Enchanters: let's find solutions

Big warning ahead, this will be a big post.

I can safely assume that a lot of people, like myself, are getting both tired or tilted of what happens in the support meta right now. Today we are here to find solutions on the enchanters.

Before we begin, for the love of anything that you want, put aside your hate towards Janna, item 3301 and especially item 3504 for now. While they are still a big issue, they are already many, many threads that complaint about them. I want to explain a part that maybe some of you may not have thought. Got it?

The Problem

Aside from the three factors that I mentionned above, I noticed one big factor.

I'm a support main but I always loved disruptors/catchers more than enchanters because of their high risk/high reward playstyle. However when it comes to enchanters, I noticed that their playstyle is either low risk/low reward or low risk/high reward.

Why? Because unlike the other subclass, enchanters have to use a Keystone to make their heals and shields better and they also have to build an item made off item 3114. That means that if you could shut them down in lane, they would take a LONG time to get backinto the game, especially since coin wasn't as good at the time and only item 3303 and it forces you to attack champions if you want income.

Not to mention that most of their gameplay are very simple and way, way too similar. The laning phase against them is either: I'm going to poke you! (Karma Lulu Nami) or I'll wait until someone makes a mistake (Soraka Janna )

Right now however, the enchanters are in low risk/high reward meta obviously, because of the item changes.

Solutions

This is the part when I add solutions, I'll edit if I see a great idea in the comments.

  1. Make their heals and shields skillshots!

This idea that I uh... saw in multiples threads that had something to do with enchanters that was proposed by an user here. And because I know you will say it again, I wanted to get ahead of you and considerate the idea.

For what understand, you want to increase all the overhall skills required to play an enchanter by changing all their heals and shields from point and click into skillshots. If this change goes through, it would indeed does that.

But the problem is that you seem to forgot something...

  • It would not change anything!

Right now, the complaints is that this subclass is glued to the adc. Even if your change would go through, it wouldn't be that much different at all. Not to mention it would be an indirect nerf to assasins, who are constantly on the move in a fight with their blinks. Unless you would make the projectile really fast, but that wouldn't archieve anything either if it can cross half a screen in less than one second. Do you also not expect Riot to buff the abilities because of how inconsistent they would be?

Also, I know you don't play support very often because you play a champion who is very frontline by nature but in a teamfight, where do you think the enchanter is? In the backline of course, and guess who else is in the backline? The ADC of course (and sometimes someone else but let's assume there's not). Now, tell me how much of a difference a skillshot would make with a Kog'maw that stand still and only shoot.

  1. Rework problematic items (item 3107, item 3301, item 3504)

Yes, support items are ''fun'' for only for those who abuse it.

Support items should be helpful little boosts, not game changing items like Redemption or Ardent.

Ardent should definately get a rework, something that is not ''get a free buff with no cd, only tied to your spells cd'' kind of item.

Coin needs to either get nerfed or needs to have a more interactive way to get money, the other 2 force you to do something at least.

Redemption needs to get a rework too, an aoe heal come on. I'm not even sure if Dota 2 has an item like that and we all know how powerful Dota 2's items are. Never understood why you call this item ''Redemption'' when it has no interaction with dead whatsoever.

  1. Rework every single enchanter (Karma should go back to mid lane, and maybe Morg) too.

This is obviously something that should happen at some point. And ** REAL REWORKS** Riot, not half baked like Sona's, please.

An example would be to change their powerbudget. Give more power into other things than their heals and shields (aside from maybe Soraka...), in order to do that of course. We would need to remove Windspeaker, change it with something else while also removing/reworking item 3114.

I already said much, I could maybe soon get makde a few threads for each enchanter, to maybe see if we could get a few ideas for Riot about each enchanter.

Have a good day!

**Making the heals and shields skillshots being an indirect nerf to assassins? **

If they want a heal, just come back to the support. Assassins and divers job is to get in and get out, the only way a support is going to help with that is if their already helping them initiate and prep them for a dive.

As ADCs being the main focus of the healing and since their purpose is stay in the backline, it'd negative the point of making the heals/shields skillshots?

I disagree, there's already abilities that can force a backline to scatter (most AoE abilities ala Brand's ult, Ziggs ult, etc...) that play into the dynamics of a teamfight so heals and shields aren't always guaranteed. Making them skillshots just makes it more difficult and raises the skill-floor for enchanters, which in turn highlight the skill expression for a support.

More shields and heals should be like Lux's W

Making them skillshots could also give more clear or unique niches to enchanter kits in the same way mages are divided. You could categorize enchanters into relatively safe but weak artillery-longrange healers vs stronger but riskier short range heals/shields (battle-mages). Have strong burst shielders that have long cds or shielders that put out weak but short cd shields. Then there's already the AoE shields and heals that could be given stronger identities...

Is it just me or would've Redemption made more sense as a reworked Soraka's ult?

There's a lot of options to play around the concept that could help skill expression if they were more than just point and click abilities.
