Unfortunately there aren't enough tanks that have significant drawbacks for what they do. Malphite has almost completely exclusive access to your team's backline, Maokai gets so tanky with his ult and does so much damage that he's a threat to everyone on your team, Poppy just fucked everyone (but isn't really broken anymore). Ekko has extreme mobility for his damage and build as a tank. Nautilus has a point and click ult that basically marks your ADC with a sign that says "I'm dead, kill me". There are no significant drawbacks to these tanks.

Let's look at tanks like Sion or Gnar. Sion's CC is easily avoided and since his damage is mostly tied to his CC, so is his damage. Gnar spends the majority of the game in a vulnerable state and must TIME his plays. He has to be smart about how he manages his fury bar. These champions aren't broken or frustrating to play against because you can AVOID or KNOW when they are going to fuck you up.

As if Mini Gnar isn't basically Teemo on crack, with a Vayne passive W.

But he's squishy as hell, and much easier to kill. He also doesn't do as much damage as Teemo or Vayne. Let him keep hitting you repeatedly, and he will, but Teemo and Vayne will do much more to you if they keep hitting you

I disagree. If your Gnar is so squishy, then he isn't performign as well as he could/should in MEga form to begin with. His W does %HP damage so it is always relevant and he gets speed boosts for hitting you and even more for proccign his W as well as a slow that refreshes and applies his W.

Once you are on top of teemo, he is done, and is FAR more squishy than Gnar (same for Vayne) but Gnar will just go Mega, get a third of his Health back and Burst you with high damage CC.

Gnar also has ridiculous mobility in mini form in the form of his E.

Uh, no, he's squishy because his base stats are the worst in the game, while Mega Gnar is so tanky because his base stats are the best in the game. It has nothing to do with performance.

Also, if you attacked a gnar that was almost mega, and got destroyed by one, that's on you, not Gnar.

Ridiculous mobility. A single hope with a large cooldown is insanely mobile? Jesus do you put him in the same league as tank ekko?

I mean... Gnar is frustrating to LANE against, but fun to actually FIGHT. If that makes sense.

It doesn't,I hate dealing with gnar at all points in the game.

Just avoid his poke in the early stages, and you'll be alright. You can predict his movement through the use of his boomerang, so position to your advantage. Unless your jungler is high damage/high CC, you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that you won't kill him.

When he goes Mega, he's extremely telegraphed. Keep your distance unless he blows a combo on you. In that case harass him hard for it.

Why would that change anything,it's not like he stops hurting after a few levels,%max hp damage makes sure of that.

You can predict his movement through the use of his boomerang, so position to your advantage.

Which also has this part where it slows you,oh,and costs no mana, that's a really fun thing I love about him, manaless poke(the only thing I love more than is manaless sustain).

Unless your jungler is high damage/high CC, you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that you won't kill him.

While he just pokes me for %max hp+long ranged poke, and can't be jumped on,while also having the capability to burst me down and lock me down in his mega form, now why would I possibly hate dealing with him?

Frankly my opinion of gnar has always been "My kit is completely overloaded, retarded and flat out ridiculous, but irelia counters me,so I'm balanced",just because some very few champions can succesfully abuse his weak windows, doesn't mean mega gnar can have such a ridiculous amount of damage+cc+tank stats+mobility,it's not like his ranged form is anywhere near weak, yes a few champions can abuse that, but most will struggle abusing his windows of weaknesses.

When he goes Mega, he's extremely telegraphed. Keep your distance unless he blows a combo on you. In that case harass him hard for it.

He get's as telegraphed as malphite and his ultimate, you know he's gonna ult you,but chances are it's going to be hard for you to avoid(though well, more avoidable than malphite, but still),he just jumps at you then throws you half a map into a wall(which the map is full of),or does his double jump combo.

Melledoneus5 votes

Why would that change anything,it's not like he stops hurting after a few levels,%max hp damage makes sure of that.

Because once you actually have built some MR and other defenses, Gnar starts dealing less damage overall. If he's building full damage, then he's going to get deleted in fights, Mega or not.

Which also has this part where it slows you,oh,and costs no mana, that's a really fun thing I love about him, manaless poke(the only thing I love more than is manaless sustain).

It slows you only if it hits you, and it stops short shortly after hitting a target, so if you're standing behind minions he should be able to hit you with it. Not to mention that sure, it's manaless harass, but if you force him to position away from the return, he has to deal with it being on cooldown for a considerable period of time.

While he just pokes me for %max hp+long ranged poke, and can't be jumped on,while also having the capability to burst me down and lock me down in his mega form, now why would I possibly hate dealing with him?

First of all, he has to get three consecutive hits on you to deal the %HP damage. Second, he CAN be jumped on, but he's slippery with his jump, so harassing him while it's on cooldown is ideal. Third, his mega form is slow. It's easy to dodge if you have gotten used to its moves, and if you play the lane correctly he will push right into your turret, leaving him open for a gank. Even after using his jump, Gnar can be killed. That just means that if he does have his leap, he's easier to kill. Gnar is annoying because he can't be dealt with normally, being a hybrid champion that can switch between a ranged AD caster to a melee bruiser. Other than that, he's perfectly killable, you just have to allocate more resources to taking down a smart Gnar. It's all about utilizing his weaknesses in each form.

He get's as telegraphed as malphite and his ultimate, you know he's gonna ult you,but chances are it's going to be hard for you to avoid(though well, more than malphite, but still).

