OP you made a post crying about Katarina, Irelia and Jinx with sole argument being their pick/win rate.

If 30% popularity 53% winrate 15% popularity 54% winrate and irelia don't scream red flags idk what does...

You're full of shit, lol.

imo, the combination of pick rate and win rate does mean something so indeed, pick rate alone does not mean anything

high pick rate not only shows popularity, which ay indicate uncanny degrees of "fun" found in her kit or said-champ is just way strong/reliable or OP of a pick high pick rate also means the sample size is large, meaning more accuracy!!!

back then, poppy had a winrate of 100% in the lcs of course even if it is 100%, win rate doesnt mean shit cuz she was only ever picked once.. ever high win rate, low pick rate.. the sample size is small and thus information is inaccurate

on the other hand if both win rate and pick rate are high, those are most certainly red flags

Her winrate is good ATM because people forgot about how to deal with a tank meta and forgot how awesome CC is. Once ADCs start rushing Bork and Last Whisper and tanks remember to position a little farther ahead of the carries because of her ult, they'll do fine.

GD is largely QQing because they don't like change and don't like to adapt.

Fashion Mage1 votes

How could anyone forget how broken good stunlock tanks are when Leona/Thresh/Blitz are picked bot lane most of the time?

Linna Excel2 votes

Because they aren't used to seeing Sej until recently. I mean you know it, but you haven't had to deal with her regularly since forever maybe and everyone knows the devs will swing the nerf bat on most champs a little too soon and too hard if they whine enough.

Does she need a tweak now? Maybe, maybe not.

However if you want to be a better player, you really need to learn how to deal with most trends and champ types and be ready for it. If Sej becomes popular, since she's a hard engage champ you need someone like a Janna or Nami who can disengage her and peel for the carries.

Arkna10 votes

She really isn't, tank junglers just prey on the inability of soloqueue teams to coordinate. Keeping a tank off of carries generally requires the effort of multiple players, whereas tanks can pressure your backline on their own.

every split push champion in the game?

every split push champion in the game?

Teamfights and splitpushing are in entirely different boats. You can stop a split push by simply placing a champion under a turret while the rest of a team teamfights. after all if a m8 is there than it's a 5v4. Stopping splitpush is incredibly easy if you know what you're doing. push up the lane before you push mid. Or if you see them splitting send someone with decent dmg and cc to protect the turret. In SoloQ especially teamfight coordination is another beast entirely. In general they all just throw their abilities at once. They don't save the stun for that kat ult. They don't try to peel for the adc. They don't bait out that thresh hook. It's pretty much smash buttons and whoever has the most OP spells/damage wins.

  • claims that stopping split pushing is easy

kay ;o ^^^^^ This is exactly what the split pusher wants you to do??? The point of split pushers is that they either A. have incredible dueling potential to annihilate the one person that comes to defend, or B. have absurd escape potential, so they can push up the lane and then split when anyone looks at them. Split pushing comps generally have sturdy high-CC champs that excel at defending 4v5 to stall, and can chase/poke at anyone who tries to recall or outright win a 4v4 when you foolishly send someone to stop feed Jax.

Stopping splitpush is easy but it requires a lot more coordination than many matched teams have, because the counter to it is to assess your situation and do whatever is most valuable. Options include:

  • Rotating on and crushing the splitpusher if they're of the A-type variety
  • Rotating lanes and taking a different turret, potentially catching out the 4-man and destroying them when they're not under the safety of their turret
  • Leaving entirely and doing some other objective. Dragon's up and enemy Trynd is in top without Teleport? Free Dragon.
  • Put enough pressure elsewhere to draw away the splitpusher, e.g. forced Baron fight, provided they're not already at your inhib turret
  • Get at least one pick (with a hook or something) and base race?
  • Surrendering because the splitpusher is a 20-5 Udyr

I'm sorry, but win rate does mean something, just not by itself (otherwise nobody would have thought to track win rate to begin with). In combination with pick and ban rate, as well as picks against and with certain champions, it actually supplies a very accurate picture of a champion's strengths, weaknesses, perceived strength, and perceived weaknesses. The win rates people see on 3rd party sites usually only have enough info to say "this champ wins this % of games they're played!" but if you dig deeper, you can find a TON of information. Sejuani is categorically overpowered. I don't think she is broken or oppressive (which a lot of people mistakenly use in synonymy with OP) but you are quite literally a lunatic (or horribly lacking in vocabulary) to not understand that she is OP.

The things that bring me to this conclusion are that her win rate has been consistently increasing every day since the last patch, he pick rate has also been increasing steadily since last patch, which shows she is not just a niche pick played by a few masters, but that she wins more even as roughly 2.5 times her normal players pick her now (meaning that her win rate is increasing even with poor/inexperienced players utilizing her), and her ban rate has also steadily increased. This means statistically speaking she is OP, people recognize she is OP, and people ban her because she is OP.

Regardless of whether it is because she is particularly suited to solo queue, doesn't have a meaningful weakness anymore, or is just strong against meta champions, she is still quite strong and you are foolish to deny it.

