@RiotRepertior Since the Urgot rework is coming (as you have teased), can you confirm something?

Bârd··104 votes·18,915 views

I am an Urgot player, and the last thing I want is for Urgot to be relaunched.

He fills a very unique niche.

He isn't like Sion, Poppy, or Yorick before him.

His "Identity Crisis" is more of a publicity thing than anything else.

Urgot is not a marksman; not at all. Urgot is a Tank: but not in the sense of a "damage soaker". Urgot is like an ACTUAL tank. Firing long ranged shit and tearing the enemy a new one, and is durable enough stroll right through the enemy lines, but is normally slow as hell.

Some might argue that his ult doesn't fit with that description, and it doesn't, but it strays from the fantasy in a pretty funny way.

In a teamfight, his ult is like a Tank falling out of the sky to kick ass.

Imagine this: the enemy ADC and support are just casually walking through the jungle, when suddenly...

Urgot "SUP, BITCHES?" https://youtu.be/104tQfcK1sI?t=2m44s

tl;dr I want to know if Urgot is going to retain his status as an M1 Abrams tank with a habit of teleporting on top of people.

Yeah, people think she's ugly because they see only the photoshopped figures of half-naked Morgana and Miss Fortune and accept these unreal body standards. I bet Miss Fortune doesn't have such hips without the photoshop. And they always pick the best photo for the splash. Find MF's instagram photo when she weaks up and you'll be surprised. Ship netbeds ain't comfy for her hair.

Things are still really really early on him, so there is pretty much nothing solidified about him so far.

That said, I don't expect him to turn into Caitlyn.

I think we all know the most important question regarding his VGU...

Can we expect some savage response to Sions Quote?

kasfas2 votes

Do you know anything about skills you plan to keep?

Will he still be ranged?

Are you gonna make him a juggernaut, or is he just the ranged bruiser of league (not including graves {who is a skirmisher})?

Is he still going to be an ugly mess in the visual sense (intentional ugliness)?

Do you want to hear some of the ideas I came up with? :D

Edit: I actually REALLY want to tell someone my ideas, because I think at least some of them are really good. Maybe not for urgot in particular, but possibly useable on some future champion.

XIII Vanitas2 votes

Based on his comments, we're able to understand that they don't know those answers yet. They're probably still trying to figure out what's Urgot's core identity in order to preserve it and mold it into the foundations of the new reworked champion.

I dunno, when I see Urgot the first thing to mind is cop chick with fuzzy handcuffs...

Why do you wish for something like that when the concept of Star Guardian Urgot is already out there?

What Urgot main would want this? Season 4 you got bashed heavily for picking this champ, he already has a joke skin, is considered a big joke by the community, why would you want this skin?

Um, This is an idea that could be turned into a work of ART, IF you can't see the genius behind the idea, then I guess sweetheart Urgot would be cool as well!

I find the champion enjoyable because I appreciate the grotesque and that which causes dread. You simply wish to mesh these two things together for irony's and dichotomy's sake.

"It's funny because they don't go together. I will further call it "art" (when it is the furthest from it) for the same reasons."

Dichotomy begets dichotomy.

Could Urgot be a ranged juggernaut?

Critmaster Garen3 votes

{quoted}

Could Urgot be a ranged juggernaut?

thats a contradiction.

and how would that be fair? unless his q doesnt have more range than illaois tentacles anymore i cant see how that could ever be balanced. the weakness of a ranged champion is to be squishy and get caught out in melee. that includes skillshot dependent champions.

why do you think lux got movement speed nerfs and nerfs to her self shielding? her passive forces her to get into close range to get her full damage potential off.

how would you ever fight a tanky long ranged poke mage?

Samflash33 votes

It's a Contradiction but not in a bad way. Urgod has one of the lowest range but has a lot of survivability in his kit. Deals a lot of damage but is vulnerable to being kited. Isn't known for his tower killing potential.

Also, there's Vlad who flows between the boundaries of mage and juggernaut.

CoronaGulp10 votes

hahaha it's funny cuz you're right on. I'm glad you can visualize and understand a champion.

J Epstein10 votes

I feel bad for urgot mains out there. Urgot is gonna be reworked with a gamebreaking ability and nerf the rest of his kit around that one ability. Then hes gonna be pick or ban for a month. Good luck trying to play urgot after rework without being told everygame "lol, urgot so broken. Try playing a champ that requires skillz". After the month of being OP, riot is gonna nerf that one broken ability in which the rest of his kit was changed and balanced around, leaving him feeling worse than before. Even after the nerfs, people will still think urgot is broken and now fits in the same group of "toxic" champs like riven/ yas/ etc.

