly every Champ viable [I played Urgot, Galio Top, Talon, Xerath Mid while maining Swain in Dia3], early mid and lategame where important. [And people could actually play the game and didn't freak out about playing Supp once in a while.........])

the damage to tank ratio has gotten to much in favor of damage.

League's design has steadily crept toward a game that almost develops as if it should not be played. The games are quickening more and more, certain champions are gaining more broad dominance, and the item system continues to corral superiority and inferiority where it needs to discourage both.

The item system is just a bit archaic for the champion ideas coming around now. With over 100 characters, there's bound to be a lot of discrepancies.

But they've also stopped dealing with toxicity like they used to. It's become so rampant that people are assuming problems are with the systems-- I guarantee autofill would be zero problem if people weren't consistently shitty in non-RGM queues. Even in those, people are moving further along being assholes.

They need to admit how shitty their playerbase is. Then, they need to chill for a year to tune their game mechanically instead of adding another Jhin or another item that gets completely misused in an meta-breaking build.

EDIT: I joined shortly after Zac was released, I believe. That's late S3?

I use to joke about the powercreep in the game under people like morello but it has actually become a serious problem under ghostcrawler. Every new champion/rework has to have 18 abilities, true damage, %hp damage, %damage reduction to handle all the free damage, shields up the ass and a mobility. The game is really shifting away from knowing the limits of your champion and your items in any situation because you'll have a 50% damage reduction shield, missing %hp healing and true damage anyways so why do you even need to know anything but how to press 90 buttons a second and masturbating to your mechanics, and it just makes for superficial gameplay.

The worst part is now not only do we have to deal with the forced cycling of in meta champions because riot needs to sell champions, but we now have to deal with a continuous cycle of powercreeping stats (more damage needs to be answered with more shields/%damage reduction which needs to be answered with more damage and so on, adcs can now ignore armor for 1k gold, soon they'll all be doing true damage, amumu is already getting that forced into his kit so he can compete)

I started around the time slightly before Leona's release I remember (there was a delay in her release and the boards were screaming bloody murder and lighting pitchforks :P). I took a break in S4-5 and came back at mid S6. The game sure has changed.

I think the game got some things right (graphics and more champions), but damage/mobility creep has been exponentially increased throughout each season without much care.

Nowadays, champions need to have tanky stat growth, zero resource cost, crazy amount of CC in each skill that can't be reduced by Tenacity, 3 escapes, and can combo chain all of them in 1 second that explodes another, with low cooldowns. What ever happened to counterplay?

Roles are beginning to blur. With all the introduction of crazy mechanics, champions are no longer categorized as one thing (e.g. subclasses -> stupid), making them even harder to balance.

I think the most tragic thing is the removal of the Institute of War and 'summoners'. Why are all these champions fighting anyways? The death of League Judgment was rather sad. Players back in the day were emotionally invested in the champions they mastered, but now, it's whoever is the most OP OP or feeds into a player's toxic mindset (e.g. certain champion player pool).

Though, I am excited about the Evelynn rework and hope Riot get it together because they royally messed up Karma and to this day, refuse to make amends for it.

Honestly, I think the game's just old. It doesn't matter what they do really, if you've been playing the game for years on end you're probably going to lose that sense of excitement that you had when you first started. That doesn't mean I agree with all Riots decisions by a long shot, but I realize that there's something here that keeps drawing new players.

Now for myself, I pretty much just play league these days just to play ARAM and turn my mind off. I can't remember the last time I started a game with someone on my friends list, and even more I can't remember the last time I added someone to my friends list. I occasionally browse the forums when I've got nothing else to do, but I liked the old forums a lot better.

Lastly, since we're talking about old shit... Remember the Megling genocide!! ... well, if there's actually anyone one here that actually knows what I'm talking about I'll be shocked, but I'm putting Riot on notice. We swore to never forget, and despite all this new blood running around, there are still people that remember..

I've been playing since leblancs release (and have been a Leblanc main from day1), I must admit I miss some older champs that have since been removed (here's to you, Karma) and Leblanc is basically gone now too. She was never supposed to be a kite mage and she was never supposed to have waveclear. She was supposed to have insane 100-0 potential not she just sits back and spams q to clear waves. Feels like crap- and riot won't even speak about it. I feel like when I started, riot would talk to champ mains when doing something drastic. Now it's "ahh, we know best-- oh, we ruined it. Whoops. Onto the next thing"

Sire Hippington4/1/2017, 3:02:24 PM3 votes

It slowly started dieing in the second half of S5, S6 then accelerated it to near death in no time for me. I always had hope riot might realise what went wrong especially in S6, and back when they finaly did some first step vs damagecreep atleast i really got my hopes high that they might revive lol for S8, but by now i actually have lost all hope. Prettymuch non of the issues from the past was fixed but instead just more bullshit is added. This game is at best a shallow shadow of it's former greatness -,-

Ps. I started playing in preseason 1

Been playing since ashe mid/heart of gold/madred's bloodrazor/HUEHUEHUEHUE brazilians.

