No autofill doesn't mean 'oh 1 minute longer queue times no problem'
If you remove autofill before fixing supports, you do two things:
- Secondary supports and fill will be confirmed support, not 80% support or 90% support, 100%. And this is something people used to complain about, though I was fine with it myself.
- Queue times won't 'just be longer'. In bronze, where the queue times are shortest, there will be times where people will say, "Oh I can't play ranked today. Oh well".
Why? Because support is played by less than 1/5th of the player base and whenever a support, fill or a player with any of these in the secondary slot comes by, they'll get a literal 0-5 second queue time to be matched up with people who have had the queue up for 12+ hours.
It's not just 1 minute tacked onto your queue times. Believe it or not, the queue times you are waiting are actually because no one of a certain role has come by yet. The system isn't spending all that time calculating MMR, (or, if you're really dense, sequentially going by each combination of players until they happen to match the top-jungle-mid-support-adc order), that only takes at worst 15 seconds or Riot's queue algorithm is inefficient as hell and they haven't reworked it for some odd reason despite their recent emphasis on queue health.
If supports were fine, autofill, even if it were always on, would be barely seen in use (and would probably be used for other roles very often). This isn't the case.
The problem is support as a role, not autofill.
So either ask Riot about support as a role, or change your thread titles from, "I'm willing to wait an extra minute to not get autofilled" to, "I'm willing to wait 48 hours to not get autofilled".
