My prediction for the next season’s meta
No one will ever be happy regardless of the meta
No one will ever be happy regardless of the meta

technically below gold (or for some players diamond V below) everything is viable
and that encompasses like 99% of the community
people just complain about the meta champs because they are just giving an excuse as to why they lost their last game instead of sucking it up and adapting and improving themselves.
the majority of the complaint posts are just excuses like "plants" or "autofill" or "itemization" or "matchmaking" or "toxicity" or "crit" or "skillshot detection" or "lag" or of course, "the balance team". If there's a factor that could lose a game, the playerbase is gonna blame it.

"Heavily skewed elo bracket"
We have 1 challenger poster (EzSkillshot), 1 Master tier with a massive bias (Sona x Rubrick), a small handful of Diamonds (Malicious, you, that annoying Littlest Lulu person), and then a bunch of Gold 5s and belows. Oh and Yenn, but he's been bitching about his recent loss since the forums were yellow and everyone's avatar was a "?"
With the exception of a few, almost all you guys are heavily skewed towards catering towards your one trick/role you abused to getting to a higher tier and whatever constant that caused you to lose the game. The only thing heavily skewed is your bias.
I feel like theres more diamonds around than you give credit to, as theres certainly a bunch who insist on using smurfs to post for whatever reason, and theres also various diamonds who are fresh diamonds who don't have a diamond badge just yet.
That said, the existence of one tricks for every single champion up to diamond or so implies they're viable up to diamond or so imo. Sure, diamond+ players can smurf and play whatever and probably do fine at lower elos, but one tricks aren't necessarily smurfs, and if they can use just the one champion to climb, then that's imo what viable means.
Gold+ makes up for 10-15% of the ranked community.
That's a bit off from 1%.
I think bot lane would be the catalyst for that change.
As long as one specific class is mandatory for both teams, the game is going to revolve around them somewhat.
Bot lane will be mandatory as long as tanks are, they are the only ones who can kill them without getting CC'ed to oblivion.
Bot lane will be mandatory as long as tanks are
Bot lane will be in every game because it's a lane.
But trying to tell me that ADCs are mandatory because tanks are...? You do realize that ADCs have always been mandatory, and tanks have been far more optional.
Marksmen as a class incorporates a number of different ways to do the same thing, which lets them as a class have at least a couple of viable champs for everything.
DPS,burst, poke and assassins x)
Even utility.
Those are the subclasses they somehow picked up.
And the reason i state that ADC are mandatory as long as tanks are now is because of the fact that itemization has been changed, only marksmen can handle strong tanks given current items in a teamfight.
Mages suck at it and melee get raped by CC and followup.
Thus if you wish to change marksmen in the current state of things then tanks need a lot of changes too.
There's been metas where tanks have not been mandatory. ADCs have been mandatory for seven seasons, the scope of it goes beyond the current state of the game.
It would take a lot more work than just changing tanks, unfortunately.
Of course, but arbitrarily changing marksmen without touching tanks in this current state would lead to another tank meta and a far worse one than before.
They have been balanced towards eachother after all, and while marksmen as a role having a champion for each situation, like dealing damage via poke, abilties or auto attacks etc.
The ways they do it can vary and thus is countered by different things.
But tanks on the other hand are just these big fellows base on the idea of near unkillable walls that go around, and due to itemization changes the only ones that can do anything about a strong tank is a specialized marksman.
Thats why, i stated that if you wish to change marksmen, start with the tanks to avoid a obvious disaster from that direction.
Or rather, change them at the same time if intending to do anything at all or leave it.
Or rather, change them at the same time if intending to do anything at all or leave it.
I really don't think you're hearing me.
It's not that "if we change ADCs, we have to change tanks"
It's
"If we change ADCs, the whole game kind of has to change too"
oh.
Well....true i guess? Aside from the mentioned two supports would also have to change but the others might not really need anything drastic or particular to really keep working.
Well, I'm not an expert game developer, but it's not lie that tanks just haven't been as mandatory as marksman throughout the game's history.
Having someone tanky in your team composition is always nice to have, but a tank tank hasn't been considered "mandatory" to the same degree, to the point where you can't really pick any other class except for the occasional exception (Ziggs) in bot lane.
Every other lane has some level of flexibility, even the support role.
Have you watched any of worlds recently? They are basically competing for who gets the biggest and baddest tanks first and foremost.
Then ardent supports, followed by marksmen.
Faker picked galio like 5 times in a row and won each.
Many teams lost just because they let the enemy team get 3 big tanks and then became unable to kill said tanks.
And while seju has been nerfed in live we still see galio, grag and maokai as extremely hard to kill when played well.
A mage or wrong type of marksman basically can't kill a strong tank.
Thus you are left picking for specialized anti tank marksmen or marksmen that bypass the tanks.
Current state of the game revolves a lot around the tanks, as shown by how the LCS people pick and ban, thats why i´d consider them mandatory.