5 years i've been playing this game and i see retards doing THE SAME EXACT MISTAKES guided by THE SAME BIASED THINKING PROCESS which is eventually a symptom of very low intelligence.

Monkeys have shown to be faster and smarter learners, a monkey touches something bright hot and gets burned, in one minute it learns to not touch that object again.

A retard playing league of legends (98% of the playerbase) might need to burn himself at least 2 arms up to the shoulder before he starts suspecting that what he's doing is detrimental for him. Meanwhile while he screams, screeches and squeals in agonizing pain he blames the jungler or the guy that is actually doing good, just because looking at him makes him feel bad about himself.

-edit- Oh and also back then there were much less casuals playing this game, now the average player is the spoiled 13-years old, the triggered redditor with a 125 Gb folder full of cuck porn, the normie that watched 1 episode of big bang theory (cancer to the authors and whoever ever liked it) and calls himself nerd wearing a pair of oversized glasses and the normie that never touched a videogame in his life and wanted to play league simply because it was the hip of the moment... But as we already knew, eternal september is eternal...

Rewt4/1/2017, 8:20:02 AM2 votes

(started S2) Ive been a Jungler for most of that time and so ive had a different look on how the game has progressed. Through the years League of legends went through some radical changes with the way the jungle worked and its interaction on the game. As the jungle changed it directly influenced the way the game played out. I call Seasons 5-6 the dark ages. It was a time that league did some serious experimentation with itemization and the Jungle itself leading to a painful tank meta and a really awkward jungle.

With Season 7 i have felt that its a return to form and can say that it is probably the most fun ive had with the game in a very long time.

i miss pre-rework soraka so much so much..... i also miss death cadence, martial cadence, and Fratmog's.... oh, how i miss atma's. i miss not requiring smite to jungle... i miss being able to take the jungler items to abuse on non junglers... i miss saited devourer on aatrox... i miss ap champions having reasonably priced items. i miss crystalline flask and mana pots. i miss when i could play mind games as tank lux or as pre-rework leblanc. i miss pre-rework aatrox... honestly if the game was reverted to just before soraka's rework hitting live i would be so much happier... 80% wr soraka jungle was so much more than 80% wr devourer aatrox. towers used to take awhile to fell and they did actual damage. twisted treeline used to be fun... riot keeps doing change for changes sake or to work around something that is too hard to balance... hell twisted treeline got extra towers because the towers used the same code as rift and riot didn't want to just give treeline it's own tower code. how many amazing items&skills have we lost because it was hard to balance. let's not forget the, we've found this champion can be played this way and we don't like that so we've nerfed it so it's not a thing instead of balancing the thing, or we've found this item can be used for this champ concept which is broken so we're nerfing the item ignoring all the champs which are dependent on it instead of balancing the champ which it is broken on. the removal of tank ekko was on like 5 different patch notes and only 12 champs got a measly 50 mana to make up for mana pot removal. riot's balancing methods have gotten worse.

So tell me guys, what do you guys think about league now?

juggernaut rework in s5 introduced a golden age of peace and prosperity

promptly ruined by riot buffing ADCs and mage scum in their reworks in s6

damage is climbing too high and now tanks and bruisers have to be compensated with their own damage buffed, on top of progressively stronger defensive steroids so they can exist late game. it's a vicious cycle

Arakadia4/1/2017, 11:43:47 PM2 votes

I feel like their trying to be too modern with some stuff and League has lost its charm due to this and a few other things.

TheSingularity4/2/2017, 5:06:13 AM2 votes

Started in season 3 and had the pleasure of experiencing kassadin, AP yi, invincible fiora and a the horror of pre change full AP gragas.

My memory of when certain things were added is a lil shaky but hopefully I'm a lil accurate.

I feel objectives come too easily when ahead and are too difficult to take when behind. In this game, if you can't win a team fight, objectives are all you have to fall back on. But champs are so fast, their damage so high that you barely have enough time to tickle a tower/shove the wave before someone shows up. If that doesn't happen, your entire team just got collapsed on and you're just lucky to not have been there.

In season 3/4, I had the most fun. The game was fresh, I found my love for jungling and utility tanks, and I could carry in my own way. Tank junglers saw love in a new spirit of the ancient golem/quill coat, dragons were just as valuable as towers and despite my picks not being at the top of the food chain, I still saw success and enjoyed every last minute of it. But the absolute best time was flutterfly kog maw and fiora duo bot, I built 5 blood thirsters and beserkers and my bud built 5 ravenous hydras thinking they would stack XD. Good times, because we'd suicide early for a double kill with my passive.

