What if she was a ranged mage that did physical damage? I mean if shes throwing rocks it wouldnt make sense for her to do magic damage. Rocks are hard. Plus it might make her like a counterpart to yasuo. That would be sick!

AD champions are already strong and abundant, and she would have a really hard time buying the stats she needs (AP + armor pen), meaning that basically any other AD caster would do better. Most other stats would be wasted: crit, attack speed, lifesteal.
Azir is probably the closest counterpart, a weird marksman whose attacks scale with AP instead of AD, but that works because AP/AS are still available on items without any wasted stats (he can use CDR, mana, MP5, and health too).

I actually think she will be a support. The last one was Kench, so it's possible. Plus, if you go by what she did in her story, she sounds very support-ish. She popped a soldier off the ground and into the air by making a rock launch him up, she slowed and impeded the movements of soldiers by making rock spikes erupt from the ground to keep them at bay, and then finally she encased the building in a stone prison. That sounds like a support build to me, if we go by these shows of her power as reflective of her kit design.

I believe Tahm was originally designed to be a top laner, if im not mistaken. Also we just got a taric rework so 2 supports in a row would be highly unlikely, but here's hoping!

Taric isn't actually in the lineup for new champ releases though, since he was a relaunch. They're separate pipelines, according to Riot. Which means that the last support was Kench, who was like 5 champions ago. With Taliyah here, they're restarting the chain since there's been one of each other role released since Kench. And fun fact, not only was Kench originally a top laner, he was originally Mega Gnar.
Edit: PLUS we just got a new mid lane mage with Aurelion Sol. Rarely does Riot give us back to back champs in the same role.

People complaining about not having pen with the AP-Does-Physical issue, either add a pen passive (Kayle?) or just leave it. AP Fortune doesn't need pen to do shitloads of damage, neither does AD. Just give her high scalings but basically remove the ability for her to penetrate and she's pretty balanced. If you don't build against her, you're fucked, but if you do, she's not TOTALLY useless but is manageable.
