Mobi Boots won't lose their bonus speed for attacking wards next patch

Deep Terror Nami··70 votes·6,565 views

OMG finally! This was the absolute worst. As a Support you'd get them for roaming and of course you clear wards along the way, but because you lose your speed you become easy to catch and kill. It's part of why I stopped using Mobi's and went Swiftness 95% of the time.

I really hope this makes it to live. (PBE changes are tentative)

That'll make it to live.

Does this also apply to the out-of-combat movement speed from the Wanderer mastery and Cloud Dragons?

Even if it doesn't, it's definitely a nice change.

I don't believe it does at present, we can probably still get that in for the same patch though, will find out. Being a bit more consistent about 'what puts you into combat' certainly has some value.

I thought attacking a ward doesn't count as being in combat for cloud drag. Unless I'm remembering things wrong, the visuals from cloud drag stay even while attacking a ward. It's actually why I wasn't surprised to see the mobi boots change now that they were buffed and are becoming more popular. I thought you guys were already making the 'what puts you into combat' consistency with that change.

In Patch 4.3, Mobi boots were reduced to the lower end of the price spectrum for tier 2 boots (200g price decrease) and had their in-combat movespeed changed from 45 to 25 in order to make them a better option for supports. Is there any chance that this change will one day be reverted?

No because if you compare item 3009 to item 3117 boots you see why they did it. Especially now that item 3009 are no longer 60 MS. It's a trade off and was removed for a reason.

Any chance we will ever see mobility boots get any sort of buff? Something to like the in combat movement speed, or only turning off for champion combat, or lowering the ramp time for non champion combat?

With its current state they feel so gross to use and even with champions that would like them, it feels like just defaulting to the better of the two defensive options is best most of the time.

I don't think I See many ADC players build Duskblade, outside of the occasional jhin player. D:

But, I do agree with you. Support needs more mobility love.

DarkRitual1 votes

Duskblade saw some use in the Koreans build of Miss Fortune a couple patches ago. Ghostblade, Cleaver, then Duskblade was the build then, but it was more lane matchup situational than Lucian's Ghostblade/Cleaver build was.

That's one champion out of 20? marksman champions. 1/20 is not many.

Well, riot renamed "ADC" as "Marksman", and that's what I was referring to.

Hey just another idea for a small QoL Mobi buff. Their interaction with item 3751 is really annoying, since it triggers every time you walk near an enemy minion. Could you make it so the Cinder burn doesn't count as being in combat if it's only applied to minions?

Please god no that is a complete nerf to the item as one of the items best uses was the fact it kept you in combat for the grasp of the undying. Taking that out nerfs cinder and you shouldn't be building cinder on support champions for the majority of the time

Would Talisman(+Point Runner) + Mobi boots be too mobile?

Honestly i wish theyd buff swifties back and remove mobi losing speed buff from jungle mobs.

I'm so happy this is happening. And I love how this is what support mains get excited about.

People still buy those on supports? I only buy them on roam-heavy assassins Evelynn Kindred and such. item 3009 will just be better unti it becomes something like its lost when you take damage or decrease the time it takes to activate

MisterShameless1 votes

Thresh and blitzcrank come into mind for mobi buyers.

Zarkkast3 votes

You must be late to the party. After the nerfs to Boots of Swiftness it's hardly worth it on anyone anymore.

You're better off buying Mercury Threads.

Ralimak1 votes

Unless they have a bunch of non-slow cc, Boots of Swiftness' slow resist is still more effective than the tenacity from Merc Treads.

Zarkkast3 votes

No, not really.

After the nerfs Swiftness only gives 55 movement speed, only 10 in comparison with Merc Treads. With the removal of alacrity this small difference is even less noticeable.

Also, it gives a reduction in effectiveness of 25% to slows, while Merc Treads gives 30% tenacity which makes the slow wear down faster. Why would you want that 90% slow to be a 70% slow when you can have it be completely gone 0.5 seconds earlier with Merc Treads?

So basically Boots of Swiftness is only a good buy if you're against someone who can consistently apply small slows, such as an Ashe/Braum bot lane.

Everything that its on PBE goes to live anyway. PBE is just for skin spotlights

afcourse its suppose to lose its passive when attacking wards. Its a furious ward battle

Yeah, attacking wards pretty much used to count as 'in combat'. I'm glad they fixed it!

Apollogy1 votes

And now swifties only give you 10 more movespeed than traditional boots. Like... what's the point?

Cloud drake is supposedly useless unless you have 3 stacks giving 45 movespeed out of combat. Why get swifties unless you need the slow resist passive? And merc tread's tenacity gives a nearly equal passive anyway.

A 25% less effective slow or a slow that lasts 30% less time? -_-

DREADN0UGHT1 votes

ehh. tbh, I still like Swifties over mercthreads in certain cases.

Sukishoo1 votes

I item 3009 on most supports these days.
