New champion teased! Will they contribute to Mobility Creep? Place your bets!

DrCyanide··10 votes·3,950 views

Pretty simple here. We know nothing about the champion other than what we see in the video. Knowing Riot, how do you think things will go with this champion?

EDIT: Well, the results are here: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/champion-reveal/reksai-the-void-burrower

W - Increased movement speed while Burrowed. E - Tunnel, sort of a set-up-beforehand wall hop R - Cross Map distance.

Count that as you will, but for me that's either "Dash and Move Speed" or "Multiple Dashes".

Will they contribute to Mobility Creep?

Wouldn't mobility creep need to be a thing in the first place?

Kassadin, Tristana, Shaco, Corki, Nidalee, Janna, Singed, Jax, Master Yi, and Katarina are all part of the original 40 champions. Ezreal was something like 43, and Lee Sin has been around for quite a while.

I'm not trying to say chasing a Lucian or Zed isn't annoying, but it's not any less annoying than trying to chase an Ezreal or Kassadin. Rammus is still the fastest champion for one side of the map to the other, and trying to chase Singed is still way more annoying than anything newer in his particular tanky niche. Champion archetypes favoring mobility have continued to be mobile. Also - Twisted Fate and Pantheon used to be able to ult anywhere in the map. Mobility's gotten a lot less crazy since then.

Finally - it's pretty uncommon to find champions with no mobility at all, so I don't see how an MS boost will add to mobility creep. Someone with only an MS boost to their name like Udyr, Mundo, or Ryze is usually a champion that can be dealt with through out-maneuvering them, you're not going to have many chances to be more mobile than your opponents with only an MS boost to your name.

Someone compared the first 44 champions released to the last 44 champions released. Movespeed boosts were down a significant percentage, and dashes had more than doubled. They broke things down into movespeed, dashes, and ultimate abilities. It was pretty clear that mobility creep was, in fact, a thing. Riot employees have also admitted that it's a thing.

The champion archetypes avalible have shifted significantly since LoL's release.

Innitially, Jax, Yi, and Tryndamere were the only fighter/assassin champions the game came with. The vast majority of fighters were like Darius, and the game only had 4 true assassins in Shaco, Evelyn, Kassadin, and Katarina.

The assassin and light-fighter class has expanded considerably from the time LoL started, and as assassins use mobility over defense, range, or CC to survive - you've got a lot of champions that are more mobile there.

In the last ~44 champions released there also hasn't been a lot of mages, which are the lowest mobility class - what with usually having a solid amount of range and CC to help them do their work.

The amount of mobile champions /dashes/MS boosts isn't that relevant when you're narrowing down choices to specific lane set-ups within a pool of specific champion archetypes. Obviously releasing Diana, Yasou, and Zed is going to have more mobile champions if the ratio was just Kassadin in the original 40 - but that doesn't mean Kassadin is getting kicked out of mid lane due to not being fast enough to keep up.

Janna mobility creep? Shaco mobility creep? Jax mobility creep? Singed mobility creep?

Mobility creep is not about having anything that let you move differently from base MS, it's when this mobility becomes a part of the way of playing inherent of for the champion and frustrating for whover plays against it.

With ulti + ghost + Ws singed can not catch up to riven. For example. That is mobility creep, when a champ has 2 low cooldown abilities, which even allow you to jump walls, and then has additional power.

Jax has a long cooldown targetted jump, corki has a 20s dash, tristana too, shaco needs to ulti in order to jump. Nidalee is an example as bad as riven, she is uncatchable, doesn't consume mana, can keep doing it for all map long, and in addition to that she has great dmg, heal, shreds, etc.etc.etc.

Ekhm, no. Mobility creep = Each new champion gets slightly better/more gap closers (or movement buffs) than initial one. It's neverending loop which can be broken only by changing champion design policy of Riot.

Similar to power creep.. Or just any x creeps. B stronger/better than A, C better than B, D better than... You get the point, right?

UltimateCryBaby1 votes

kalista is da best example for mobility *bassive

MakersF1 votes

Not really. There are champions that need dashes, jumps, movement speed in their kits. That is bound to happen. And wil continue to happen!

The point is when the abilities are on stupidly short cooldown or without a cost (either mana/energy/stacks). Riven, Yasuo, Kallista, Nidalee and the likes. (Zed for example is gated by energy and cooldowns. If he used the shadow, then he'll be easily catched. Kassa is now gated by mana, Katarina by target and CD)

They become toxic when they have spammable mobility, can jump walls and have additional power to it.

Have you ever heard complaints about Yi, Shaco, Singed, Jax being too mobile right now?

Saianna1 votes

That's why zed is all about mechanics. Pros calculate every energy expenditure.

Anyways to the topic: there are lots of definitions for x creeps, but none from players feelings perspective. Because it's always wrong and leads to game losing playerbase.

(For example Atlantica Online, where once Nexon took over this game they have gone into hyper power creep where every patch adds gear 2 times better than previous. Ofcourse for money. Thus lots of players left with distaste.)

shaco needs to ulti in order to jump.

