How the hell do you Jhin? Is Jhin bad?

I don't understand how he fits into the ADC role.

His disadvantages are horrendous for the ADC role:

  1. he has to reload every 4th shot (making it super awkward for the support to set up plays),
  2. because of the above and his inability build attack speed he SUCKS against tanks (aren't ADCs supposed to shred tanks?)
  3. His Ultimate is basically a worse version of Miss Fortune's ultimate (come to think of it, there isn't a single thing besides his W that he does better than MF, isn't MF just better across the board?)
  4. He can't tower push
  5. His wave clear is beyond pathetic

So...

WHAT the hell is he supposed to do?

He has tons of AD but that's largely offset by his reload BS and low attack speed. If he's meant to be an "assassin" then pray tell... why should I replace in my team comp my DPS sustained damage anti-tank weapon (like a Vayne or a Cait that can potentially delete the whole team, tanks included)... for a god damn Jhin?

Someone explain to me how he's viable.

Yes the long range W is nice once in a while but CC isn't why you go for the ADC right? Again, if you wanted to balance CC with damage, someone like Ashe is much better.

Am I missing something or is this champ just bad?

First, his AA's aren't really meant for farming minions, his Q does that best and he's better off using his AA's to attack his enemy laners. Time that 4th shot right and you can really wreck someone's day with it.

Second, placement of your E traps and remembering to react to them when they are triggered makes or breaks you because he has no real escapes.

Third, His W is best (for me at least) for when an enemy is running away and you've got that 4th shot primed for a kill.

Lastly, the ult is an executer and should only be used when you are CERTAIN the area around you is safe and you are sure you can get whomever you're aiming for because it leaves you WIDE open.

That's just MY take on it, feel free to do with this information as you will.

Ok sure but why2 votes

He ain't good at sustain, but he sure hurts

He's best with a tank-cc-support so he can use his full whammy kit on them

In teamfights, unlike your average Vayne or Twitch, your role is to just take cheap pot-shots at them until they all die

His traps late game do like 1000 magic damage, and your snare is designed to make sure unlucky fellows stay on your traps and take it like a good slut

And his ult isn't exactly something you use from the back of the fight, but on the side -- some place where the tank will have to move away to protect the adc, letting the rest of your team in more easily

i don't really like his grenade tho

To the contrary. Jhin is a top tier ADC picked in the LCS by pros.

He is played because he is amazing at taking out squishies from long range, has utility even when behind, has unchanging 4th shot damage whether he's 1-9 or 9-1, can start fights with the slow from his ult, and is surprisingly hard to lock down.

He has to reload so often and can't DPS tanks down.

Would you not rather have a Jinx or a Vayne shredding the whole enemy team?

He can't DPS tanks down but how many actual tanks are being played? Most "tanks" these days are bruisers like Vi, Hecarim, etc. who are actually extremely squishy until they buy tank items because they don't have base tankiness. Hecarim, for example, is actually squishier than Tryndamere if he doesn't buy tank items, which he doesn't until after Tier 2 boots, Triforce and Cinderhulk - almost 8000 gold in. For equal gold, Jhin can get item 3508 item 3094 item 1038 which is far more powerful and can chunk Hecarim with a single auto, which is all that's needed in mid-game teamfights since there's still other sources of damage.

Jhin is very good at executing people who are low at long range, so the other thing is, he punishes solo queue mistakes very hard. If an engage goes bad, you can't walk away no matter how tanky you are, since he does % missing HP with slow.

I'm not even sure he's good at long range execution. What does he have to do that?

His Ult is unreliable for that purpose (people can body block, you can miss, and so much damage is packed into the 4th shot, by the time you are ready for that shot, the fight's over or they are gone)

You can't long-range execute with W, you still have to move in close to finish.

I mean, you can call him a Clean Up Champ but I fail to see where the "long range" part of his execute capabilities comes from. He seems pretty short ranged to me. Your Ult is rarely ever going to kill anything and while W is incredibly ranged, his autos are not.

Also, why should I trade a hypercarry sustained fire machine-gun like Jinx or MissFortune in the late game for a specialised Clean Up champion who can't DPS?

Clean Up is only an option if a fight plays out a certain way allowing you to clean up. You don't want that restriction, you want to DPS WHILE the fight is still in the thick.

Also, why is is that Jhin is better at Clean Up than say Vayne or Twitch. Anyone can show up late to a party and execute the survivors. But with Jhin, you lose your entire DPS capability on your team (unless you run an ADC somewhere else too).

DPS is relevant whether or not True Tanks are meta or not. The thing is, the enemy's always going to build at least SOME armor if there's a plausible ADC threat. In those situations, having a Jhin on your team instead of a Jinx or a Caitlyn is a huge disadvantage.

...

Also, in this bot lane meta where its all about rushing bot tower... do you really want an ADC there that has a low rate of fire, needs to reload, and can't push towers by himself?

His Ult is honestly terrible.

  1. You can miss or be blocked
  2. It takes too long to dish out the damage (by the time you've got 4th shot, people are out)

Most of the time, it simply serves as over-glorified long-range slow (over which you have limited control over who you target because you'll only have the option of hitting tanks).

If its an execute capability WHILE the enemy's running away that you seek... you don't need a specialist for that kind because that assumes you've already WON the team fight. There's no guarantee of that. Do you want an ADC that's only useful when you've won the team fight?

Maybe Jinx will let a few people get away after winning the fight whereas having Jhin means no one escapes. But what's truly important is WHO enables the fights to be won. And in that respect you want sustained AD DPS, not the unreliability of Jhin.

His reload isn’t a problem as (if you’ve played your lane correctly and end up getting fed) he insta-deletes and basically outduels every adc mid-late game, especially late game where he can two shot every squishy champion.

Isn't Miss Fortune basically an all-around improved and more reliable version of Jhin

(with the added advantage of not having to reload or aim tricky skill shots, being able to DPS and build attack speed, wave clear and take towers)???

cleoper1 votes

so jhin does have to reload every fourth shot but if u have anything damage related built than you can kill them with four shots.

oh yah i take this back you would have to use abilities and have b.f sword

I take it as a sign of good design, when some people think a champion is useless, while others think he is OP and are playing him. Since then a lot of people get to play OP champs vs. what they think are weak ones. While a large part of sentiment here seems to be that he is weak, he is also considered strong by some, so seems to me to be fairly balanced AND good design, based on that. If you think he's weak, don't play him, and let those who think he's strong play him, everyone wins!

I still think Ashe is superior in every way.

Ashe has a similar levels of utility with her perma slows and her Ult. She's much easier to play without having to reload (missing a single AA is also less costly)... and most importantly, she can DPS tanks.

If you build ER you have similar levels of utility to Jhin but even with an IE build, the utility feels close.

At 2+ items, Ashe also feels stronger.

Jhin's also only useful if the team is already ahead. In almost any other situation, you need a ton of DPS to swing back a losing game.

While Ashe brings much more utility to the table, Jhin brings much more damage than Ashe & can easily out-duel most adcs with two shots. Jhin does need a lot of peel though and I do agree with the team needing to be ahead especially versus a fed bruiser/diver/assassin.
