If you would like to downvote the post, please tell me in the comment section why, maybe i got something wrong, after all it's just my opinion. Maybe you had a different experience, different games, you are a Riven main, etc. This forum is about discussion, not pointless hate after all.

I've always liked seeing Riven hate threads because they always come up with a silly reason of her being slightly overpowered, or flat out broken.

But this has gone too far.

A Riven hate thread reaching and topping the front page is something i never dared to imagine.

Some information about me before some type "riven main so much bias" in the comment section:

I am a Darius/Gnar/Sion main.

I played Riven twice in the 4 years i've been playing, i lost both games.

I face riven on top in 5-10% of the games i play.

I am one hundred percent sure that Riven is not op in any way, shape or form. There are ways to counter Riven. There are ways to defeat her with ease.

Let's start with the simplest of advices:

1. Don't give her a kill.

Undoubtedly, the biggest strength of Riven is snowballing. She gets a kill, and she can literally do anything with you, it doesn't really matter what champion are you playing. But Riven relies heavily on AD. If she has no gold from kills, she cannot buy that many items, and she has a relatively weaker shield, weaker passive, weaker q and w and ult. Also, Riven needs tempo. Getting a kill and then playing safe or buying safe is not an option. You might want to ask your jungler or midlaner for help.

2. Counterbuild her.

Mechanically, there are very little ways to counter Riven, but building against her is a piece of cake. First thing you may want to buy is a cloth armor with 5 health potions. If you buy this, you don't have to worry about getting killed until level 6. Majority of the rivens i (or you) face buys long sword + 3 pots and takes ignite. If that is her starting build, you can outsustain her and because she has a low hp regen you can survive with any other champion. After that, you have to buy something along the lines of hp+armor. (mostly because she can rush a last whisper and screw you up, but if she wants to take 35% armor pen, she can't take more than 40 damage.) In my opinion sunfire cape is the perfect choice, but if you want to, you can take a randuins.

3. Bait her ult or/and ignite.

Many Rivens are thirsty as heck and they may miscalculate things and blow a pointless ult or an ignite on you. If you know for a fact that she doesn't have ult or/and ignite up, you can try to trade with her.

4. Counterpick her.

These are all champions that have the potential to utterly, completely destroy Riven even in lane. Just buy cloth + 5 pots and you're going to be all right.

Despite all this, i agree that the snowballing potential in Riven is beyond stupid.

Riot should change her to have a more medium risk / medium reward lane, and generally a less unstable midgame.

Because with Riven you either win the lane and carry everyone, or you lose your lane and you become a slightly mobile minion.

But that's just my experience.

Her kit's overloaded, instead of being a "Jack of all trades" champion, Riven is a "master of all trades." She's -mobile -very bursty -very tanky (AD Shield ;-;) -has CC -no resource bar

Riven is a champ that turns every lane into a skill matchup - even against champs who's kits hard counter her its possible for her to make plays and do something if she has better mechanics and decision making than her opponents.

She will always draw hate for a variety of reasons - many of which have little to do with her viability or state of balance. Even just the fact that she is a champ that takes effort and mechanics to use will cause some people to hate her on sight because they get offended at 'try hards' like the idea that someone might be putting more effort and practice into a video game than them offends them on a deep level. It doesn't even matter if the riven player feeds and is useless, these kind of people get such a visceral hate-on against her that the revel in the suffering of someone who dared to pick her.

Similar rage inducing champs include teemo, leesin, zed, leblanc, etc. Basically anyone who can be at all flashy or force you to not go mentally afk when you're in lane and expect to win.

You made the mistake of not telling Riven mains that you hope they die of cancer, enjoy your downvotes, I guess.

It's sad really that an entire section of the player base has to deal with this shit constantly, and worse that Riot condones it.

There's probably a reason Riven gets so much hate. You even say it yourself. 'If she gets one kill, it's game over. Even if she doesn't get any kills, if you don't outplay her hard and force her to constantly waste her 50 CD huge AD steroid/AOE execute then you're going to get fucked anyway.

"Naw guys, she isn't broken. You just can't fight her at any point in the game without causing her to spiral out of control!"

A problem with her kit is she has no resource she has to worry about while still having a very powerful shield that can be spammed and a lot of hard CC to lock people down between her shield being down. That coupled with her very high damage makes her quite powerful. If they added a resource to her kit, it would force Riven players to not spam their abilities and be more susceptible to being poked down.

That alone may be enough, but to be complete, he are some other things I see in her kit that is a bit overtuned and a bit bloated.

Her shield should not be 100% bonus AD. She has good base strength for her shield and the 1.0 bonus AD ratio makes it very hard to focus her down in a fight, even when she is not directly engaging you .

Remove one of her hard CCs. By removing one of her hard CCs, players would be able to make use of the downtime between her shield and be able to take her down if she misplays. This should be replaced with a soft CC.

The last thing is simply how potent AD is in her kit. All of her abilities have at least a 1.0 AD ratio if you are using them correctly, with one going as high as 2.1. If the sustain and resourceless of her kit is not addressed, that would be the other area I would recommend looking into, though would nerf the core of her kit instead of the secondary parts of it.

Not all of these should be applied to her kit at once, but only one or two. She is defined as being a powerful assassin fighter, I say keep those strengths while reducing her longevity in a fight.
