What is Urgot's role/how to play him effectively?

So I've recently returned after a long hiatus, and it's pretty cool to see Riot constantly polishing League and working on champions. I've been playing a bit of the new Urgot recently, and I have to say I want to like him. But it seems to me that he has a bad case of the "win lane, lose game" syndrome.

I consistently crush lane with him, which I'm pretty sure he's meant to do. But I find I manage to have little impact outside of the lane phase, with Urgot being slow, lacking reliable hard cc (his dash is very close range and has a slow animation), and being very close range. I feel in teamfights all I'm able to do is sit on the front lines and try to mulch enemy tanks, and hope that my team's backline is stronger than the enemy's. If yes, we win. If no, we lose. I feel my contribution to winning the game is pretty limited, outside of sniping a low health enemy champion with Urgot's ult (which is awesome).

Am I missing something or is this just an Urgot thing? How are people building him usually?

Mostly Urgot thing, from my experience with him of around 100 games. I would say Urgot feels best to play as beefy damage dealer. I think his job is to do a lot of damage, while staying tanky enough to not easily die to tanks , divers or assasins.

The build path I enjoyed so far in most games was Black cleaver —> ninja tabi —>Maw of malmortius—>Randuins Omen, and since we are gonna be hitting tanks and divers quite often mortal reminder 5th item for additional penetration, and last situational item, GA, Merculiar, Frozen Mallet, R. Glory, Adaptive helm or even Bork. I consider the first 5 items pretty much core on Urgot, as it has good mix of durability and damage.

For runes I would recommend primary sorcery aery or arcane cometh, and precision secondary, triumph is too good on Urgot. Q or W Max are both good, depending on keystone and match up.

I just lost to an Urgot "/ seems too strong. He would shit on me and my jungler ganking him at the same time. RIP.

I would only pick Urgot on the condition that the enemy team has a Lethality caster instead of an ADC. Otherwise youre just going to get bodyslammed by a traditional ADC when teamfights start coming around.
