My biggest regret was defending the client/riot when it first came out. I thought they'd fix most of these issues, but they've left it to rot and more issues seem to keep coming up. It looks so bad on them to have such a terrible client.

There is times where I can't click the Play button. Or I click my loot and my client screen just goes blank. Same with the store. Dodging a game because the champion I want to click turns grey. Or the delays when you click things. It's god awful. There is many others I'm forgetting right now as well.

idk if i should laugh or not because im kinda happy that your kind accepts their mistake, but its also nice to see that me, getting hated on for being "correct" years before is now correct.

I try to accept my mistakes so I can learn from them. I don't get why so many people have such pride that they have to make it seem like they are always right to others at any cost. In the future I won't go out of my way to defend Riot when it comes to stuff like this - lesson learned. :)

sir you deserve my respect! lets hope reddit manages to get a similar point of view. because riot seems to only listen to reddit.

Really wish they never changed from the AIR client which was much smoother and functional.

Uplay and Origin would like a word with you, those clients are way worse

In my experience they don't crash as much or glitch out as much as league's... but they do suck nonetheless

My uplay crashed more times in the past week alone than I think my league client has done since s5.

Not a gameplay post, this is more of a client discussion post.

That said, try running the client as administrator. I tried getting Riot support to help me out with bug splat problems and that seemed to solve all my issues.

huntervicious1 votes

I did that and I still have issues sometimes. Errors when I tried to queue up, change skin or select a champion. I already probably got fucked by leavebuster at least five times last season

Try a complete uninstall/reinstall. I'd suggest using an uninstaller like Revo to make sure you get everything, I think they have a free trial available.

This post is not about bug splat -_- its about the laggy client

Which is a client issue, not a gameplay issue.

This game doesn't even have voice chat when they literally heavily focused their game on team play since season 5. Riot is a complete failure of a company to their past self. Can't expect a working client when you can't even play the team game they put all their resources in.

Are you fucking kidding me? You seriously call that shitty system voice chat????? You are playing a team game which requires communication from all 5 players. When you're playing solo que or duo que the voice chat only works for your duo. That shit is a joke of voice chat.

Voice chat works for all the members in your Party (be it 2 or 5). And that's just it - was meant to be used with people you trust. LoL community is quite famous for being toxic - so I'd take it - they were trying to avoid situations like this...

That would be the usual while playing with randoms. You have all kind of means of communication if you really care about that. There's also All Pick, Random Draft and Flex 5 vs 5 - for 5 vs 5 games with friends and voice chat.

And because it's only for Party members it's useless, since nowadays if you play something with your friends you're usually using things like Discord or TeamSpeak

These are hand-picked clips which means shit. I can go on any game with voice chat (csgo 4 example) and take clips where we had great and positive communication and say "this would be the usual while playing with randoms".

I am entirely convinced that Riot does not have the means necessary to fix their client and they don't have any interest in acquiring them. The League client is a flat out embarrassment and is highly criticized by every platform that discusses the game. We know it sucks, they know it sucks, people who don't play the game know it sucks. They don't care.

the real question i want an answer to is: how does a billion $ company not manage to hire 1 person that fixes this piece of shit client? its not like this is a problem that just occured, no since the alpha of this game, the client was a buggy pile of shit. this is a huge ass company yet they cant manage to hire one person to fix the client.

and then years later they released the "new client" which is even more of a mess. and they never fixed anything about it. clearly showing they DONT KNOW how to do it and they DONT WANT to know it either.

That's an easy one... that's becasue LoL is an ongoing project. There's no "Final Build (as it's the case with most Single player games)". They release around 2 patches every month (some bigger than others) - and with each patch - they try to fix some bugs, add new content or change some of the old stuff. Unfortunately, changes can also brake stuff.

They do test the patches on PBE (Public Beta Environment) - before release, but sometimes they miss some bugs or they can't foresee how some of those changes will affect the game. Also, LoL is composed of multiple coding/programing languages - so obviously - there's multiple people working on the client. Doesn't matter how skilled - one person couldn't manage a project of this size. You can check their tech blog - if you're interested in how LoL works (under the hood). Like...

https://technology.riotgames.com/news/architecture-league-client-update

https://technology.riotgames.com/news/under-hood-league-client%E2%80%99s-hextech-ui

They're still hiring:

https://www.riotgames.com/en/work-with-us/jobs#

Tho, current LoL client is filled with to much bloatware (compared to the old). So obviously, mo matter who they hire - it will never run like the old client and is prone to more issues.

the client and the actual game (ingame stuff) are 2 seperate things. the patches that come every ~ 2 weeks dont change the client, but the ingame stuff.

the pbe is a dead server where there is only ranked, no normal Q for over 1 year now and over 100 threads reporting the same bug that still gets shipped to the liveserver.

and im sure majority of people will agree with me on this statement: we (as players) dont see any change at the client AT ALL

Wrong, they're interconnected. If they were separated - you should be able to start/join a game without the client. Now, it's true that once the game started - you can play the game without the client (even close it) - but you still need the client to start again so you can cast a vote and see the end-game results. Or play another game.