EDIT: I don't think a lot of non junglers understand this, but the biggest buff this patch wasn't the addition of cinderhulk, it was the way they changed Gromp buff. That thing deals around 300 damage to attackers come late game, which is roughly as strong as a thornmail against an ADC doing 1k crits every attack, and roughly twice what it did before this patch came out. That is the blanket buff that pushed her over the edge that everyone is forgetting about. Not that Cinderhulk boosted her late game scaling or that it gave her better early clear, but that Gromp buff is Hella strong on her.

she isn't OP.

She has been strong yes, but the small 5 to 8% player base that mains her have perfected her well enough to show for it.

And to cue on the fact that people say they realize how strong she is, let me clue you in on the next thing people haven't caught on yet.

Its to master how to properly counter-jungle, and any tank main will tell you that a jungler that knows how counter-jungle you and seek to find and kill you puts them in a world of hurt and constant pressure because you aren't given time to farm up for your items that your tank is reliant on.

Everyone and their mothers have forgot how to *properly *counter jungle thus the masses think the tanks are OP because they don't know how to deal with it.

Cinderhulk didn't make tank junglers OP, the fact people started playing tank junglers to try it out is what the started the forums trend.

junglerboy162 votes

Oh, I know how counterjungling hurts tanks (I've mained tank junglers since the middle of last season) but right now, Sejuani's early weakness where you could exploit her early game and counter jungle her is non existent. She clears fast and healthy, and the fact that she actually has a lot of damage early on means counterjungling is not nearly as effective against her as people keep claiming. It hurts her, yes, but less so than most other junglers, and less than it currently should. It isn't that strange that she is OP right now, she was strong before the buffs, and since this last patch was a blanket buff, there are always going to be champs that need more individual tuning to balance.

The other reason I say she is overpowered is that other tanks who got buffed last patch have not seen anywhere near the popularity or win rate spike that she has, and they are all counterjungleable too.

GundayMonday7 votes

Nah, the winrate means that players don't know how to play against her.

When teams start buying item 3102 that winrate is going to plummet.

The5lacker3 votes

Or take advantage of the fact that her early ganks aren't the best and she's vulnerable to counterjungling.

Don't forget how Katarina is the most OP thing ever conceived in video games. The amount of Bronze tears shed from a Katarina could fill the world's oceans.

NinjaFifer1 votes

Nah, Akali was in an even worse position a couple seasons back, right after they changed her passive to not require a very specific rune page to trigger. Once they opened her up to everyone, she just roflstomped all over Bronze, but no one understood why everyone was calling her OP since anyone Gold and up would roflstomp all over her.

Kat's interesting right now. Akali used to be hilarious.

Kairya1 votes

She always could do that.

BluePolarizer1 votes

but now ppl actually play her. Like I said I don't think she's OP but I do ban her occasionally if I'm playing a squishier jungler.

Ser Garland5 votes

If sejuani is in a good place, does that mean Jarvan can have his passive armour back? Maybe on his W?

Rinky Dinky4 votes

If a Pickrate is high (20%), and a winrate is high (55+%) the champion is PROBABLY overpowered.

We all knew Sejuani was gonna be nerfed after cinderhulk came out. I honestly thought amumu would as well.

The Nerfs are not even that bad. She will actually be recieving buffs to her early clears next patch, the W nerf will only apply to targets who have more than 2.5k hp due to the E buffs.

The ult nerf only applies if you miss your ult. If you can actually aim, that nerf doesn't even exist :X

Guy Fox Teemo1 votes

even a 3.0% pickrate is STILL enough games to accurately deteremin the winrate and see whether they are OP or not why? Because 67 million poeple play league, and 3.0% pick for azir means a few 35,000 games played, and thats a high ass number. Even Galio who is picked about .9% of games still has roughly 10,00 games played. This is over the course of the month but it STILL a huge ass number of games and enough to accurtely check the win rate. Lee Sin is played over 1.1 million times in 1 month AND STILL has about a 47% win rate, you would THINK that since EVERYONE says he's OP that obvioulsy MOST of his games would result in him winning? \

youngjake934 votes

Win rate actually means a lot... It isn't the whole picture, but how often a champ wins games is a very meaningful stat. You do have to look at why they are winning so much. For example, do they have a very low pick rate alongside only really being played as a counter-pick or by mains? Is there available counterplay that isn't commonly utilized? Are they very new to the meta and the meta hasn't caught up to their introduction? Etc

As far as I can tell, Sejuani's win rate is actually rising alongside her pick rate and time spent as a meta pick. She doesn't really have obvious counter-play besides don't stand next to her. She is also easily picked into any team comp/match up as far as I can tell except against certain tank-busters or kite-heavy match-ups(Vayne).

If her win rate stays this high(which it probably will without nerfs) after the meta has had time to adapt to it and her pick rate goes up at the same time, then yes it actually does mean something.

Just nerf her W damage by a really small amount and boom, she will still be a really viable pick but not too good.

Just nerf her W damage by a really small amount and boom, she will still be a really viable pick but not too good.