This is entirely untrue. Mega Gnar doesn't have nearly as much range with his jump as Malphite has with his ultimate. Not to mention the cast time for all of Mega Gnar's abilities are sluggish, meaning you can sidestep it given you at least bought boots. Usually Gnar players hold on to their abilities in Mega form for zoning, but never for actually any practical use unless you position wrong.

Its very hard to avoid fighting Gnar, just going to say. thats because when you go up to farm, he's gonna q you through minions, slow you, then get the easy two autos and run out, or if he's turning mega, he's gonna step on you. The only time when its a good idea to fight gnar, is when you have a gapcloser on a lower cooldown than Gnar's E or if you scare him into blowing it, backing off to draw him back in and then leap on him(renekton is good at this, along with trynd and others.)

Darkslayer852 votes

I actualy MAIN Gnar, and I'd just like to say he is totally balanced OP

Mistress Madoka2 votes

At least his %HP Damage isn't True Damage

Darkslayer857 votes

Okay I main Gnar, and I'd like to give you a few counter tips.

Mini Q - This only damages you ONCE. Additionally, after the first target struck, it will only move about a teemo and half further, so standing behind minions helps to dodge this. He also has to move to catch it, or it is placed on a crazy cooldown. It's kinda like aim where draven needs to catch his axes.

Mega Q - This projectile has a significant cast time, and is easy to dodge as long as you aren't just bad at dodging.

Mini W - A good Gnar looks to AA Q AA to proc this. It does magic damage after he gets three stacks, so an early item 3211 can help against this, thanks to the passive. Unless he's going all-in, he's just looking to trade. The enhanced regen for a few seconds helps you come on top. It also builds into item 3065 /item 3102 , which are both good tank items.

Mega W - This ability is hard to dodge. I try to juke it out before engaging him. However, if you find he is slamming a fist into your face, dodge sideways, not back. Another option is to try and stand sort of behind his hand so that you are inside his character. This will cause him to toss the Mega Q right past you.

Mini E - This is a MASSIVE attack speed steroid. Be careful if he initiates a fight with this. item 3155 is a good defensive option so that his Mini W does not have as much of an effect.

Mega E - This is his primary initiation tool in teamfights. Play passive when you know he has this available.

Mini R - This is just a passive to lower the cooldown on Q if he catches it and it also increases movement speed on W. It's not very significant, however do expect a minor powerspike at level 6/11/16.

Mega R - This is EXTREMELY easy to dodge. The range is about the same as a Darius Q, and it is almost useless if it misses a wall.

General Counter:

That red bar under his health IS NOT HIS MANA!!!!! It is his rage bar. When it goes full, he becomes Mega Gnar. He can also pop E while transforming to do an AoE double bounce into you and throw in his full combo.

He transforms back after 15 seconds, which is VERY short, believe it or not.

Then he gets movement speed for three seconds. After that, he is tired out for FIFTEEN seconds, meaning he won't generate rage, and he is a squishy little yordle.

Finally, item 3111 helps with tentacity against Gnar's overloaded CC.

Hope this helps!

(begins kicking himself for sabotaging himself)

charcharmunro2 votes

So what do you do if he builds item 3022 and you have no gapcloser?

My Waifu Vanilla3 votes

Not fight him and wait for 5v5s because if he built it first he is squishy as hell by Mega Gnar standards (and FM does nothing for Mega Gnar).

The 2nd Horseman1 votes

Just gonna sit here with my mastery 5 on gnar that I have no idea how I got.

But at least you can build something to resist gnar's W damage. Also he hops in an attempt to kill you and he miscalculates, we have one dead squishy, unless he's about to go mega then the citation depends on the champion.

I got my mastery 4 Gnar by playing Sated Devourer Gnar when Sated worked for every other auto on ranged champions too. Was the most obnoxious thing I ever did and it was hilarious.

I overall just find the assertion that he is squishy ludicrous. he is still building Bruiser stats damnit. and his Mega Form is so easy for him to activate in mini form when he has items.

The 2nd Horseman2 votes

If you play him you'll know the feeling of being blue balled when you get bursted before mega. Also mini-gnar has some of the lowest base health in the game I think.

Maokai isn't that tanky. For me Alistar taking no damage and locking things down is more annoying, Maokai just feels a little more squishier.

And god, Naut's CC is annoying.

Oelyk1 votes

Arguably, Gnars mini passive is very strong for dueling and his stalling/kiting potential in mini is insane, he's basically garenteed to win any fights he picks.

(your dead anyway if he's mega, mega is just way to strong.)

Too bad the only thing we have to punish marksmen for building as a marksman is item 3075, while they have multiple ways to punish tanks for tanking . You know an Item sucks when it gives you the most armor one item can give, has a seemingly great passive, but only costs 2350g.
It's like going to the store, finding a touchscreen computer with all the best features possible, but it's priced at 250 bucks with no warranty. That just screams "I'm going to break down the moment you unbox me".

If Vayne was deleted, the game would be so much better. She has been a consistent problem since her release because of silver bolts which are frankly rediculous are like she doesn't even need to build any AD at all. She can just kill somebody through by broken ability.

Vayne has never been a huge problem, she's done what she was intended to do since she has been released. Her job is to shred tanks with more reliability than other adcs. Vayne very much so builds ad, the only time she doesn't have much ad is when she's 1-3 items depending on the build path which changes based on enemy team.

I think everyone got used to her damage, but ammount of self peel she also has is retarded, invisibility and knockback with stun is bullshit.

Agreed her kit is bullshit. They need to gut all these "on hit" champs really, they always cause issues.
