Katarina. Is she good?

So recently I've been looking at KatarinaKatarina . She was pretty easy for me to pick up. I actually got 20-something kills in my 2nd match playing her. I hear that she gets shut down very easily by hard crowd control, but considering I was playing in normals, my opponents probably had no idea how to deal with her. My friend who was duoing with me said I should pick her up and play her because of how well I did.

So I have a few questions about her.

  1. If she is easily shut down by crowd control, and a lot of champs have this, why she still banned a lot, even in higher elos? (I don't know if lolking.com is a reliable source for this information)
  2. Is it possible to play well even when there is a lot of CC on the enemy team?
  3. Is she useful in teamfights?
  4. If I decide to get her, what's the best skin? (lol)
  5. If she is good, why is she not used by pros? (Pros using her won't affect my decision, I'm just curious as to why I haven't seen her. Maybe I just need to watch more pro plays.)

Thanks in advance for feedback!

Crowd control shuts anyone down tbh. Except Olaf. But she's still banned because she can output a ridiculous amount of damage that's almost entirely AOE damage. Also she has super high mobility which in the right hands can be quite oppressive.

When the enemy team has a lot of CC, it makes teamfighting a lot more difficult for you. Instead of just blindly going in you'll have to carefully pick your windows. Either deleting a squishy who strays away from his team or waiting to burst the last bit of a tank for resets. Teamfighting with Kat is very difficult when the opponents are mildly coordinated.

Faker plays Kat a lot in LCK and it's regularly banned against SKT because of it, look up some Vods of that! She's strong, but has a hard time laning against some champions, which makes her not always a solid pick, especially in pro play. Kat really wants to have some tanks or hard CC on her team to open up windows for her to DPS.

Her project skin is cool af, but I use the Warring Kingdoms skin. Mostly because I got it for free (skin shard) and it's all I have :P.

Basic Kat combo to delete a squishy is to dash onto them (E), Auto Atk, W, then Ult, then once you've collected your W dagger, E onto them again and Q+Auto+Gunblade/whatever then walk onto your dagger and E onto them a 3rd time if they aren't dead already. The initial E-AA-W-Ult should take a split second.

Also, Your level 2 powerspike is immense, and a lot of people disrespect it. Hit lvl 2, Q at some minions and if they walk near your dagger feel free to E onto it, procing your passive, auto them then E onto them again with another auto. Large chunk and the mobility from all your shunpo's is likely to dodge skillshots as well. High skill ceiling

  1. If she gets 1kill/early lead you practically cant come back, that's why shes banned. But if you also die a lot in lane it is really hard to comeback unless someone feeds you a kill or 2. 2 It is, but you need an actual frontline and initiator because you cant do that yourself, because if you initiate then you will be cc chained to death.(when to go in yourself is in your best judgement) 3 She devastates teamfights if you play well.
  2. I don't have any kat skins...
  3. shs seen some pro games, but its just that Syndra Leblanc Orianna offer something more appealing than kats damage.

As does most assassins, hard CC does fuck her pretty hard, BUT

Good katarinas will wait until major cc is blown before going in and she also has the necessary tools to dodge a lot of CC and stuff with her shunpo

She is incredible in teamfights because of her ult, once she gets her resets its hard to stop her if she doesn't get killed immediately

She has been picked in the pro scene occasionally, but it's for the same reason that yasuo isn't played in being that they know how to work against her and shut her down and make her useless. She snowballs hard as fuck though

Personally project is my favorite skin with kitty cat being a close second

Braindead broken once you understand how to position daggers. Most of the things that would normally shut an assassin down can be ingored thanks again to daggers.

It is indeed possible to play even if the everyone on the enemy team has CC, it's all a matter of timing your engages for when the key ones are gone(anything point and click) or simply getting the jump on them.

Of course, huge amounts of AoE damage make her a teamfight monster when played properly. It's even easier since her rework because you're not as reliant on ult anymore.

I'd recommend Warring Kingdoms, it's my favourite Kat skin by far. However, I will suggest you check out the skins at SkinSpotlights on Youtube. You can see which ones more meet your fancy.

She's not really played by pros because all she really brings is damage, while you could argue this for Vlad as well since he's a very highly contested pick in the LCS who also brings nothing but damage, Kat simply lacks the survivability that Vlad brings to the table. This makes her much easier to shut down in such a coordinated environment.

One part of me is like," Ew, I don't like playing braindead characters." Another part of me is like," WE FINNA MAKE SOME MLG KAT PLAYZ BOIZZZZZ" I am conflicted.

Kat is by no means braindead. If you play her, I am sure you will agree.

Hello sire. I know this is really late, but I would love to shed some light.

  1. Katarina is only shut down by player ability or point and click CC. You can dodge it all with good positioning and such, but you cant dodge a TF w.
  2. Hell yes. Katarina is skill based, not enemy team based.
  3. There is a very clear difference between anew kat and a master. A new kat has one method and gets mad if it don't work. A master can do miracles. She is so influential in team fights and in picks.
  4. I personally don't have one. I'm a true og IG.
  5. She isn't used by pros because she relies so much on positioning. Pros don't make many positioning mistakes so she isn't too good. Also there is the fact she takes way too long to master and that pros play in a way that disables her completely. You can take Kata all the way to challenger because there is still that lack of TOTAL coherency until we reach esports.