Urgot will no longer feel niche after the rework. Enjoy playing him while you still can.

Elikain4 votes

Urgot right now is not a niche at all. He's avoided by the vast majority of players, like Yorick. You can't dispute that his kit doesn't mesh well and that he doesn't fit in any team comp based on a few players who main him like he is right now.

Bârd7 votes
  1. His kit "Meshes" fine. His E, Q, and W have great synnergy. His Ult works in tandem with his passive and W to make him tanky as shit.
  2. He fits into plenty of team compositions. His E-Q is great for poke/seige, and his ultimate is one of the best tools for a pick comp (or just for engage).
Sahn Uzal7 votes

Urgot as a tank... I could see it work. Maybe he could have a melee aa range (because base stats) and have somewhat ranged spells with a disruptive focus? Kinda like Sion or Chogath Who both are disruptive tanks, and both do their job from a reasonable range... I don't think Urgots artillery identity would be an easy one to keep, but he might have an artillery slow that stuns after hitting it X amount of times?

Drahcir2 votes

i think op didn't mean tank, more so juggernaut/artillery.

LoL Ergo Urgot4 votes

I thought of making a post along the lines of Urgot's important abilities. But I will post some thoughts here.

The one ability I believe should stay is his R, Hyper-Kinetic-Position-Reverser. Why?

Please go to where Urgot is on the battlecast link. Notice, he is listed as a SHOCK TROOPER.

http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/skin-release/battlecast-skins

A shock trooper is one who mobilizes very quickly to penetrate the back lines on an enemy formation. Sometimes armour (tanks) would be used to support such an operation.

All it takes is 1 second for an Urgot to expose a weakness in an enemy formation and reek havoc on the backlines. This strategy can be very risky which is perfect for a champion who in former life gave very little thought of his own well being in battle. A true Noxian.

To be candid, Urgot's Q and E were the causation for nerfs and unfair gameplay. Too much range and damage for an ability combo that guarantees too much safety and results if it lands.

**I propose that that Urgot keep his ultimate and some kind of shield. **

Now, how is Urgot different than Sion (this will lead into other parts of his kit, I promise)?

Sion and Urgot are similar in that they were both physical and fearless warriors on the battlegrounds who wouldn't surrender even at the cost of their own life.

They differed starkly in reanimation, however. Sion was captured and cleanly executed while Urgot had suffered years of abuse and then a rather grotesque and sloppy cut that tore him in two.

We see what it took for Sion, some metal fittings, a furnace to enhance his potency, a missing leg sure, but most of him still intact. Thus he can wield his large man-sized axe and crush those like he did in days of old and glory (with some extra benefits).

Urgot on the other hand could not be brought back by necromancy alone. He needed some new body to be fashioned to house the spiteful and resilient spirit of Urgot. In comes Zaun.

And with Urgot being given a new body by Zaun, it only makes sense he would have new tools of destruction.

I feel he should have at least a long range ability and have an auto ranged attack, and the rapid firing of Q is interesting. To me it is far more badass and thematically fitting to think of Urgot as one who will charge in and cause pandemonium.

Furthermore, with a more unifying model, one that causes true discomfort and revulsion, this would be a champion that you would want to keep off your back lines, and he would look the part.

An undead shock trooper, cybernetically enhanced that causes the normal soldier to become weak-kneed praying to which ever gods they do "asking how such an unnameable perversion could be allowed to walk the soil". The wheezing pulp of rotund, carrion flesh, covered in his opponents blood; never stopping, never lamenting his actions, filled with singular purpose, that is, to be a war machine and never let death take that from him again.

His passive should be changed as well. It lacks interaction for both players and is invisible stats.

So his Passive and E, or it's functionality should change. No more damage reduction and lock on missiles.

His voice should be heavily filtered and his model should create a new definition of "unwholesomeness".

TL:DR

P "Zaun..." - Replace

Q "Acid Hunter" - Keep/Tweak (Get rid of the scythe, clashes with high tech theme)

W "Terror Capacitor" - Keep

E "Noxian..." -Replace/Tweak

R "Hyper..." - KEEP!!! (This is one of the most variable, risk/reward/, engaging (for both teams) ability in the game is the reason I love playing him so much).