Deceive is quite possible the best QWE mobility skill in the game. It's Shaco's Q. Which isn't his ultimate.

Which is why I mentioned Shaco as an old champion that's extremely mobile. He's one of the most irritating assassins to chase down.

Jax's 6 second CD leap (pre CDR) also isn't "a long cooldown". It's one of the lowest CD mobility skills in the game.

Mobility creep is not about having anything that let you move differently from base MS, it's when this mobility becomes a part of the way of playing inherent of for the champion and frustrating for whover plays against it.

That's not mobility creep.

Mobility Creep is a type of power creep. With mobility. Others have covered what power creep is in this thread pretty well.

What you're describing sounds a lot more like "mobility should never be a key part of a champion's play style". Which is a fairly awkward stance to take considering LoL has over 100 unique champions with different play styles.

Mobility isn't a quality devoid of counter-balance, it largely fullfills the same ultimate goal of defense, range, and CC. Allowing a champion to survive long enough to get their job done. If a champion is like, say, Riven - where she has incredibly limited defense, range, and CC - she should probably be mobile.

MakersF1 votes

Jax has a 6 CD jump when max rank, and usually you don't max it.

Anyway, what I mean is power creep, as mobility is power. Lucian got his dash buffed and suddendly become extremely strong. What I believe is that lately they do not count mobility enough in the power budget of a champ, so they give mobility without taking enough power from the champs.

Anyway, I'm not a designer, (i guess) you are not eigther, so ther is little point in keeping the discussion up ;)

Jax has a 6 CD jump when max rank, and usually you don't max it.

Leap Strike does more damage than Empowered Strike per rank up, and the lowered cooldown makes Jax considerably more mobile. At level 9 he's close to immune to ganks. Being an end-game champion, the basic strategy against him is to shut him down early. Which is really hard to do if he can't be ganked.

Jax's mana sustain is also pretty awful, and Empowered offers nothing interesting besides a mana sink in extended duels. Literally nothing interesting on that skill - no cool missile art, defense, sustain, CC, buffs, range, minions - just a melee boop over the head that does damage.

Leap Strike is the way to go. I don't even think mobility is imbalanced in this game, but getting a leap to allies/enemies/wards every 6 seconds rather than 10 seconds for the business part of the game is obviously worth a lot more than the potential for an extra 130 magic damage 3 seconds in to a fight.

@67CHOME

Yeah SHaco is irritating, but his kit is outdated and can't match any new assassin. Otherwods: He might kill, he might try to help his team, but he is not gamechanging champion like most of other assassins (Zed, Akali, Kat etc).

Sooko5 votes

I bet it will have %HP dmg, armor shred, dashes, range, a knockup instead of counterable CC and other stuff will render tanks completely useless for teh flashy playz.

At least it will be a non-humanoid female, at last. The only other is Anivia, so that's a refreshing change.

Volt Cruelerz1 votes

Well, there's Elise and Nidalee... half the time...

CrankyChipmonk5 votes

Seems to me as though it's going to have an untargetable, invulnerable, under-the-ground, dash ability that he can stop anywhere along the line to erupt out of the ground for a knock-up.

"Terror coming. Daddy Coming"

"The Terror Beneath" -video title

Maybe it actually was a subtle teaser the whole time...

Imperial Red1 votes

And thus, all is revealed. Well, except the whole "She" thing.

HexTechBomber2 votes

Really it appears to rip it's way up through rifts of some sort.

EXCITING!

Rebonack2 votes

She'll have a move that lets her burrow underground, move through impassible terrain/units, and become untargetable.

It'll probably be her Ult.

Sire Hippington1 votes

guess MS-buff + semi-global port(digging) ult

DrCyanide1 votes

I can defiantly see that.

It's hard for me to tell if the move speed was a part of the teaser only or if that actually reflects an ability. I could see either.

Final GirI1 votes

The creature kind of looks like Cho. Maybe cho update?

Sukishoo4 votes

Nope. The page says "She" so it's a new champion

Meecci3 votes

Cho after the surgery on her period. NAILED IT

Sukishoo1 votes

LOL. Yup that's it XD

Final GirI1 votes

I actually did not notice it said she. My bad! But when you are talking about a beast the proper term is she, even if you don't know if the best is male or female.

Sukishoo1 votes

Eh... I'd say the proper term is "it" as in "here It comes!" or "there it is!". I mean I know things like when spotting a whale are like "There SHE blows" but eh... I think the term should be "it" in most cases.

Either way though, pretty sure this is a new champion and female, as we need plenty more female champions.

Drunk Rummate1 votes

i think it's going to be like she "marks" her prey somehow and it allows her to keep up with it via kassadin style teleports. perhaps it'll be an ultimate with charges similar to ahri.

sooo basically akali?

She's burrowing underground in the video, I'd expect that to be incorporated into her gameplay, maybe as a dash or something (maybe like Maokai's root?)

AbyssionKnight1 votes

Well. it looks like they have some form of gap closer or tp based on the ending. You could also argue that moving underground might be a form of speed boost too, but it's hard to say.

BTW i am fine with mobility creep. The number one reason I didnt pick up this game before now was because its too damn slow.
