I called it "lmfao".

That's a game in which I thought "hey, that Tristana is like destroying us alone, she's hard carrying". Then I see the damage dealt to champions, and see a Maokai with less kill participation than the Tristana, full tank, that dealt more damage to champions than a 18/5 adc.

His build was: Zz'Rot, Righteous Glory, Mercs, Visage and Sunfire. What the fuck? Why is a tank with insane sustain and CC allowed to deal THAT MUCH damage? More than a glass cannon carry with 0 damage items?

Mao was probably heavily trading and sustaining against another tank in lane. They traded a lot of damage on each other top lane to no real consequence because they both had sustain and hence the damage dealt stat. Tanks in tank metas do a lot of damage to each other, inflating their damage stats because there is more health to be taken before someone actually dies.

No, he was vs Panth, so your argument is invalid. Our team had 0 tanks, we were full squishy.

Considering that he also had 36k taken damage he probably just traded a whole lot.

These numbers add up in the end.

Mao first blooded an ignite panthon, i wouldn't be surprised if he carried the game because that laning phase was over. That has nothing to do with tank balance and everything to do with pantheon's design of naturally falling off like a rock if he gets even a little behind.

This is kind of why sunfire was nerfed previously, since it's one of those ambient sources of damage that can add up to quite a lot without being appreciated or requiring much interaction other than sticking to someone (which mao is rather good at).

It got reverted since the alternative for most tanks was rushing thornmail (or at least bramble vest), which felt even worse.

Pretty sure they do want to try to make healthier items for top lane tanks, but old sunfire seemed the lesser of various evils.

That said, the slow burn of sunfire is going to inflate the champ damage stat a lot with damage that doesn't "stick" during short trades and so on (so 5k damage done translates to maybe 1 actual kill), compared to the wtf-burst of other lanes where actually getting in a fight means someone is dying (so 5k damage for that other person might be 5 near one shot kills).

Yeah, Sunfire was not allowed to be good just because you deal damage by doing nothing but sticking on someone. Then Bramblevest took its place, and it made top matchups a stat battle. At this point it's obvious that bruiser and tank items need to be looked at. There's always a go-to item that ruins certain matchups/makes some champions obnoxious as hell, and Maokai is a clear example of that.

But talking about damage, sunfire or not, a tank should not be allowed to have such high base damage to hurt more than a carry. Maokai is one of the worst offenders, but other champions like Sejuani deal way too much damage while being tanky and CC machines as well.

most tanks have some scaling on armour/health/magic resist or otherwise good base damage. Did you let him stick on to you? didn't you focus him down?

if you nuke their tristana but leave maokai up of course he's gonna wail on your team and do the most damage
