Somebody help me, what could I have done to differ the outcome here?

I simply can't understand why things went like they did here. I manage to catch Kog'maw a few meters away from his support, I get a full combo in before any defensives are used but I was only able to do 75% of his health bar, and that's before locket, heal and guardian came into play. I am slightly ahead of Kog at this moment, I got 4/5 stacks on my bonetooth and I got 2 infernal dragons backing me up. There's no level difference, but I simply cannot fathom how this was enough to protect him.

What should I have done here to pull off the assassination successfully?

I honestly don't know. This could just be a matter of poor balance. I have similar problems when I play assassins, and I've seen several teammates and opponents alike go through similar troubles. The only other thing you possibly could've done is wait to go in when he's down to about 60% to start with, but that's kind of absurd when you're jumping on a same-level ADC. Their whole drawback is supposed to be their squishiness.

I don’t recall myself saying I should have, but the point is that Braum is actually a camp’s distance away from his ADC. I get to unload a full burst, with absolutely no defensives active, but I wasn’t able to kill the guy when I clearly caught him. Why didn’t I win that?

It's because it was 1 vs 2 , you could have killed him but Braum showed up

But that’s the thing, I had a few moments alone with Kog’maw, shouldn’t I have been able to blow him up when he had no shields+heals?

Sadly no , not with these items , you need like Duskblade to get him faster , since it's nerfed , you will need like 2 items , but try item 3087 item 3031 item 3508 too , you will delete him with 1 basic attack

As much as I'd like to go crit, I'm afraid I didn't have the budget for that set of items at the time of this happening

Yeah so in general with the items you had , you can kill him , but he needs to be alone , also he used heal and Braum used Locket , probably if those weren't used , you might have been able to kill him that time
