Jhin Is Less Of A Sniper Than Cait

Riot tried to create a champion that has to be skilled to kill their targets from far away with his ult

but put a slow on it that makes it to were if you land 1 shot your guaranteed to hit every shot after that and every shot can act as an execute, aaand you have 4 tries......... K, I guess I just missed the part about how snipers have to be skilled, because I'm not seeing it in Jhin.

I played Jhin when he was free, not recently, and it took me more tries than I would like to admit to actually figure out how to use his ult, I kept activating and deactivating it -_- but after I figured it out, it was easy for how hard I feel like an actual Sniper should be, and it did a lot of damage for an easy, high range, low risk/high reward ability.

Admittedly though, landing the first shot to be able to easily land the rest can be hard.

TL;DR I don't think a low risk/high reward ability that's supposed to require skill should have a potent slow attached to it.

Well, just because it's not as hard as it could be doesn't mean it's not a long-range skillshot execute, the sort that rather defines snipers. I'd say he's more of a Sniper than any other ADC at the moment.

I would say Ashe and Jinx are snipers more so than Jhin. There ult hit boxes are bigger, but those across the map kills are epic and you only get 1 chance, and they take skill and timing. It's true that they can be used close range but Jinx ult does to much damage close range, and Ashe ult does stun for long at close range.

If I wanted to play an adc that feels like a sniper I would play Ashe or Jinx over Jhin.

But for different reasons. And neither of them are like Caitlyn. They have one sniper ability, and then the rest of their kits are gunslinger kits. (A term I'm using now.) That doesn't make their entire playstyle sniper, nor does it make Jhin's playstyle not that of a sniper simply because he doesn't have a global ult.

The post wasn't meant to literally compare him to Cait, it was meant to point out Jhin's short comings as a supposed sniper.

Gunslinger kits XD

As for playstyle, Jhin's ult and to a lesser extent his W is the only things that make him a sniper. Jinx is very similar to Jhin in what makes her like a sniper.

If it was not literally meant to compare him to cait you literally should not have put a comparison of him vs cait in your title, dude likes dropping people at long ranges in game shure, but mostly just enjoys killing folks in what he considers an artistic fashion. Hell man read some lore and you will know that he became infamous for his knife work.

WOW, that sounds gorey, like some serious horror movie type stuff.

the slow is to give it some semblance of utility outside of the execute since more often than not, the back line is gonna be , get this, at the back and the front line will just body block it.

It also does very little damage to full health targets compared to low health ones, meaning it is often most useful for the slow just to catch someone out, not the execute.

Especially since the range is so easy to get out of most of the time and you are a sitting duck while using it.

This situation assumes it's a teamfight Jhin's using his ult in, but there are other situation for it to be used in. Also even if his his ult is blocked by the front line all 4 shots will still do considerable damage to a tank.

True, but this means it will do progressively more damage with each shot, which makes it seems like he's just firing a barrage of missiles at you instead of sniping you. Being used for catching someone out doesn't exactly live up to the sniper fantasy imo.

Pretty sure this is what the cd refund for each unused shot it for, so your not just fucked over if they get out of range before you can make use of it.

you are a sitting duck while using it.

It's well known that positioning is vital to playing an adc, so I would say your only a sitting duck if you fuck up the positioning.

CD refund isn't very substantial. your aren't getting 1/4th of the CD back per shot. Also, no you aren't doing considerable damage to tanks, lol. Not unless they are already low HP.

Disagree. Jhins ultimate is more of a sniper feel than Caits, and even has the epic music moment. jhin's W is huge.........

He even looks like a sniper.

Can't argue with that. Maybe I should petition to get epic music put on Cait's ult.

But, Cait looks more like a sniper than Jhin, because top hat.

I have never seen snipers with a top hat. Most wear a mask. The military ring any bells? Anyone who hunts? Just lots of stuff. Jhin fits, and his lore seems to fit more of a sniper.

Your thinking realistic snipers, I'm thinking stereotypical british snipers, James Bond, Batman's butler Alfred. and the Penguin.

CrimsonCobra31 votes

What? None of those are snipers. They have nothing in common with snipers. Now I'm just confused as to what you think a sniper is in the first place.

Tbh, I don't even think of Cait being a sniper, considering the fact that her ult sniping requires a Point & Click instead of a skillshot like Jhin's ult.

It's actually more due to the new headshot passive and interactions.

I think the reliability of her ult is necessary for her sniper fantasy. Locking on target and acing your target, as appose to aim and hope you hit. To me Jihn's ult feels more like Artillery than a sniper. (Which is also long range, less reliable but more stopping power. ) Though if you wanted her ult to feel more like your acing your opponent, I would give it Execute damage if it doesn't already have any.

Overall, I think it's difficult to express the sniper fantasy in a way that wouldn't make her oppressive. Normaly, I would imagine a sniper having a greater attack range than her vision range. Requiring help to scout and pick off targets. and yet, that would be unworkable in League due to vision granted by minions, wards, towers, and other champions.
