PSA to all players who just constantly splitpush no matter what's going on:

Spacesuit Spiff··32 votes·9,836 views

Yes, this is can work, and your team should be pressuring other objectives while 4 people gank you. However, sometimes they can't, and you'll be a lot more successful if you recognize that. If it's midgame and the adc is recalling for whatever reason, no matter how many people you draw top, it won't result in a free tower. If your team just won a 4v3 at dragon because of your splitpushing and has to recall, you need to stop splitting because they can't apply any pressure until they've healed up and gotten lanes pushed again. If your team gets aced and you respawn, immediately TP top, and die 1v5, you can't expect your team to take an objective when they're barely out of the base.

If you do any of these things you'll get ganked 3v1 and die for nothing, and you can't blame your team for not getting anything because there's nothing they could possibly have taken. The game will be 4v5 until you respawn, and if it's lategame, the enemy team will probably take something for free.

An easy way to splitpush properly is to synergize with dragon. Ping your team to dragon and start splitpushing about 20-30 seconds before dragon spawns, so that you'll reach a turret at roughly the same time your team is doing dragon. This will usually result in a free turret or a free dragon. It also goes to say that if you splitpush and die 30 seconds before dragon spawns, the enemy team can get that dragon 5v4.

Also understand that in the first 20 minutes of the game, a champ with waveclear and a support can often defend a tower from 4 people. At that point you probably want to be roaming, not pointlessly dragging 3 people top to kill you.

And if you aren't interested in keeping track of the team and just want to constantly pressure top regardless of what's going on, please at least play champs that can escape when you get ganked, and play champs that actually do damage to towers. Shaco, Trynd, Reksai, Udyr, all good. Ryze, Swain, Blitzcrank... just group and win teamfights.

Saw this multiple times in provisionals and I think it's a shame that nobody really mentions that splitpushing means more than just constantly splitpushing.

I remembered our janna splitpushing bot lane and refusing to leave it the whole game.

I still have nightmares

WhereTheNamesAt3 votes

I think the biggest thing to take away from this is that you should play champs that can take towers.

Do Splitpush with: Jax, Zed, Udyr, Jinx, Master Yi, Tryndamere, Shaco, Nasus

Don't Splitpush with: Ryze, Syndra, Nautilus, Fiddlesticks, Irelia, Maokai, or ANY SUPPORT

dont forget about sivir

Onerios4 votes

Sivir is an interesting one, since while she can push waves rapidly (and towers just by virtue of her build), she is still an adc and a lot of her strength is in her ult. While you can splitpush with her, its probably not a good idea to do so. Sending her off to clear out the result of a slow push however is good, since she spends a very short amount of time doing so, reducing the level of vulnerability to your team. Jinx falls under a similar spot, but worse: she pushes towers faster, but has absolutely no on demand mobility and poor kiting potential, so should almost certainly not be on the list to splitpush with.

WhereTheNamesAt2 votes

I find that jinx would be the best out of all the ad carries to split push with. She destroys towers ridiculously quick and gets a massive speed boost when she does. She is also one of the only ad carries that have hard CC.

Honestly, you should not split pushing all that much as adc because in team fights you are a huge source of damage.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

there are actually a few supports who can split push quite effectively. AP janna and morgona come to mind because the damage they do to turrets is based of AP and they have beautiful disengage. you can't duel an enemy who comes to stop you but you can draw them off of other objectives to deal with you. they sent their top laner to deal with the support, and depending on team comps that can mean a won 4v4 mid lane while you get away for free.

highly situational though.

Knucklefist1 votes

yeah cuz that super farmed nasus q wouldnt be helpful in teamfights at all. Its much smarter for him to split push and just get ganked from behind, instead of tanking and soaking up damage like his character is designed for. Mofo farms for 30 minutes just to possibly knock down a few turrets late game. I hate having Nasus as a teammate half of the time. and Yi for that matter

WhereTheNamesAt1 votes

Then you don't know anything about split pushing…the idea behind it is to remove pressure and possibly even take more objectives than the other team. Late game Nasus with 500+ Q stacks can 3 shot towers quite easily and he pushes really fast. If Nasus is splitpushing than that means that the enemy team has to decide if they want to take one guy and move him to top lane to stop nasus or if they want to take 3 guys and kill him. If they take 3 guys to kill Nasus than his 4 other teammates should be pushing mid or another lane. Or if they decide to not deal with Nasus at all he can more then likely get an important objective. I do agree that Nasus should also team fight when it is necessary to and not just stay top lane.

Part of me feels like you completely misunderstood this post...

