In loading screen, if one player never connects, RESTART THE QUEUE

BeatzBoyFTW··64 votes·10,301 views

It's just too painful to watch one of my member not connecting to the game for some reason, and I don't really like to put my hopes up waiting for him to reconnect during the 1:30 minutes. and who knows? Occasionally, yes, at some point he will reconnect back into game during the 1:30 minute, but also realized that his wifi is pure crap and just declines every 30 seconds, which also responds to why he never connected during loading time. So here's a very simple fix:

During loading screen, where everyone has to reach 100% to connect to game, but if there's one person who stays "Not Connected" til the point the game has to start, restart the queue again. That's it, that's all I ask. But of course, the guy who never connected will not receive punishment from Leaverbuster. Unless if he did get into loading screen with at least 1% in his waiting time & then never connects into game til the queue rrestarts, only then he will receive punishment from Leaverbuster.

Actually, I wouldn't mind this so much. I hate seeing that it'll be a 4v5, even if I'm on the 5. It scews the whole game.

I do think that a penalty should go along with it, just not a leaver-buster related one. How about a single game of low priority queue?

why would they receive a penalty for something that most likely wasn't even their fault?

They still pretty heavily inconvenienced 9 other players, and without a penalty this idea is abusable in ranked. There needs to be something, even if it isn't their fault, to incentivise them to fix it. 1 game of low priority gives them a good discouragement to abuse, but otherwise is only 1 game.

so you want to punish them for something that's out of there control and from something that if the game would have continued normally they would have just made it back before the 1:30 mark? sorry but ANY penalty is bad if it's something out of their control and would have been fine if they had made it back into the game normally. That's like giving people the middle finger just because their internet crapped on them for a little while or something stupid like a client crash happpened

It's not really a huge punishment, it just makes the next game take longer, which when you consider that, with your internet connection being so terrible, you caused to the 9 other players.

Seems fair, and discourages abuse.

"Oh, we got outpicked hard this match. How about right before the loading screen opens, I just sorta... pull the plug. Oh, there we go. Nailed it."

If your internet is crap and you're trying to play League, a Team Based game, with SKILL SHOTS, and other things that sometimes require twitch like reflexes, yes. You're basically a liability to your team, and I would be upset that I got matched with someone like that. They've essentially nerfed themselves and now I have to suffer over their net.

I don't have the best net ever, but even my net runs League Smoothly, and it's cheap as all hell. So I would expect the same level of stability from others.

On a side note, if the servers are being shitty, then that's an entirely different issue. The servers should, ideally, have a system in play where it detects where the problem was to fix it. I don't think detecting someone as not connecting because they have 0 net, should be that hard.

except that a lot of times the servers are useless. I had times where my client just bugsplats out of nowhere or gives me a firewall error out of nowhere and then what? net isn't always the issue, sometimes your pc can just crash out of nowhere or you are playing in full screen and are too focused on the game or go get something to drink/take a piss before the game starts and then windows decides it's a good time to update and you can't catch the "postpone" thing in time what are people in those type of scenarios supposed to do? say "oh well no biggie i'm being punished for stupid reasons that wouldn't have been an issue if the game just continued time to move on"? very few people are going to see it as that and i can assure you it's just going to create a hell of a lot of trouble to Riot for those very few people who actually not connect for malicious acts.

You are also forgetting that not all players have the same ping and that they can take longer to react to skillshots because of said ping so what? are you going to call the a liability just because they aren't playing with less than 30 ping?

Then people should have tested their wifi strength in custom games instead of rushing to rank games right away. Even I still do this, even if its for normal games.

I always play a normal before ranked for this reason and to warm up. Occasionally I'll have problems that pop up during a game, only recently. After the game ends I'll restart the client and maybe my computer then jump in a custom to test before going back in a game with people.

you say this like playing a test game does anything. I had days where i literally play 3~5 games in a row and nothing happens then play the next game? random crash out of nowhere... for no reason or firewall error, once again for no reason. There are people who test their pings in bot games and it's pretty stable and good but then go and play a ranked game? sudden ping spikes even though they just tested their ping

Because we can "fix" our ISP throttling our internet. Or how would one fix that problem that the client needs 5 different processes to run, compared to back in the day of only 2.

Pryotra1 votes

It's one game that only decreases the speed in which you find a match. That's it, that the next match will take longer to find. This punishes only those that are trying to abuse it in ranked to get out of teams without any penalty by pulling the plug on their internet connection.

rampaging poet1 votes

Because there's absolutely no way to tell whether or not is was their fault or not, and Riot wants to err on the side of punishing leavers. "My network card died suddenly" and "I suddenly yanked my Internet cable out of the wall" are pretty much indistinguishable to Riot's servers. If disconnecting while failing to load isn't punishable, then people that want to queue dodge will just wait until the game starts loading to disconnect.

Migrañaboy5 votes

This can be exploitable:

Choose champ. Before loading screen, make sure to disconnect from internet. Use second connection (let's say phone) and use a lolnexus-like service to see if this team will lead you to victory. You have a 20 seconds window to judge and act accordingly.

