If supports are in a good place right now...
Why does RIOT have to force people to play the role?
Why does RIOT have to force people to play the role?
Most people prefer to rack up killstreaks and get lots of praise for making plays or be invincible tanks. This is not a secret and is not unique to League; supportive/utility/healing roles have always been the least popular since the standard RPG party had such a thing.
No, people like to have an impact on the game, and RIOT has kept supports down so much, that a freaking TANK has the highest winrate of the role!
That's the thing supports have an impact, but most people are too blind to look beyond the numbers to see it...
Supports absolutely do have an impact, it simply isn't so blatantly obvious as getting multikills and dealing tons of damage (for the traditional support). If you feel you don't do much as a Support, you probably don't.
Because there's no Penta-Assist, God-Like Vision, or Legendary Save announcement...
Simply put, people cannot feed their ego in that role.
Because people want kills, not assists. Why else would people in other roles lean towards damage-oriented champions when there are plenty of tanks that are strong?
That is incorrect. People lean towards damage-oriented champions because they can influence the game without being dependent on the team. Tanks don't carry outside of particular metas.
People have terrible attitude towards their supports. Most of the ADCs are toxic. Also many supports can't hold 1v2 lane and are useless, if their ADC dies and ragequits lvl 1. There ia a reason why support role is so hated.
I used to main support, but find that now more than ever, is an insanely frustrating role.
Autofill, kills more games from the champ select than anything else. I'm not talking about autofilled supports, I'm talking about autofilled ADCs, jung, mids, etc. Those are critical roles and if someone sucks at the role, but doesn't want to give it up for a less desired role, then proceed to suck and feed, it's a bad position to put a team. So, how do you productively support an autofilled ADC who's 2/10/1 in 20 minutes? You can't.
I'll give you that supports aren't "useless" and do have a small impact on the game, but if you main support and are playing 70-100% on point, but your team is seriously being bad, refusing to group, doesn't listen to pings, has no map awareness, etc. You (as a support) HAVE ZERO impact on the game. You can't carry, you can't defend, you can't do shit. This is the most frustrating part of being support.
If people are just concerned about kill streaks or getting there name spammed across the screen, then they should have Supports spammed with assists. (Double/Trip/Quad/Penta kill spam for assisting.) How many supports would get Pentas in every game and how many times would they do it.
Honestly, as a support what I'd like to see for supports is:
(Personally, I hate lifesteal or items that turn carries into self sustaining machines.) It kind of negates the "Support" of the Support role, as well as, making carries selfish players. I think lifesteal (carry sustain) should be on support items that are a unique active like
or
or possibly even a unique aura. How much more significant do you think the carry would treat/protect their support if their support was there only form of sustain? Until they get rid of the ways carries can self sustain, the support role has no significant role in mid/late game that has consistency if your team is garbage.
That's just my very shortened 2 cents (and personal opinion) worth of problems the support role faces.