Maybe you don't see what you want to see (a new theme for the client maybe or other similar changes which affect the GUI / tho, that too was changed a bit for Season 9), but the client is subjected to constant changes. The commercial content and the featured content - gets changed quite often - and you need a client update for that as well. Same goes for new missions and new game modes (like URF or the seasonal stuff). If you need more proof - go to the folder where you installed the game (the default is: C:\Riot Games\League of Legends) - do a search for... .exe - and you should find the following excutables:

LeagueClientUxRender.exe LeagueClientUx.exe LeagueClient.exe League of Legends.exe

Now right click on all executable and check the details.

Thats because Riro devs are bunch of useless overpaid piece of uncompetent garbage who cannot do anything properly. From game balance to this client. Peace

This patch I've had the same problem happen 3 times.

Fun fact: The new client was rushed out because of Runes Reforged. RR was then delayed a season and we got this unfinished mess pushed on us. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

All these "just run it as an administrator" or "just reinstall the client"

  1. Running it as an administrator can cause other problems like not being able to use discord push to talk since the client is setting itself above all backrgound applications
  2. I shouldnt have to spend time reinstalling the client because a million dollar company cant spend a week fixing it for their customers.

1)tries to look fancy with a couple glows and fades 2)becomes more laggy than the latest 3d game in ultra settings epic fail

nobody cares for a fancy gui, start fixing the game instead of trying to sugar-coat it

The black boxes that just appear while using the client is just ridiculous. This is the only game I've played where parts of screen turn black in the client as you move the mouse around. I don't have any connection issues, my ping is low and I have a mid to high end rig. I can run brand new titles on high settings with no lag or client issues but this client has black boxes covering my screen ever since they released the new client. I've reported this to them multiple times and Riot has yet to fix it.

It's insane that for a such a high profile game, they have the worst client I have ever seen. I'm not the type of guy to just say shit either, Riot needs to understand that their client really is god awful and create a new one from scratch.

yeah it sucks, it;s 2019 and it buggs out often

Handy Sandy 1 votes

there's another problem, sometimes in custom games the client lags in champion select extremely hard for literally no reason, and it happens to multiple people at once. It gets so laggy that you can barely select your champion, much less runes and summoner spells.

I also used to say this, then I used the dota client to play auto chess, that things 100 times worse than league.

i agree with u man..my friend just got the 20 min leaverbuster because he couldn't enter the loading screen due to some error that only rito knows about..

Its more like server problem, or your internet problem I have checked packet flow with wireshark many times and if there are some packet losses then you have black screen when accessing things like shop/hextech. If you have good, stable internet then there is no problem 9 out of 10 times.

Choosing to make it in Javascript is pretty questionable. It's such a shitty language if you want reliability and a good foundation. There are a lot of frameworks but they can't fix everything. With that said, it was still possible to have a good client but this isn't even an improvement at this point (incredibly buggy and laggy if not restarted after a few hours). Aesthetically it's also far worse than the original one imo.

Not true. Computer Science student here. What language you use for scripting your program behaviorally doesn't really affect performance. That's just for functional stuff, at lower levels, it's not js.

Performance of the language isn't the issue. Javascript is a terrible language (not even internally consistent) for writing safe and maintainable code. That create issues both in performance and reliability. It's actually a very fast language nowadays but as much as frameworks try to fix its crusty foundation born out of a few weeks of hacking, its fundamental flaws do eventually get exposed.

Javascript's popularity is a result of first mover advantage making it ubiquitous as well as encouraging a tremendous amount of tooling. It doesn't hurt that you can throw something together quickly either. Quality of the language is not why it's ubiquitous and the many design flaws in it can't be fixed because of backwards compatibility being so important.

It literally doesn't run on javascript. The actual functional scripting being in javascript isn't a noticeable issue.