Suddenly a good number of dodging. Unless they change their policy with information requested by APIs.

Fredart2 votes

Or just make it so only the first person that leaves gets a penalty and just let the other 9 leave at no cost since allegedly it ruins the match for the other 9 players.

GG bad team comp ima go turn off the wifi

Ardond1 votes

because everyone is going to do that. a few people might but I think most people will be to lazy.

The Queen Viper2 votes

Too abusable ... would essentially be a free dodge once you ctrl+alt+del -> end process during the LoL logo right after the champ select, just before transitioning into the loading screen.

Honestly while the idea sounds cool, I know so many people that would straight up be the kind of person that would see comps they want/don't want to play against and just pull their net so that they never connect. The only way this system would work is if the person that didn't connect got a punishment, but even then it's harsh since I myself have had many instances where I was locked out of a game for 2-5 minutes because firewall/client rebooting

I understand that it's hard to have someone never connect, but law of statistics shows that the chance of it happening to the enemy team is 5/9 to your 4/9, that and the odds of someone never connecting isn't over common, even in Australia where our net is a joke.

Windfallen1 votes

My first game today we had a nasus not connect. Riven got a free lane.

Though, in 20 minutes as a 4v5. We had a dragon and 5 kills more than them. They had one more tower than us.

Nasus came back around the 20 min mark and had 420 stacks by the end of the game. Really unfortunate since we curb stomped this enemy team for about half an hour.

So sad 'cuz it was an awesome team with a good attitude. No one raged at nasus when he finally made it back.

Yeah not a bad idea, especially in ranked games

Actually, this has happened to me once. After waiting a while with everyone at 100% (iirc), my ping slowly went up to 999, then down to 0, and then it gave me the "a member of your team has not selected a champion" error message.

Hellioning1 votes

I wouldn't mind this; difficult to abuse in comparison to the other system that tends to be asked for, and having it not be a 5v5 at the start isn't really fair.

3 days ago I was playing a normal with 2 of my friends, less than 10mins in, our jungler and mid dc'd. My friend that was on the support morg (thx god it's an ap support) went mid. ADC stayed bot 1v2 We lost 2 dragons ofc, but since enemy jungler never touched top and decided to "free farm" both jungles, I got to keep my advantage and free farm enemy bronze top laner. GG, 40mins in we got the enemy nexus. 3v5.

P.S: Telling this story is not related to the message at all and is just to satisfy my e-peen

But hey, teammates left the game for over 30mins after the loading screen check. So I don't think Riot should bother with it, as it brings more faults than good.

gotta love all these people saying it's abuseable someone simply pulling the hook on their internet when their teamcomp gets outmatched and yet fail to realize that those are the type of people that won't care to have 1 match of taking longer into the next game and then using the excuse "Riot doesn't know the difference between those doing it on purpose or not so let's punish everyone instead!" that's the sign of a faulty system right there. People that want to abuse it won't care about 1 game yet those whose client decided to bugsplat or crash or some other weird one time thing happening are the ones who are going to get punished which will just cause a massive influx of people posting in the forums about how unfair it is that they get punished for something that was out of there control and that wouldn't have been an issue if they just maintained the way the game works now and actually let the game continue. Sorry to say this but any system that prefers to punish EVERYONE and not just the ones who deserve to be punished is a bad system

Maybe Riot could implement some kind of indicator with a bar which shows the player how fast their internet is at the moment in the Main menu of the client. Then, if the internet (bar) is low enough, that player wouldn't be able to join a matchmade game. This would let the Summoner know beforehand if his/her internet is slow before actually starting a game with other players.

What do you guys think about this idea?

gr8job1 votes

They would have to further investigate the "firewall" error, which for some players like myself, has gone unsolved for years (mine since 2012,) despite the users' best efforts to resolve it. It only takes me 30 seconds to get into the loading screen, but all other players could easily load to 100% in 30 seconds. That means that I'd be unfairly kicked from a number of games, when the entire loading process only takes about 45 seconds for me, even with this error.

Occams Raiser1 votes

There have been other post that speak on this. I wish they would address it. I think this is the first game I have ever played that holds you hostage under threat after something screws the game from the very beginning. "Vote Requeue" at five minutes when there is only 4 players on a team. I can already hear people typing the word "abuse" right now. As if the abuse of a system is worse than the symptom itself.

Sure you can win 4 on 5 but why should I be held to?

Neoman3211 votes

Just give the person who never connects a 20 minute delay before their next game. This disincentives abusing it and the for the people who are innocent they don't really get punished because if they couldn't connect they probably shouldn't be playing right then anyway.

Noraver1 votes

No way OP. This could be abused too easily though. Totally. Especially if someone doesn't connect by the time minions spawn. If it works for DoTA, that doesn't mean it could work for League. I like losing LP for games where people don't connect until five to ten minutes :^)

Say it's a que that took twelve hours, then someone gets a blackout at loading screen. Wouldn't that be a bit annoying because someone's got crappy internet that cuts out at random?
