It feels like point & click spells have far less range than they are shown to have.

A lot of the time when playing a champion, and most notably while moving, my point & click ability (If applicable) won't actually activate until I get a lot closer to the target. Is this some sort of hidden mechanic I don't know about? Like it being maximum projectile travel distance or something? If so, then why isn't the range indicator dynamic?

i cant find the vid anymore but that is due to the map.

  1. being at a weird angle
  2. map has a "lower" level with the river.

They're center of model to center of model while autos only need to touch edged IIRC.

My layman's guess is that skillshots have longer range than what is projected because the outer edge of their hitbox will register as contact with an enemy who is technically not within range (especially if it's a circle and the "max range" is calculated by its center). Targeted spells wouldn't have this advantage because they can't be "activated" outside of their max range and so they can't access that "extra" range that we've come to expect from other abilities, making it seem like something is wrong with the range of targeted abilities.

I may vaguely recall a dev talking about this but at any rate this is my guess.

Each ability is either coded to target the "edge" of a model, or the "center" (I think they can also be cast from edge or center as well). The difference between the two is ~50 units for a normal champion, something like a Chogath can be much more though.

There are different ability range types there is (centre to centre), (edge to edge), etc.

If you want to know something funny nasus W range is 600 units and zileans E slow thingy is 550 units. Yet ingame if both click their respective ability on the other zilean will actually apply it first without ever entering Nasus wither range.
