When should I start playing Ranked?

røckstãr··1 votes·791 views

So alot of people say don't play ranked when you hit level 30, and because of my ADC tendencies to rage at supports who take my CS and KS on purpose to troll, I haven't started ranked even though I'm 30. I don't have full rune pages, and Idk if I'm ready to do my placements... Thoughts on when I should start or maybe never start at all? I feel like when people say "play 200 more games, you'll regret it if you start right now", I should start immediately because 200 seems like alot of games and I don't really get to play often... Also could any of you share any tips for ranked play in general? (I'm super afraid of the infamous "elo-hell")

Honestly, just play the game till may and see how well you've progressed. If your comfortable to start rank then do so, if not keep practicing.

røckstãr1 votes

How do I know I've progressed? Like when I finish a game sometimes I feel like I did good, but sometimes I feel like I did horrible without any sense of progression.. Is it supposed to be like that forever? What stats can I go off of to see how much I've improved?

MrHaZeYo1 votes

Well, when you do good how good of a opponent do you think you faced? Same as when you do bad? I actually have no answer to your question. I guess once you feel like you won't be a hindrance to your team.

Since the ADC's I play get in hypercarry after the 35:00 minute mark, If I have a least like 5 deaths from a Jhin by the 20:00 mark, I feel useless unless the game gets to that 35:00 mark. As long as I stay away from the assassins and farm under tower I scale alright into the late game

MrHaZeYo1 votes

I mean at the end of the day a full built Jinx will still get blown up by almost every assassin.

Escheton1 votes

No stats. Just recognition.

Every time you are dead and have nothing else to do, reflect on what just happened, and how you could have played better. Preferably going up to how that situation came to be in the first place. (macro, map movements, warding, etc) Doing this will make you more alert to possible mistakes, and you will improve over time.

Get a full rune page and work on your temper, because if you EVER get mad in a normals match that doesn't particularly matter, you'll be more toxic than a singed running away from cassiopeia into a minefield of teemo shrooms where a stealthed twitch is ready to ambush you. You'll be banned too quickly to get past provisionals.

Aw man, so Ranked supports are worse than normal ones? Also, how do you suggest gaining IP quickly?

You and I are/were support mains. Have you not experienced the wrath of autofill?

Well as someone that likes to play tanky top or jungle now, it's bad man. Real bad. It's no longer a matter of which bot lane is the better. It's which bot lane is going to royally screw the other team by refusing to work together or just downright feed carelessly. There's a couple fair matches from time to time but there's some major stompage going on most of the time.

røckstãr1 votes

Oh, maybe I took that the wrong way. Since the supports are better, I think we'd get along just fine as I'm not just toxic on purpose and knows when it's my fault and when it's not. I'm pretty used to telling my support to stay under tower because I cant really help them early game, and then they walk past the river and get killed and blame me for not helping.

Oh hell yea they're worse. Unless they main support, they'll be playing to carry and leave you in the dust, or feed their ass off with a champ they read about 5 minutes before the game starts. And 4 man bot lane ganks are common now with the first tower gold bonus and dragon combo, so expect that to happen. Most supports get autofilled, complain about it, buy no support item or sightstone, and sit back and complain about how bad you are or whatever. If you're starting out I suggest a solo lane because communication failure is what ruins bot lanes. If you're relatively new or not ranked they'll attack you so hard for that.

I mean you can do it, but expect to be called bad a lot by your support who is actually worse than you. :P

røckstãr1 votes

I've only been called bad by 1 of my supports because usually I do OK. But sometimes if they're just trolling me and being the one who gets the CS, I just play support and help them as much as I can because I don't see how a ADC and an APC can play in synergy in the bot lane.

Elo hell doesnt really exist, its just something people can put the blame on instead of themselves.

Now I want you to remember this, it is a team game Kill Stealing does not exist, a kill is a kill. Supports stealing CS is actually really rare too. Like my max CS in a game with a support that doesnt have the relic is any where from 7 in a 20 minute game to 20 in a 50 minute game. With the relic I am usually above 50 by the end.

What about those Lux supports that build damage at the beginning and get CS from me because they're mad that they didn't get mid lane

lux isn't a support. don't play lux support.

røckstãr1 votes

I dont, other people do because they wanted lux mid and got autofilled

Ohikno1 votes

Well as long as they give lots of damage, it's pretty much ok. Just try to steal the kills when they snare the enemy, have a positive attitude! Even if they feed, that just shows that they're getting out-skilled. Not all players can win

røckstãr1 votes

When I try to steal the kills, we already know their the type of people to start raging/flaming and possibly throwing the game

Ohikno1 votes

If that's the problem, you should deal with getting assists, but also participate in a lot of safe splitpushing. It's a good way to get CS and some alone time from those kinds of supports

Ohikno1 votes

Oh another tip is using specific ADCs with specific supports. There are basically 3 kinds of supports. Tank/CC Full AP Damage (idk why that's meta now) Healing/CC Try to find nice combos between champions! Whenever I get autofilled (a lot) I play Sion support, and....well let's just say Sion's CC with Twitch is op.

hey now you are forgetting Utility Tank Sona, that is a type all its own, CC, tanky, damage, heal lol

Ohikno1 votes

Twitch IT'S MEEEEEEEEE! HAHAHAAHAHAHA

røckstãr1 votes

Did someone say Twitch??? Hehehhe thats my main ADC. I think supports with that tanky cc arr best for twitch like blitz and thresh, while they take damage and cc the enemy, you can get your AA-W-AA-E combo off while not getting hurt much.

Full ap is meta because it's obnoxious early game because tank supports need more cooperation for the same damage threshold to be achieved as if i were lux and qer on you while my adc autos you. Not much can counter that.

There are two main ways of looking at it:

1: Don't start ranked until you have at least an ad and an ap runepage. Have mastered at least 2-3 champs for 2 main roles. And have at least some mastery at playing support. (because you might get autofilled, or a team-mate might and covering their flaws is better than playing to your strengths sometimes). Know your counterpicks and have strategies for them. And have steeled both your ego and your goodcheer against flame and disappointment.

2: Start soon as you can. Placing low doesn't matter, as you will climb as you improve at the game anyways.

hunterspec1 votes

yeah don't play it when you hit 30. ranked and normal are way different, ranked is wayyyyy harder especially for new people.

NiamhNyx1 votes

Well if its an auto fill support then they could be worse. Sorry i forgot about that little "feature" it does not even phase us support mains because we are auto fill protected :P

røckstãr1 votes

xD I'm ok with autofill, playing Leona is pretty fun tbh.

Ohikno1 votes

Just play when you think you're prepared, should probably practice playing a champ pool of at least 3 ADCs, and another champion in a different role, just in case you get autofilled. Oh. Also be mentally prepared. You shouldn't get tilted easily and should know that people are sometimes out-skilled by others, and there are mistakes. There will be players that will try to grab you into the deep pit of.................

ELO HELL(a.k.a. the infinitely tilted bronze realm)

Honestly though, runes are really good too. So you might want to get 'em before ranked if you want.

røckstãr1 votes

Some people make it seem like elo hell is something you have to go through unless your Faker and just started ranked

Ohikno1 votes

Oh heck no! You just have to give your teammates little tips on the way. Losing is also learning! You can realize how some champions do badly against others, and (although you might get tilted sometimes) you grow as a summoner by both losing and winning. I've been through that. Last second scramble for Silver was tough with the tilted and angry summoners.
