Gna-R-

So... I'm pretty sure a ton of people have the same grief with Gnar, while tons see he has some pretty awesome potential, the fact that his transformation can't be triggered drives everyone up the wall. OR, everyone has the situation where they're in a teamfight and say, "Man.. I would love to use my Ult right now," but can't... at all...

....So....

**TL;DR Why can't Gnar's R transform him if his rage is maxed? **

Simply.. Lvl 1, has 1 Rank in 'R' to simply change him if he has the rage to do it. Lvl6 and the levels after go towards the normal function of 'R'.

How is that possible? Same thing with Twisted Fate's Destiny and Gate. Press one to enter the mode, then Press it once more to activate "Gnar!"

I still think attacks should build rage, and it should deteriorate as well.. Heck, given it can then be activated, I would even agree with rage deteriorating a little faster than it currently does.

Believe it or not, there's more counterplay when he has to use an ability/wait to transform than if he can just do it on command.

If his rage is maxed, using any of his skills transforms him already. If he has max range and is past 6, he can already use R to transform.

Like Lord Dusteon said, if you're in the 'about to transform' state (Gnar looks really red, some weird energy tornado thing around him, screen maybe changing colors), if you activate any of his abilities, he'll change immediately and use the mega form of that ability, instead of having to wait for a few seconds before changing.

In fact, special mention goes to his Hop/Crunch ability, which if you use that ability to transform, it'll perform a hybrid of the two moves: You get to bounce off a unit with Hop, but you also get the AoE damage of Crunch. (Notice how the icon turns light blue when you're about to change?)

The way I understand it: Gnar WILL transform at 100 rage either way, no matter what, but the short delay in transforming on hitting 100 rage can be thought of as giving him a window to decide how he'll 'make his entrance' with his abilities, so to speak.

EDIT: Although, if you're referring to any sort of "Gnar can press this button to transform whenever he wants, regardless of how high his rage is" kind of thing, then no, never, Gnar was designed and balanced around not having total control of when he changes form.

What I actually meant was that Press R once, you transform if you have 100 Rage.

Press R again, and you use "Gnar!" Why not? The ability can only be used if you are Mega-Gnar.

Mega Gnar just being active when you are at 100% is a bit too situational. Your team needs a tank to engage and you're twiddling your thumbs because you don't have the rage, or you're farming and about to shift, so you're twiddling your thumbs trying not to shift just yet while your opponent is just farming (mostly because they know they have too much health to make you attacking them not successful/worthwhile).

*These are scenarios that WILL happen when you play Gnar, and more than a few times too. *

If Other Poster Responds: That would be too OP.

*Response: *In comparison to what?

I agree with OP completely. The current transformation's are just too unpredictable to be really viable when other champions i.e. shyvana can do much of what gnar can do without the randomness.

Don't get me wrong, I like Gnar's game play. The boomerang is fun to play with, the rage concept is pretty cool... Just... I think it could be done better.

Right now, I think Gnar stands on being useful in situations. He can either add a lot to a team fight, or close to nothing.

The only warning I could see to allowing him to transform by pressing R with full rage is then he can probably get away with being a decent ADC choice. Which then means the moment he can transform he can effectively get the jump and destroy the other ADC/Supp. Before you complain about that though, isn't psyching out the other player what playing ADC is all about in the first place? Keeping them on their toes and making them fear just one small slip up.