Irelia is a splitpusher

LankPants1 votes

Irelia can spilt only if her TP is up. Most teams with an Irelia rely on her to either engage a team fight or lockdown/burst a key target. She's incredibly strong in teamfights due to her mini Olaf ult running all the time.

She can split with some success but she generally takes hours to actually kill a tower. On the flip side she's good at pushing waves into a tower and good at dueling a single enemy but sometimes struggles to escape multiple enemies.

While Irelia can splitpush with successful results and saying never to split with her is wrong she also isn't a pure split pusher and is generally outclassed at that role by champs like Yi/Zed/Nasus while outclassing all of them in teamfights.

Irelia is a splitpusher

She's a late/mid game duelist so sometimes she'll pressure top but objectively, only has sheen proc for extra damage on top of low damage builds (Tri and Bork at most) so her tower taking is pretty weak. 9/10 games you're better off grouping with Irelia.

Gorsz3 votes

Its really annoying when you can win a game easily by grouping up, and you have some bozo who just wants to 24/7 split push the entire game even when its not the best course of action.

Spear PhanXao2 votes

Why does this happen to me more and more everyday? It feels like I have to tell certain players I will constantly see pushing the same lane(Lets say Teemo who started top, didn't move top lane ALL GAME) Then he said he was doing good split push and got ganked everytime.. How is this concept not obvious to people? Split pushing WILL NOT always work.

Seems like everyday I get 1-2 people that just refuse to play as a team, you see them in 0 team fights and pushing lane all game. /win

junglerboy162 votes

The key is knowing when it is best to split push. If my team literally refuses to communicate (no chat, no pings, won't just group on their own), I will split push for the whole game, because it is the only option for winning. If I am playing someone as a TP top laner, I will split push, but I will always be ready to drop in on a fight or run immediately as soon as there is a threat. If I'm super fed and ahead as a carry, I will take objectives and be opportunistic. Bot is getting pushed in? shove it out, rush down their tower, and then GTFO before anyone notices I was there. If I am playing a dedicated split pusher/duelist (Trundle FTW!), I will keep pushing the same lane until I get inhib, then I will move to the next lane, and then the next until I have completely killed the whole map, because that is what my champ does.

Split push is working? ALL MID NAO, REPORT X PERSON FOR NOT LISTENING

Split push not working? Mostly because team is sitting in jungle clearing or doing nothing the majority of the time and trying to team fight 4v5.

Just pushed wave to nexus turrets? Time to dive turrets.

Lanes getting pushed to top and bot? ALL MID

Dragon? What's that?

Baron? We only have two people up? Let's do it!

Buy trinket,

Never us it.

Basically all of these things you'd expect in low elo.

And this is the reason your thread is pointless OP.

9/10 the kids that mindlessly splitpush no matter what are also incredibly toxic. You can ask them nicely to stop suiciding top over and over and group, but they will just immediately insult you, called you bad and insist that you try to take an objective.

You cannot reason with twits like this.

Ryu the first4 votes

maybe you being there would win the fights? Just saying, last provisional I played I had a Corki adc that did nothing but splitpush top. He would die and go straight back up, never grouped for ANYTHING, and to top it all off, we could have used him. He did crazy damage but since he was never with us we couldn't take anything as the enemy team was a better teamfight comp with multiple tanks and initiators. We never stood a chance without him and he never came. So please, realize that sometimes teams are forced to fight, and if they are down a member due to a splitpush, it is the splitpusher's fault.

Champion Skin1 votes

Well I guess you could have grouped with him I guess... but yeah...

Ryu the first1 votes

The thing was that we didn't have a teamfight comp, and corki was the majority of our damage. Also mid lane was closer to inhibitor at that point, so it was better to poke down the enemy and then get it, rather than waste time top where there are less escapes.

Yes, we're totally going to win a team fight when they have a much stronger teamfighting comp and I cannot teamfight.

Ryu the first1 votes

sorry, badly phrased. What I mean is that no matter the comp if you're up against a teamfight comp and all of you aren't there it can lead to trouble if they have initiators.

Trouble as in getting caught cuz you felt like farming mid 2 down towers up? Seriously with the new laser and gates in the base it is very easy to hold 4v5, just try playing along with the splitpushers for once, it's better than both of you fighting and neither plan getting executed. With splitpushing there is always the possibility of winning but not with teamfights, sometimes they have better comps (overall not just over the splitpusher) nearly guaranteed to win and other times you are just too far behind to win.

Ryu the first1 votes

No, trouble as in farming under OUR turrets, while they have multiple initiators and multiple assassins. They lot nothing by killing him, and gained a lot.

