Cait Traps Under Your Tower Are Unfair, Adding Counter Play

SnakDatSmilesBak··4 votes·602 views

She drops a trap under my tower while she's pushing with a support that can keep her safe or can help zone. For the next 90 seconds I can't see under my own tower the area that I have to avoid. This is not fun. I want to play the game, not sit literally behind my tower in a 2v2 for 90 seconds at a time. It's either that or risk getting chunked. If I can see the trap I could move past it carefully, but since I can't I have to avoid all of the area where it could be. This makes it way too easy for cait to hit skillshots because she already knows where I have to walk, and it's a narrow path.

There's just very little counter play when the traps are invisible. Sure, if they're in a bush I can ward the bush and step carefully. But there's no way to know where it is when it's under my tower. Just make them visible to allow the counter play to be "step carefully."

Edit: guys invisible means it can't be seen

As a Cait main, I endorse this. I exploit it, but understand the frustration. Traps near towers need to either have their duration reduced significantly, or the enemy team needs to be able to see them "through" the tower.

Imo cait traps should behave similarly to azir soldiers under tower and have a massively reduced duration when placed there.

Here we go. Here's one possible solution. This way it's not 90 seconds of oppression and has meaningful windows for counter play.

That's the whole point of Caitlyn. You could just play around it.

how?

dude dont get pushed in... push the wave back. learn how to position better. if she shoves that hard have the jungler gank her cuz she is so far pushed.

if you see caitlyn picked pick champs that beat her or her traps Ezreal Sivir

I can push the wave all I want, but as a melee support there's only so much I can do to push if my adc would rather sit back and let me eat autos for free. And on that note, it's not easy to outpush a caitlyn because her range makes it so you will take an auto or two whenever you walk up to hit minions.

Relying on a jungler doesn't work. Junglers often don't gank lanes that are pushed up. I'd say there's probably 1 in 2 times where the enemy is pushing from start and the jungle ignores the lane until the tower falls.

I just want a little bit of personal counter play, a little way that I can use my own skill to out play one skill in her kit. What's the harm in letting cait traps be visible behind a turret? I don't actually see any other than it makes cait a little bit weaker.

Honestly, I'm used to playing melee supports against caitlyn. I'll probably be ok in lane. But when we're pushed to our tower, which is likely to happen against cait, and she traps under my tower I'm stuck standing behind it because it's the only safe place to be for the next 90 seconds until those traps disarm. It's 90 whole seconds of oppression at a time. However, if I can see the trap, then I can move around it! The trap still functions and I am now free to move past my tower.

well if you are a melee support vs cait... chances are u are a tank and have armor and relic shield ?

and if you are a leona, or another champ that has a self shield ... use your shield step on the damn thing and take the damage to clear it... with your tankyness and shield plus relic shield she wont kill from a head shot

Ok, so let me see the trap so I can step on it. What's the counter play if I can't see the trap? That's what this is about. The counter play is stay away for 90 seconds.

Also sometimes I don't have mana/hp to spare for tanking heqdshots early in lane phase.

While true, certain skins make her traps harder to see than others.

Ok then how come there's an area under blue side turret where if you put traps, you can't see it? Come on man read carefully, I'm talking about traps under a tower that are hidden from view bc of POV.

Jesus man, it's like you didn't even read the title!

While I understand you may favor melee supports, (In this case it seems you really enjoy Yorick) you may want to learn a few ranged/AP supports for such occasions. Zyra is very good at taking control of a lane, as are other poke supports like Karma, Velkoz, Lux, or Fiddle. Even Sona if played aggressively can shove back if both you are your lane partner's positioning is done right.

Yorick can shove as hard as or hardaer than any of the champs you named, shoving is not the problem. The problem is her traps are unable to be seen when she puts them underneath a tower. And fyi, there are other supports i can play besides yorick.

I'll take your word on his shoving since I have little experience with him, though Zyra definitely would remain on par with him. She's a massive lane dominant support as well as bully. I also never stated you couldn't play others, I just noted favored him as well as your stated fact of melee supports.

I've definitely experienced being shoved in and had to maneuver around the traps, but i've not had issues with visibility. I recognize what you're stating as a problem however. I approve of the suggested solutions talked about in the thread.

So you're saying because some supports can outpush a cait, it's ok that her traps that last 90 seconds arent able to be seen under towers?

No, that was not what I was saying. I was trying to give solutions for now. If you'll reread my second paragraph it might help.

No worries. Hopefully that cleared it up for you.

I usually go between two traps because people usually don't space them exactly one after another.

If you are diving a cait and get trapped, your fault. Traps take time to actually activate when placed. It's about as 'broken' (?) as a snare under a tower.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

Read carefully man I'm specifically talking about the interaction where cait can hide traps under a tower.

When are traps invisible under a tower if they are not invisible traps to begin with?

You can zone and damage stuff you know.

SnakDatSmilesBak1 votes

Yes I know that. However one of the ways cait does that isn't fun to play against. It's either you get chunked or you avoid the area under your tower where you can't see the ground. Making it visible gives counter play, while keeping the function of her trap the same as everywhere else on the map.

I think cait's early game should be nerfed and her late game buffed to compensate for it. This way with her traps and her good early laning phase, she won't be such a pain in ***.

Huge reason I permaban cait.