I considered maining her a month ago and have more games on her in the last 2 weeks than I do on any other champion. The funny thing is that the jungle changes were relatively minor as far as I was concerned. It's true that I can now finish my first red buff and usually have enough health to consider chasing down the rift scuttler or even to peek in a lane just to remind the enemy laner to be cautious, but ganks pre-6 are still nothing to write home about.

The other part didn't massively change either. Sej was always one of the better tanks if you built her as full tank. But that was only if you built her full tank and didn't try to get any damage items. You'd end up with 200+ armor and MR and almost 4000 health, but your auto attack damage was a joke and your main damage was DOT and required that the enemy stand near you for several seconds.

Those haven't changed. You do have all the CC, but its avoidable for any team paying attention. The Q gap close isn't long range, the E only works if you've already done damage and the ult has a fairly long cooldown. Honestly using Amumu's Q to gap close and following up with his ult is far better CC, and he's got his own DOT and inate tankiness.

Sadly, I do fear a nerf will be coming. Too many people are now complaining that Sejuani is too powerful even though she's not a damage dealer. She can tie up a team's damage dealers, but the impression I'm getting from people's posts is that somehow Sejuani's in their games are going 20/1. fi that's happening I have to ask what they were doing. The trick with any tank is to avoid the tank and concentrate on the enemy damage dealers. A tank that doesn't have an ADC or other burst damage caster following them up is just an annoying speed bump that can be taken care of at leisure.

NinjaFifer2 votes

{quoted} A tank that doesn't have an ADC or other burst damage caster following them up is just an annoying speed bump that can be taken care of at leisure.

Lol, Singed. If you don't kill him decently quick, that F'ing poison will melt your whole team.

Gooberp2 votes

Um, no, that's how he tanks, just like DrMundo Garen Shyvana Sion Udyr etc. These are "damage tanks," often crossing over with "bruisers," who draw aggro by being threatening presences despite having relatively little CC. (in comparison to other tanks) They are all easy to kite, and when separated from their team melt like butter and are at worst nuisances. The only way they have to 'tank' is by being sturdy enough to duel a squishy and putting out enough steady DPS that, while it's nothing compared to a dedicated carry, you MUST spend CC and peel on them or lose your backline. You'll notice that most of this category have high movement speed to dampen the effects of slows, further encouraging you to spend hard CC on them instead of Kat.

The comment is still correct: any of these bruiser/tank hybrids that don't have a real carry nearby to follow up are pathetic. (unless engorged on the blood of your Teemo)

NinjaFifer2 votes

Looks like I missed the sentence prior to what is quoted, about how "the trick to any tank is to avoid the tank and concentrate on the enemy damage dealers." My bad. When the tank is also a damage dealer, what do you do?

Gooberp2 votes

You do exactly what the champ is designed to make you do. Expend CC to peel them if you want to get at their backline, keeping in mind that this leaves you with less hard CC for the carries themselves. Just because it's what it's designed to do doesn't mean it's not what you do anyway, you just have to be AWARE of that and how it impacts fights. DPS tanks and CC tanks have the same endgame in mind: "give our carries more time to deal damage," whether the way they do so is by counter-CCing so that both teams lose damage uptime, or by pulling CC away from their carries to increase their damage uptime.

Another alternative is to, like mentioned, pull them away and easily sweep them up; you'll see that with the sole exception of Shyvana('s ult) none of the champions I listed have dashes to either gapclose or escape. If they extend too far they are completely screwed.

jade harley BARK2 votes

Aaaaand she's getting a two nerfs in the pbe. A slow decrease on her ult and a damage decrease on her w.

IcyPepper1 votes

I can completely understand the second, but I don't understand the nerf to her ult. The HP increase of cinderhulk effects only one of her spells, so why are they gutting (90% to 30% is pretty significant) her main teamfighting utility?

Cinderhulk increased her damage. So just nerf the damage. O_O

junglerboy165 votes

The ult nerf is basically to reduce the number of awful first time Sejuani players who don't get punished for not being able to land her skill shot that are able to still win with her. The W nerf and E buff are just a re-jiggering of her powerbudget to tone back her early game clear (giving back her intended early weakness) without affecting her late game damage at all.

IcyPepper1 votes

Still, just seems a bit off to me. Like, 30%? I dunno, I feel like that's a bit much. 60% I could handle, hell even 50%, but 30% seems a bit underwhelming for an ultimate. Especially since balance right now feels like the League of Acrobatics.

I just don't know. It doesn't feel right to me, but maybe I'm wrong.

junglerboy164 votes

That is only for if it whiffs though, it still stuns just as hard if you hit them with it.

GundayMonday6 votes

That's like saying "How would you rate this hammer compared to this pickaxe?".

Both are useful in different situations and have kits that fill different roles.

Completely depends on context, team comp, and what your game strategy is.

BluePolarizer1 votes

Sejuani and Skarner are totally different. Skarner is more of a heavy fighter like Renekton or Shyvana, rather than a tank. He builds damage, while Sejuani usually is full tank. No one is scared of full tank Skarner while people are terrified of Triforce skarner.
