The West Coast Tears Are Making Me Laugh

We (the east coast) have been having your "issue" for the past 2 years. You shouldnt even have above a 100 ping according to the map they put up. The max you should have is ~45. That's at most 1/3rd of what east coast players are used to. Now that we have ~50 ping, It's a whole new game.

What I hate is the people complaining about having like 80-90 ping. Like, I've had 130 ping for 3 years.

Ive had 100-120 with spikes at 800-1000 since I started playing. Now I have 50 with minimal packet loss.

Ive had a constant 210 ping, even with perfectly fine internet and an ethernet cable.

Contact Riot. It shouldn't be that high. You should still get around 80

No one out west like you weirdos and your weird bagel and hot dog stands! Go back to Five Guys!

(On a serious note, this isn't the issue here. This is just being vindictive. Instead of reversing the problem there should just be two servers. I mean... Can it really be that hard? I can see some problems with people with friends in different states, but then at least you can play normally too instead of constant bad ping.)

Having 2 servers is still weird considering Europe has 2 servers (neither get to play with eachother). I just dont think riot wants to make 2 servers for (prodominantly) 2 countries (especially when they did that in Europe and they cant play with eachother). With a lower playerbase than EU or EUW. Yes, we do have more land area, but no that doesnt mean that east coast should still receive ~100 ping whilst the west coast gets ~30. The movement of the server shouldnt have changed that much.

I just find the whole debate between both sides to be spiteful. This isn't a game where one half of the country suffers, and then switches suffering with the other side. Riot is a business, and the United States is a very LARGE provider of it's income compared to the other countries. I'm sure we could get some exact figures. But Riot most definitely has the funds to separate East and West Coast into 2 servers, but is refusing to do so.

IF, big if, IF Riot doesn't have the money to build and maintain a separate server to split East and West, then someone in the financial department literally fucked up and has lost some of Riot's millions of dollars.

The thing is, the west coast wasnt supposed to suffer. It was simply supposed to change their ping from ~20-30 to ~45-50. The east coast has about 50 ping as well.

The problem with separating the servers is that west coast people wouldnt be able to play with the east coast people. If your friend moved across the country, you would wanna be able to play with that person the same as you have before right? I dont think it's a refusal. I think they're trying to prevent the community from hating a major decision that isnt easily undone.

The fact that you think that Riot messed up if they cant split the servers is insane. First of all, do you know how much it costs to run one of the biggest video games/esports in the world? Servers alone probably take up half of the money they make for esports. Servers are cheaper than people. People would take up atleast the other half (if not more that is covered by the RP cards that you buy). These are all estimates but even still, you can see that just because a company has millions, doesnt mean it's getting 10x it's expenses in return.

Yeah but with this shity decisions riot made, we already have a community that's divided, ppl like us on the west coast now are not very happy, and ppl at the east are all joy and laughter! If they want the community to be NOT divided they should have 2 servers!

Even in your "friend" scenario that doesn't justify with server change, what if i have friend moved to Europe or East Asia? should we have one giant global server because of that? Also isn't having one giant global server cheaper having 4 5 6 server across the globe?

doiminat0r36001 votes

My friend scenario does work but them moving to Europe or East Asia is blowing it out of proportion. 3000 miles across a land mass is different than 3000 miles across an ocean. Someone from Canada should be able to play with others from canada. The fact is, having a server that is only on the west coast (making the midwest - east coast ping ~50 and above) vs the entire west coast getting ~20 ping to now where everyone shouldn't be getting above a 60-70 ping unless something is wrong, is a big deal. Especially when it comes to server balance.

The divided community isnt a very good example. You could say the community is divided on literally every change that they've made in the game since release. Should they have infinite versions of the game to accomidate for every change they have made? No because that would either spread the community to a really thin state where you could never find a 5v5 game except once in a blue moon (you'd be playing with the same 9 other people as long as you are on that server). The fact is you can't make everyone happy. But as long as a big majority of the players aren't complaining about ping and latency issues, it's a fairly balanced network route.
