My Reaction to the Crusade Against "KYS"

One time I was playing lol.

I was having a bad game. Then 10 minutes into the game I got a call from a nurse, "Are you ready for your surgery?" I had a big surgery coming up; the date and time of the surgery was moved forward without my knowledge. It was supposed to be tomorrow afternoon, but then it was that morning. I told my team there's an emergency and that I have to go. 4/5 teammates told me to kill myself.

I was nervous, stressed, and scared already. I didn't listen to my teammates but they made me mad. So mad I made a rant on boards that got taken down in about 2 minutes. I cussed them out; I told them to kill themselves.

All the things going through my head at that moment didn't compare to what goes through the mind of someone suicidal when they read "kys." They're stressed and scared, and they're not thinking straight. I was angry because of what had happened in my real life. Someone else may be even worse off, because of what happened in their life.

Hopefully this reaches people who say things like "kys," and forces them to consider this.

Can you please answer me this? What compels you to take what internet strangers say to you seriously? They don't even know you, why does it matter? Literally everything they say is out of frustration over a game if it's negative, not you personally (unless you're being an asshole on purpose, which shows your true character). Do you ever consider that? Or do you always take everything personally? If you have anxiety/ptsd problems why don't you just /mute all immediately? Sorry but expecting Riot to ban every form of toxicity before it happens is ridiculous, and it's just a statistical fact that you will be told to kill yourself on this game no matter what you do. They're gonna get banned pretty much instantly for telling someone to kill themselves, so there's really no problem with the IFS.

They're trying to solve behaviour with the new honour system that's coming out. But there's no guarantee that even with that, everyone will stay cool. It's also likely that the attempt fails after only a few weeks of being active like the last one did.

The people who tell others to kill themselves are unlikely to care about any request for them to not do so. They should already know that it's incredibly rude, but they are doing it anyway. Which is why it's one of the phrases that often nets a punishment escalation.