Season 5 was good, as my tanks reigned supreme for most of it and man.... it felt good being at the top of the food chain for once. I had heaps of flexibility to try different tanks in the jungle that usually didn't work and all of my IRL friends started playing. We all loved the game, we played daily as a 5 rocking our wombo combo of darius/naut/zed/sivir/karma. We were total plebs and completely up ourselves, but we felt like bronze league gods ruling the game through vision and objective control (man I loved those trinkets). Dragons died a matter of minutes after they spawned, and then mere seconds after every other consecutive spawn. Nothing could stand up to 3 pink trinkets, 2 upgraded yellow trinkets, SoTaG an a ruby sightstone surrounding baron. When we faced defeat, we were usually counter-picked blindly (we never had draft pick) but it was fun, we enjoyed losing because it was such a rush of intensity, just thinking if they stuff up just once, we could be back in it Given the sheer flexibility of the season, we did soooooooooo many troll compositions and they worked a surprisingly number of times. Twats bmed our yordel power, but then they let us hit completed full AP builds Amumu Kennen Rumble Ziggs Lulu. The wombo combo was absolutely glorious.

Season 6 is when everything went down hill for us all. The marksman update crushed the game for us. No tank I picked could deal with graves, and none of us were particularly fond of ADC (we usually had a kill lane bot). The snowball meta that has plagued the game decimated the very way we played league. Vision, objectives, stalling for power spikes. None of that mattered anymore. All of us got wrecked on a regular basis until we started locking in Mal/Sej/annie/retarded bot combo. It felt like shit being forced to play differently to such a degree. It wasn't that my playstyle changed, or that our plan was simply more difficult to pull off. It was that the way we love to play this game, was absolutely crushed in one patch. The game wasn't fun anymore, we didn't like the champions we had to pick when we played together (granted I tried to force my picks into ranked), but we still played because we didn't have an alternative FtP game that we could all agree on. The new mastery system and item changes injected an NaCl concentration I had never felt before. The favouritism towards marksman was so blatantly obvious that it hurt. The train wreck that was a year of marksman domination and sated devourer hell removed all but one IRL bud from this game. The fix was so obvious, revert and try again.

Now I'm the only one left, there were 19 of us. The 5 we kept daily were close, we were besties for lack of a better word. But they grew sick of the game. Sick of knowing how great the game could be and sick of being forced off their favourite champions and roles. I only keep playing because of the university group that provides more friends to play with, if I didn't have that this game'd gone already.

.

I doubt we will ever see anything as good as seasons 345 post yi/kass nerfs. I can only hope another f2p multiplayer game comes along that me and my buds agree on before this game becomes completely foreign to me.

So, I have been playing since season 1. I have seen this meta changed so much and how shit was so broken back in the day. But I gotta give it to Riot, they have kept my attention so long and the money I have invested in my account, proves that I love this game so much!(106 skins). I love the recent changes over the years. The events the missions to get emotes and other loot is genius! When I report a bug I see it fixed and posted in the patch notes. They do listen; just not to the baby whiners that come on here and cry about this nerf that nerf or WTF RIOT? Chill yall...betcha' somebody cried on here and they finally got the nerf they wanted.
THEY ARE A CORPORATION.
All they care about is money, power, respect. This corporation will do whatever the hell they want because they know you will play and buy their products. Because you're hooked like a junkie playing for 10 hours a day. Sometimes you stay up for 3 days playing and grinding. "Gotta get that emote from that mission" you say. You watch the pro's; you have streamers you watch. You want to get better. You want to climb outta hell. But you can't because you blame your teammates. Then you cry to the boards. Riot just keeps ignoring you and making that money off of new players because their girlfriend's ex-boyfriend plays and you wanna know what the hype is.
But overall I fucking love this game! thank you Riot for giving me something to do with my life. I am disabled and I can play this game and feel like I am part of a team. This season has been one helluva ride! Keep it coming Riot, I LOVE YOU! NoteFriend me if you have a Santa Baron icon like mine to join my Santa Baron Army

Fraggleroc4/1/2017, 8:07:42 AM1 votes

Been around since beta. I know Riot has to play it safe. But so much more can be done with the Summoner's Rift map and various systems in the game. League was inspired by Dota, and Dota by the earlier WC3 mods such as Aeons of Strife and Tides of Blood. And each of these mods brought unique systems to the game. I remember like Aeons of Strife or maybe some other moba mod- u can get ported into a 1v1 arena which the other players can view from a audience perspective. This makes it viable to bring duelists into a tower/nexus defense map. Look at the duelists in League now- Riven, Jax, Fiora... they're hardly being played- because nothing on the map can justify players to pick them. There is hardly any 1v1 scenario in professional play. The devs really need to draw more ideas from other games.

League's current state is like WoW in the realm of mmo. It's no surprise that WoW has been the target of ridicule- the reason that mmos innovation has come to a standstill. Because WoW came to a standstill.

This is League. It's at a standstill.
