@Riot armor and Magic resist diversity for season 5?

So im confused i just read the preseason 2015 forging a diverse armory and was quite shocked when i read this.

"To smooth this out, we’re changing Chain Vest to build out of Cloth Armor and removed Negatron Cloak from the game (replacing it with Null Magic Mantles earlier in item build paths). This makes the “I need Armor NOW” case much cleaner, no matter what final item you’re aiming for with minimal loss of depth in the decision making."

It doesn't make sense you're making it so cloth builds into chainvest to add diversity but are removing negatron cloak instead of just doing the same thing. you are effectivly reducing diversity by doing this if i want a decent bit of magic resist i have to buy 2 null magic mantles or finish my magic resist item i can no longer sit on a negatron cloak for 15-20 minutes for the solid MR then finish the build later.

unless i am misunderstanding what you mean by "removed negatron cloak" i don't seem to understand. if you are removing the cloak all i can gather from this is that you guys thought it was a great idea got done with the armor bit but was like "oh shit we are running out of time lets make up some bullshit for the MR section so we can get this shit out the door." is what im getting from it.

so please rito, elaborate.

A) Don't bump. It is of exactly zero use in this forum.

B) Magic damage is way easier to counter by building a bit of MR and a bit of HP, instead of a huge helping of MR. This is due to most magic damage coming in large bursts with a downtime afterwards.

not really its much easier to build armor than MR avoid staff completely destroys all MR compared to LW destroying armor so you need the early strong burst of MR for early.

The item 1033 and item 1057 aren't "diverse" items anyway, they give the exact same stat but in different quantities and for different prices. This change helps diversify what final items you can build into when you bought that early Null Magic Mantle.

So then why not get rid of item 1031 according to your logic it item 1029 and item 1031 aren't "diverse" items they literaly fill the same exact roles as the others just opposite defensives.

It's likely that they're experimenting with balance. Depending on how it goes Negatron Cloak will either be added back in or Chain Vest will be dropped, or it could stay as is if they think that the AD and AP tech trees are different enough.

The advantage of having the Chain Vest/Negatron Cloak upgrade from the Cloth Armor/Null Magic Mantle is that you can slowly beef up your resistance for not much more gold as you go. This is good for the defender, but not so great for the attacker. Having Cloth Armor/Null Magic Mantle build directly into a larger item means that you'll have to spend more to get your better resistance item, delaying it. This is bad for the defenders, but better for the attackers.

There will probably be a mid tier MR+HP item that builds out of ruby crystal and null magic mantle, kinda like Spectre's Cowl. Or maybe they'll just make current mid tier MR items cheaper and make the high tier items build out of multiple mantles, kinda like what they did with mana regen items when they removed meki pendant.
