Neeko is exactly why we need voice comms.

I think her passive is cool as hell.

I don't think anybody disputes that.

The potential tricks and plays you can make with it are exciting, without a doubt, but there is one thing that puts a damper on things...

...you can't make plays with this spell without coordination.

Just look at the teaser. Ezreal dips in the bush, Neeko disguises and runs out of the bush while Ez hides inside. It's a great play, and one that displays a lot of coordination between the two players.

Now, imagine that happening in solo queue, communicated solely through pings.

You can't, can you?

We don't have a "Hide here!" ping. Any kind of play involving this passive more complicated than "Three Hec's running at Nami at the same time" would be damn near impossible to communicate without spending several seconds typing in chat.

I'm looking forward to watching pros play this champion (not so much in lane; Q/E waveclear sounds boring) and seeing how they use the passive, but I dread seeing her in solo queue because we won't be able to use her passive properly unless everybody in the lobby jumps into a voice call.

Please, Riot.

Give us the option to play with "Party Chat" as on live, but also make "Game Chat" an option.

I don't know, I think it comes down to how the players are thinking about the game. The Ezreal one can be done just with "Assist Me" pings in the bush, and if he's thinking about it he'll stop inside. The Hecarim one works because it doesn't require any feedback at all, Neeko just follows Hecarim and does her own thing.

Slightly related story:

I remember one game years ago where an ally Shaco used his ult, and when he got low health the ally Kayle used her ult on him. The enemy either had enough life steal or stunned the immortal Shaco and kept wailing on him as he waited out the invulnerability. As soon as the Kayle ult died, the Shaco was killed... dealing AoE damage. He'd been attacking the clone the entire time, but because of the Kayle ult he thought it was the real one. That deception didn't need coordination.

######I believe the Kayle actually messed up and and ulted the Clone on accident, but the Shaco player sold it by not using other spells.

I do agree she is going to be super hard to pull off in soloQ and I'm super curious to see how people, especially challengers without voice comms will be playing her. I'm all for voice comms but I'm also worried about the toxicity in it as well.

I think a bigger use for it will be to bait out cooldowns and force the enemy to retreat, rather than trying to bait them into a trap. If you make it seem like your jungler is running right at them, they will likely pop a defensive cooldown to retreat or dump CC on the illusion, but then you are there ready to engage now that their cooldown is gone.

The situations where you're lurking in a bush ready to help redirect an enemy away from your ally will be few and far between. More often, you'll be using it selfishly to protect yourself (like LeBlanc's passive) or to trick the enemy into using valuable cooldowns.

Maybe Neeko isn't meant for solo queue. And maybe even if voice chat was implemented, some people would not opt for it in solo queue.

I for one would rather not have a phone call with four randos who are likely to insult me over playing a fucking videogame!

.. Then don't connect to the call? Would it hurt you if who would like to do it had the option?

Because team voice workes so fine with strangers (csgo).

Usually, yeah it does.

Speaking as somebody with 1.2k hours in Dota (a very toxic game with voice comms), people tend to be a lot less toxic over mic.

Sure there are still assholes who use mic, but it's honestly not all that common and even when it does happen, that's what the mute button is for.

Riot withholding Voice Chat because of toxicity is just as lame as HOTS withholding /all chat for the same reason.
