What is happening with the match making in normals?

I have been playing normals and I noticed, as a Bronze II, I am being matched with silver and gold players. I don't get it. I should be facing bronze players both on my team and the opponent. I admit I suck at the game, which is why I wonder why I am being matched with the higher rank. What is causing this?