AFK Push2 votes

I swear this is every Nasus and Tryndamere player in low ELO. When you ask them why they are still splitpushing, when they would be of more assistance to the team in a teamfight (especially since they almost always have tp anyways), they always respond with "I can't teamfight." Any champ can teamfight, especially the superfarmed overleveled 400 stack Nasus.

I generally agree with your post but the opposite is true that teams need to know when its working and they should just sustain a lane push.

Yeah absolutely. The reason I never attempt to splitpush in gold/silver is that nobody knows how to do a headcount and your team WILL try to make plays 4v5 before you've pushed far enough to apply any actual pressure. And if you have a blitzcrank, just forget any ideas you might have had about leaving him alone for even ten seconds (people say getting to diamond is hard, that's nothing compared to convincing a silver blitz that he shouldn't just blindly hook everything he sees, even if he's alone in the enemy jungle like they often are for no reason. I just saw one pull the enemy udyr over the dragon wall when we were taking it and our jungler was dead, guess how that went /rant)

And when they die and you dont take a turret or baron or dragon You get bitched at and deserve every ounce of bitching for not 3v4ing and taking a turret or something else.

It goes both ways espically in solo queue with the amount of stupidity thats possible. We've all had our fair share both ways.

Mediocre Joe1 votes

look if split push is working then just get together as 4 and play safe don't engage just wave clear. learn when to pressure and when not to if they send 2 people top you need to engage 4v3. learn how to work with a split push. trying to fight a 4v5 then blaming the top laner is not how you play this game.

Grand Eleven1 votes

Here's the thing: at silver and below it's more effective than trying to work with your team almost 100% of the time ...

... makes it a hard practice to break once you get to Gold ...

Knucklefist1 votes

Not really. I've lost more games because of the stupid nasus, trynd, yi than I've won. People get these characters and immediately start the game with the "I'm gonna farm until I can carry attitude". Or "I'm gonna backdoor us to victory". Peoples logic is astounding. They say bronze people are bad, so its smarter to make them fight 4 against 5 while you push without a care in the world? Mofos have 400 farm by the end of the game, 5 assists, and a big fat DEFEAT in postgame lobby.

Orangesilk1 votes

It really depends on the enemy composition though and this is something most people don't take into account. If their team has fantastic chase potential, like say, Janna, Trynd or Elise, I don't wanna splitpush EVER, unless I'm packing like 3 wards and even then. If their team is looking like they don't stand a chance to ever catch me, I'm happy to TELL MY TEAM I'M PLANING TO SPLIT, and then split.

Ok, I am often one of these splitpushers people get pissed off at. I'm the strongest or second strongest player every game and like to group, but sometimes even thoh you're ahead your team comp will just lose. Many times my team gets pissed saying "group and win" or "JUST GROUP WE ARE AHEAD", things aren't simple like that. I played 2k ranked games last season and watched a lot of League content... You aren't guaranteed to win teamfights under any circumstances and honestly even a decently executed splitpush is easier to win with than awesome teamfighting, this is because teamfights comes down to individual skill as well as champ picks while splitpushing is largely a strategic thing. But yeah that's my defense of splitpushing, thing is some people are below avg skill compared to their elo so anything they do will be bad teamfighting/splitpushing/picks so...

Knucklefist1 votes

yeah cuz freefarming a lane while the rest of your team gets rekt repeatedly is an easy win. I lose more games because of people like you than I win. If you are top, mid, jungler, whatever....if there are 5 people mid and the 4 people clearly cant hold them off, you need to stop split pushing and help them. Thats what ruins games. One person decides they know whats best and completely ignores everyone elses situation. Its usually the most fed person on the team who goes to split push. Effectively subtracting most of the damage from our team fight potential. The hero who tried to win the game alone has turned into the idiot who cost us the game 95% of the time when this strategy is employed.

Win the game alone.... You're an idiot, the splitpushers know they need their team just as much as anyone else. Need them to play safe and hold, ofc splitpushing won't work if the team plays like they don't have one and get caught. It is extremely easy to hold 4v5 in base. Somewhere around 2/5 of my splitpushing games last season led to my team getting kills and globals getting back in it to come out on top. Those 2/5 teams that were behind (when I resorted to splitpushing) played safe and put the enemy team in that bad spot where they have to try and dive (failing) or send multiple members to deal with me so my team wins a fight outnumbering them. Another 1/5 of the time I splitpush just so that my team doesn't throw, because we are ahead but have crappy mid game or teamfighting we just need to stall the game out while not giving up the lead. The other 2/5 games I get idiots like you who think grouping magically guarantees a won fight (which is retarded, because the other team is also grouping) and play stupid ignoring the reality of the splitpush being out of their hands or losing just to spite them. (Which is like shitting your pants to get at somebody else, everyone loses but you are the worse off in the end)
