New Meta/Gameplay Styles

Just giving my personal thoughts on this (got bored, felt like posting stuff), but in this game we're expected to try new ideas, right? As with the Nunu and Singed incidents, people can't get banned for playing off-meta. They can, however, be banned for ruining the experience for teammates.

I don't understand how we're supposed to try new things if we only have 5 options in draft mode (top, mid, jungle, bot, support). Of course people will object to off-meta ideas. It may ruin their experience, which makes perfect sense. However, if anyone has noticed, once something off-meta (or anything unusual) is done in pro play, people will immediately go to it. I'd bet MF supp would be another Nunu and Singed episode if it happened before pro play. It would "ruin the experience" for the ADC.

New ideas often get shut down, either by Riot nerfing it into oblivion, or the players reporting it into oblivion. Now, some things are perfectly reasonable to question. If you had someone go queue for support, then go counter jungle, very obvious reason to hate. If they did that in the LCS or something, then everyone would do it. In short, my point is that except for the release of new items and champions, along with buffs/nerfs, not much can truly change in the game. Any changes are really just additions to the current meta, but try doing something completely different (I recently had an idiot dodge because they didn't want Twisted Fate jungle, which is actually not that bad) and people will look away. New ideas will be hated, be it idiotic or actually strategic.

Point in short: there's not much room for creativity.

Roles are one of those constant things. If you want to experiment with changing up the role dynamic, you need to have a plan.

And Friends.

Only go 2 jg if you have a group of friends who are OK with a solo bot lane, ETC.

So the difference between LCS players with off meta picks versus people trying out stuff in Bronze V is that the LCS players have made massive calculations, spent hours fitting it into a team comp, and spent days working on team coordination with their team before they ever consider playing it in a real game. Mordekaiser is the most recent example of this.

You believe that new ideas will always be shut down.

Well.

Carry games and no one will report you.

If you have a clear plan and set of win conditions that you explain to your team, and they accept, then go ahead. If they ask you to not do it, then don't do it at all. It is that simple. if they ask you to no play your off meta pick, and you do and lose the game for them, they will report you. Too many reports and Riot will step in. Then people who don't understand the situation will jump in and cry about it.

Well I'm not the one playing off-meta. I just felt like voicing my opinion on this, I guess.

P.S. "If they ask you not to do it," That's sort of the problem. 90% of the time these ideas get shut down. Like with that TF jungle thing I mentioned. Happened today, actually. It's not even screwing over the bot lane or anything, it's just a different jungler and people already object to that.

P.P.S. I wasn't the TF, in case you're wondering.

The object because he prob didn't ask and refused to communicate about his choice.

That's how you get reported and lose games.

I mean, it was just another average day playing Ranked. He didn't exactly "ask," but in the first 15 seconds or so before banning phase, he did show he intended to TF jungle. It's not even that weird, maybe off-meta, yes, but it is reasonable and has its benefits (the ult, mana sustain, decent ganking potential with yellow card stuns). It's mostly just people hating on anything they don't usually see. Maybe this was a poor example, but it does give an idea of the tolerance level of "not meta" in the community. With the direction this community is moving in, we might need to start reporting people for playing Urgot top or something that's not entirely unreasonable.

We're on season 7 now, 1-1-2 + jg has been the primary way to play the game for almost 7 years. Please stop trying to reinvent the wheel or discover fire.

No, it wouldn't. People have picked off meta supports for as long as league has been a game and it's never been an issue. The issue hasn't ever been simply picking nunu/singed and playing them as support. The issue was leaving the adc to 1v2 while you double jungled. Double jungle sucks, has always sucked, and probably will always suck. You pretty much take away the ability for your jungler to counter jungle, and leave a lane 1v2. Sure you might put the enemy jungler behind a bit, assuming he doesn't solo kill you while you're trying to counter jungle him, but that's not a significant enough advantage to outweigh the negatives of it.

If you had someone go queue for support, then go counter jungle, very obvious reason to hate. If they did that in the LCS or something, then everyone would do it.

That's not true either. Lane swaps were rampant in the lcs. Yet they were virtually never done outside of pro play. Because pro play isn't solo queue. There's a difference between picking a champion in a role you see it picked in pro play, and adapting unique strategies they use.

I recently had an idiot dodge because they didn't want Twisted Fate jungle

If it was in ranked and the guy didn't have an extraordinary winrate with it, I probably would have dodged too, honestly. Just because they dodged though, doesn't mean he'll ever get punished for playing tf jg. It's his right to do that, just like it's the players' rights to dodge.

For your first point, you know the influence pro play holds over solo queue. Anything done there can influence people's pick choices, like MF support.

For the second thing, that's a hyperbole. Same thing with the paragraph above this one, people do try and copy pros, and a lot of time without success so they give up.

Person said nothing about the winrate, just simply whined and refused to co-operate. Like, literally they had first ban and they just insta-banned TF to avoid it. Then the guy just went Ezreal jungle, which I probably would've complained about to be honest. That's the real reason the "idiot" dodged, but my point lies in that anything not the meta is generally not accepted.

Also, not trying to reinvent the wheel. Just trying to say that people don't like anything that isn't the wheel, unless done by people in the higher levels of play.
