Unpopular Opinion: Matchmaking is working, One Shot meta boosted a lot of players.

So I'm just going to put this out there for downvotes. But current matchmaking feeling like shit is likely a fallout of the one shot meta.

One shotting doesn't take skill. What happened when the one shot meta started?

  1. A lot of players got to a rank where they didn't belong by one shotting.
  2. Said players don't know how to rotate or help their team.
  3. Matchmaking frustration occurs because they are way above their skill level.

Now Don't get me wrong here I'm not saying all of the players got to a rank they didn't belong. I'm also not saying one shotting takes 0 skill. It just takes less skill than actual teamplay. Teamplay is probably 10/10 hardest thing to do.

TLDR: So while everyone complains about matchmaking being shit its actually probably just a fallout of the burst meta, and people getting where they don't belong. We also need to keep nerfing damage so we can get back to a healthy skilled game.

On the argument that a lot of people climbed without skill: sure. I'll agree.

However, there is a polar argument: People who are skilled but play fill are now 3-4 tiers below where they should be, and are brutally outclassing the people they are playing against, creating more images of feeders/trolls/etc.

Quite also possible.

I'm at 30 wins 15 losses on this account, and just now finally got through my first promos.... from Bronze II to Bronze I for Support lol. And that's without unlocking ADC as a role. Between just 4 roles, took a 66-67% win rate to get one class up 1 tier.

A friend just played a ranked game that was his promo, here's the link of the game https://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/es/#match-details/EUW1/3926699986/24439834?tab=overview

Now look the profile of the Twitch jng on his team: he is a new player, lvl 33, unranked, not even 1 champ at M5, his match history looks like https://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/es/#match-history/EUW1/2091542970404416

And when game started Twitch didn't even know how to get agro on Red, the Red was reseted and when Thresh stayed there more to help him he smited without warning on the the Red with the bad luck that a Thresh aa got Red, then he went Bot and stayed there farming when he was jungler.

Now, I'm pretty sure that him being on a game with everyone else Gold should not happen.

My friend told me that it's one of the first ranked games that he wish he could have dodged, but, since it was a promo game it wouldn't even be worth at all.

And honestly, I dont think that anything about this happens for the "one shot" meta, because it's not that he was higher in the elo acording to his skill, he was fking unranked. Matchmaking has it issues, but I dont think that the meta has caused it.

Riot "we are going to start new players in iron tier"

But we are also going to make them play against golds and silvers on their way to iron.

Match making felt wrong before the one shot meta for me. The only thing that seems to make it better is climbing higher

  1. It's not an unpopular opinion. Everyone here wants to blame one shot meta.

  2. It's just an opinion and not a fact. The fact of the matter is that Riot fucked up MMR royally when they introduced the new season, and there's a ton of proof of that. It's been pointed out by high elo players and documented as true by Rioters.

  3. A game where the meta is documented for you to follow letter by letter because damage is so low that only utility/CC heavy picks are worth picking is not a skillful game. I have no idea why boards users jerk this idea so much if they want so much creative flexibility.

Its unpopular that matchmaking is working.

Utility and CC aren't the only thing that matters. You can still oneshot people its just actually more difficult than pressing 2 buttons now.
