ive never spent money on league. if riot added this though, i definitely would
i call the idea "paid ranked". i can explain it pretty fast (maybe). heres how it would work
-
at first i was thinking maybe make new premium "paid ranked" servers for east and west coast, to support a paid ranked playerbase to give players lower ping since they are paying money. however i realized nah, dont have to do that, since faker could get rank1 NA with 120ping anyway, so i still think the ping isnt too high to prevent skill from winning over "better ping". and i think having the ranked servers be large and big with a huge playerbase, would increase the popularity / fun of it and would be overall a better system. so basically, no new servers would have to be created, and riot can just keep the current server locations they have
-
heres how the system would work. riot would keep the free ranked ladder . however would also add a premium "paid ranked" ladder . it would cost 30 dollars a month to have access to the paid ranked ladder (paid in dollars, not riot points)
-
at the start of every month, a player would get 15 "cash tokens" on his account (representing 1 dollar each) and riot keeps the other 15 dollars
-
whenever someone plays a paid ranked game, he risks 50% of his money (rounded UP to nearest dollar) . each player from both teams puts 50% of their money into a victors-pot. the winning team wins the entire pool and splits it equally. with any extra penny being given to the person with the lowest money on the winning team
-
the MMR system would not include players cash amounts in the calculation for matchmaking. the matchmaking system teambuilder would be complete-the-same as the MMR system riot has has now in the current ranked ladder, and simply the cash system would be something that exists outside of it where each team risks half of their money and puts it into a victors-pot. which would mean its totally possible in challenger games for 1 team to come in with 1000 dollars while the other team only has 200 dollars. and this is totally fine in my opinion, the chances of striking it rich one month is what makes this system super fun IMO.
-
at the end of each month. servers would shut down and everyones cash tokens would be turned into "victory tokens" and added to your account. (1 cash token = 1 victory token. rounded down. in whole dollars only. any pennies you have stays as cash tokens) people can cash-out victory tokens once they have over 100, or use them to pay for extra months (since 1 token equals 1 dollar)
after this happens. if you paid for another month, then you would gain another 15 cash tokens (and riot would take the other 15 for themself) . plus any leftover pennies (cash token fractions) you had would get added to that 15 cash tokens you have for the new month.
-
victory tokens would not get risked when you play ranked games. they are the rewards a player gets if they did well in a month and made money
-
i believe, since this is technically a gigantic massive monthly paid skill-based tournament (and not "gambling" ) riot wouldnt really need to worry about any legal gambling laws, or child labor laws. and instead, i say, riot could simply implement the system, and let people cash out without even bothering to get any tax-information (just say, its up to the people cashing out to pay taxes on the money, and riot isnt legally responsible to force you to pay your own taxes) and i bet the government would never try to "regulate it" or take legal action against this new system, since the truth is kids would only be spending 30 dollars a month of their parents money on their "habit" which "hurts no one" and i bet the government officials wouldnt care once they see this system is nothing but harmless fun
-
due to the nature of how my system is set up, it pretty much means every month all the money would "funnel up" to the challenger / master players. since there is no "fairness system" to prevent all the money from being gobbled up by the higher ranked players who win more than they lose. HOWEVER I BELIEVE THIS IS TOTALLY FINE. BECAUSE. ITS NOT ACTUALLY THE CHANCE OF MAKING MONEY THAT MAKES THIS SYSTEM FUN. ITS THE FACT THAT YOU CAN PAY MONEY TO HAVE ACCESS TO A PREMIUM LEAGUE WITH GAMES THAT WOULD "FEEL" MORE IMPORTANT. THE REASON WE PLAY LEAGUE IS FOR THE PLEASURE OF THE GAME, WHEN THE GAME "FEELS" MORE IMPORTANT, ITS MORE FUN. SO THAT WOULD BE THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS SYSTEM. ALMOST EVERYONE WOULD LOSE MONEY FROM THIS SYSTEM, AND ONLY THE HIGHEST RANKED PLAYERS WOULD MAKE MONEY, BUT I BELIEVE THAT IS TOTALLY FINE, BECAUSE THE POINT IS BEING ABLE TO "PAY MONEY" TO "EXPERIENCE PLEASURE" , AND A COST OF 30 DOLLARS A MONTH IS VERY SMALL TO PAY FOR A GAME EXPERIENCE THAT FEELS 5X AS FUN AS CURRENT LEAGUE
oops i realize i shouldnt have caps locked so much. im too lazy to change it to lower case. fuck it who cares
anyone like my idea?
- oh also. in paid ranked. all champs would be available to all players even if you dont own them all. but riot can also keep the system of "buying champs" in non-paid ranked. no need to remove it, who cares. oh also, why not, riot could make it so if your account has "paid ranked active" (for the current month), then you would also gain access to any champs you dont own even when you play normals / nonpaid-ranked
EDIT: i forgot these
-
when you duo queue. both duos would risk 60% of their money and put that amount into the victors-pot . 3+ queue is not allowed, only solo/duo
-
your allowed to play on the paid ranked ladder, even if you have 0 cash tokens (but your account most be paid-ranked-active for that month) . you risk zero money (and put zero into the victors-pot if you have less than 1 dollar) . however you will still win your enemies money (if they have some to risk) even if you risked zero . all teams put what they risk into the victors-pot, and the winning team takes it and splits it