Critmaster Garen2 votes

ok, heres the problem.

lets not repeat this mistake Graves and make another ranged bruiser with even more range.

ive always seen urgot as an artillery mage, with his own unique quirk that he scales off ad, instead of ap. but like any other artillery mage, he still needs to be relatively squishy and susceptible to getting caught out in melee to offset his ranged poke.

i rather see them rework him into a full on ad caster than pulling another graves on us and making a champion whos a tanky ad carry with range.

honestly, it makes more sense to get rid of his ult as a whole and give him something that synergizes more with the rest of his kit.

Tobias Brackner2 votes

But Bruiser Graves is the biggest waste of his power.

And Urgot looks like a fat metal monster, him being squishy always left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope they make him so building a few tank items on him is the way to go.

But Bruiser Graves is the biggest waste of his power.

its not. its the reason why hes stupid broken. dishes out sustained damage and burst like an adc from range, while being tanky as fuck even when caught out.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

It relies on landing his Q for a big burst combo which means it relies on the opponent fucking up over the player's skill.

And nah, he's not tanky as fuck. Maybe as tanky as anyone else who builds bruiser but it's all going to be from the items instead of what the champion is designed to do.

youre either dellusional or you have no idea what youre talking about.

graves has a better defense steroid than rammus. as long as he keeps kiting and auto attacking, which he will since he can facetank people so easily with lifesteal, he can keep his 120 armor/mr steroid up indefinitely through a fight.

most tanks dont even get as powerful resistance buffs as graves e. not even talking about fighters.

please, try to explain to me how 120 bonus armor/mr with his high base stats, his ability to drain tank and the 12% damage reduction from phantom dancers dont make him tanky as fuck without making me laugh. i dare you.

Bârd8 votes
  1. If his rework makes him play remotely like Graves, then that rework is a complete and utter failure to begin with. A rework that turns Urgot into a bursty marksman is just as bad as if the Garen rework had handed him a first aid kit and turned him into a support.

  2. Well, Urgot is certainly PART artillery, but being AD is not a quirk. His "quirk" is that he doesn't exactly fit into any normal class. Everything is a contradiction. He is a ranged, physical DPS champion, yet is not a marksman. He has artillery, yet likes to dive headlong into the enemy ranks to kill them up close and personal. He is ranged, yet is very durable. He is a walking mess of contradictions, and his playerbase (small as it may be) loves it.

  3. No. Urgot is, has been, and (hopefully) always will be, a tanky-ranged-bruiser-artillery monstrosity.

  4. Yeah, and while we are at it, why not replace Mordekaiser's ult with a movement speed boost? Or replace Nunu's Q with a stun? Those champions both could use those things put somewhere in their kit, and certainly not a single person would get pissed that a core part of what makes their champion unique is being completely removed. /s

If anything was to get changed, I'd say his Passive and E are the best candidates. His passive is strong, but just feels like invisible power. His E by itself feels really weak, but is made strong by its interaction with Q. It really needs to feel like its own spell. If E got changed, Q would be changed by extension, I suppose.

Ranged bruisers CAN be balanced; Urgot, Swain, Teemo (with the mallet build), and Gnar are all ranged bruisers who are at a pretty acceptable power level. Yes, these champions have been problematic in the past, but they have been fixed so that no one would really say they are OP anymore. Even Graves, who is incredibly frustrating to play against, has seen enough nerfs that he is manageable with some coordination.

Ravenhale1 votes

What sort of passive are we wanting though? The current one acts like a Phantom Dancer.

Do we want item dependency? If so, we could run with a passive that scales off bonus AD or even bonus health. Heck, could even have something along the lines of 5% of Bonus Health added to Bonus AD.

Or we could really glass cannon things. Pull a mix of Cassiopeia and Jhin. Urgot does not gain additional health. All bonus health is instead converted to resistances, AD or both.

Bârd5 votes

His current passive is honestly fine. It is very powerful, but it just doesn't feel impactful.

Hell, they might be able to leave its mechanics identical, and just add some more noticeable visuals.

The first passive is mediocre. Not horrible, but Urgot doesn't exactly like to stack HP. The second one is just terrible. Urgot is durable; that is one of his main things. Even though stacking HP isn't his thing, removing his ability to get ANY bonus HP, even if it was compensated with resistances, wouldn't work, since stacking armor/MR gets less powerful the more you get. The moment you locked in Urgot, the enemy would just pick Yi and Irelia, and then you would have no way to deal with them.

PhoenixOfHeaven2 votes

Know what I want now? Make his ult a Buff, kinda like what Ryze used to have. Boost his Armor, AP, and Auto Attack Range.

And then give him a mecha skin, and have him turn into a tank like Sion does.

Sion himself insults Urgot for being outdated. Now we need to make sure he's as dated, maybe even more so, then Sion.

Bârd12 votes

Sorry, but that seems like a serious downgrade.

I am going to assume you meant to say AD, not AP (since that would be a useless buff).

Even with that error fixed, it is a downgrade.

Urgot's ultimate is the most interesting (and most powerful) spell in his entire kit.

At max rank, it gives: An 850 range, 1 second suppression. 5 seconds of 50% damage reduction. A 3 second, 40% slow. A 1.5 second AOE fear. 1 second of no unit collision. Of course, the position swap.

It is an incredible skill that can change the course of a teamfight. It is also great in duels (Unless you are fighting Vayne, Fiora, or Irelia, but meh. Busting through reduction is their thing).

When you can pull it off, it feels great; along the lines of a good Hecarim ult, except this feels great even after the CC is over.

While it wouldn't work on a marksman, it DOES work on Urgot, because Urgot is NOT a marksman.

Removing such an awesome skill for another of something that we have had a lot of (steroids are very common in league) is just bad design.

Also, Battlecast Urgot is close enough to a "Tank" skin that he is unlikely to get one that is explicitly a tank. Maybe he could get a recall animation that looks more like it.

balbraaksel1 votes

Urgot tank can work if he keeps getting item 3071 . If he won't then there are other tanks that are significantly better than him.

Bârd19 votes

I said specifically that he isn't (and shouldn't be) a tank in the sense of a league tank.

He is a "Tank" in the sense of very durable, but rather slow, artillery.

Not a tank like Mundo, a tank like an M1 Abrams (or other actual tank).

this is already a weird statement. because you said not in the sense of a "league tank" but called mundo at the same time a tank, even though hes considered a fighter.

a tank in league is a highly durable melee champion, who has hard engage (usually through mobility), peel, and large amounts of cc to disrupt enemy teams, while dealing little damage.

juggernauts like mundo are a subcategory of fighters. they deal large amounts of damage, while being slow and (almost) as durable as tanks, with little cc or utility otherwise.

The riot given definition of a tank

Focus on being tough and difficult to kill, while usually dealing less damage than other champions. They often have abilities with crowd-control (stuns, slows, etc), and generally have low mobility.

source: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/new-player-guide#/champions/roles?_k=qtyiin

Lets see, the only hard and fast requirement for a "Tank" is a focus on durability. Everything else is listed as "usually", "often", or "generally", indicating exceptions.

In any case, lets see how our favorite Purple hulk fares. Tough? One of the toughest. Unexceptional Damage? Eh, he does a lot for a tank, but pales in comparison to champs like Jinx or Vayne. CC? Not much, just a slow, but it's there. Low mobility? He has a decent movement speed buff, but nothing that screams "Sanic Speeds".

Ok, lets look at how Riot classifies him, just in case.

Oh, look.

riot also specifically introduced juggernauts as a sub category of fighters to seperate them from tanks. the only thing they share in common with them really is that theyre beefy front liners.

http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/gameplay/dev-blog-classes-subclasses

the main difference is, that juggernauts are carries. their objective is it to deal damage.

think of them more like champions like riven or yasuo. only instead of mobility, they have high defenses as their survival mechanism. they usually require the support of their team and actual tanks to initiate for them and help them get into melee range. otherwise they get kited.

mundo is exactly that. he is slow, he is extremely durable and he deals high damage in melee (mainly due to his e).

Garen Darius DrMundo Nasus Yorick Illaoi juggernauts

you can see that most tanks have some sort of mobility tool, and aoe cc to initiate and disrupt the enemy team.

Just FYI, Abrams aren't slow.

If you want him to be more like a tank, he should still have a lot of ranged firepower, but breakdown and break track and become immobile all the time.

I've seen Abrams go over 60 MPH, and even "jump" when one boot took it off a ditch at speed, but they, like all tracked vehicles, tend to break track frequently and become stuck.

Sorry, but every time that I see "slow like a tank" it just bugs me