And that is probably intentional to some degree on Riots part given all the changes they did up until worlds.
They wanted to make tanks important and they wanted to make marksmen important.
Then change how towers take damage. Forcing bot lane to change is a false catalyst
Show me any competitive game that hasn't mathed out the prime characters/classes despite numerous options.
Blizzard tried with HotS and failed.
DotA took their talents and tried, but still kinda failed.
The same meta we have every season, Pinky.
The ADC meta.
Last season was everyone and their mothers built
and 1v5 and take no damage meta
You dont get any points for writing the truth here xD
If you can try to call Season 6 anything but a hyper snowball, burst and damage meta favoring ADCs, you don't have the context with which to discuss League balance.
We've been in a carry-burst meta for the last 2+ years since patch 5.22
We got a real psychic ladies and gents.
I Know right? He's amazing
swoons
True...
However, on a serious note, I feel like
is about to hit the spotlight. I can't say why. But
is gonna be the new item for marksmen to have, and she's one of the primary users of it.
People are gonna forget about that item because a new item will be released, then Riot is gonna overbuff it (classic rito) and it'll be meta for 8-9 patches until riot nerfs it.
No one will ever be happy regardless of the meta
What? You mean the ADC meta we've had for years now? Can't remember the last time it changed.
Tank meta, assassin meta, botlane mage meta and lethality meta.
Marksmen hardly had a presence in any of them, sure like 2 champs played but i can't ever recall a meta where 1 class didn't have at least 2 viable champs.
S3 was also basically best midlaner wins.
My prediction; bot will be the winning factor like the last 4 metas :^)
Last meta jungler was the winning factor
Did everyone forget the better jungler win?
And the meta before that was Jayce/Kennen Meta
And before that the good old sunfire/iceborn that made everyone better champions
Jungler win depends on your ELO. In lower elo it's true, but in higher elo when people watch the map/ward, it's not as good. But if bot wins, they're strong the whole game. ADC has been relevant in every meta.
and the fact that they now can break the attack speed limit is disgusting
Is is bad that all classes are relevant when the goal is diversity?
Marksmen are the best DPS bar none, thats why you want them on the team.
No other class can handle tanks, and even among marksmen you need to pick among a few specific ones to really handle a strong tank.
They also serve to justify the supports existence and functionality, if everyone were as safe and capable of protecting themselves as the average midlaner then the support role would hardly be needed.
Thus for the sake of all players that like to play supports, focused on heals, barriers, protective abilities and more a class that actually needs protection is necessary.
And it has to be worth protecting too.
Thus marksmen, the only class that works against tanks and so unable to really 1v1 (with a few exceptions) that they need a support to sit ontop of them and protect them from dropping dead by because someone sneezed in their direction.
Not all classes are relevant though. There was a point where mages were at the lowest win rate, a point where assassins were at the lowest, etc. ADC had a time for like a month where people joked about adc being weak because at that time tank items were reworked to buff them all and assassins like Ekko and Fizz abused them to kill an ADC with high base damage and tank stats to survive their auto attacks.
It was legit 4-5 months.
Started some time before the assassin update and ended with botrk buffs.
Marksmen have had their fair share of downtime too.
And mages as a collective have never been bad, ever, unless we judge them by the same standards as we judge marksmen of course.
Then at the point where we had 2-3 strong ones, 2-3 average and the rest weak was indeed a downtime.
This. In higher Elo the effect of the jungler was transitioned into 4-man diving botlane to get your ADC snowballing and fed enough to single handedly carry the game after IE + shiv.
I guess people already forgot about the Adc2017 Meme.
That lasted for a whole 2 weeks?
More like 4-5 months x)
It started with the assassin update and kept going until botrk buffs.
Assassin update was roughly 1 year ago, botrk buffs were 8 months ago.
And not to mention marksmen were weak for roughly a month before the start of 2017 as well.
So they had a downtime of 5 months in total where nearly all of them had bad winrates and lower than usual playrates except Jhin and someone else.
That's a pretty long time.
fk the meta
I'll be happy with a better matchmaking system though.
and Ranked overhaul
The "balance" of this game is just a bunch of meta shifts over and over. We've already been through every kind of meta and people weren't happy so why would they be happy next season?
Near the end of the season there will be a tank meta. That way towards worlds, there will be longer matches to broadcast.
It would be more accurate to say "someone won't ever be happy" than to say "no one". Guaranteed there were some ADCs out there skeeting this season (specially twitch mains), that's for damn sure.
Honestly, we won't ever have a fun or balanced game unless Riot deletes all of the champions except the ones I play.
Say it with me, metas are healthy for games, metas are normal and not a sign of bad balancing, metagames are normal for a game with this much variety.
Seriously, why are people so ignorant to the idea of what a meta is and how it works?
Odds are, the meta affecting you is probably close to zero considering 43% of the playerbase is in silver where someone not playing what is "meta" should be the least of your worries. If you're not an LCS player the argument that "only 30 heroes are viable at any given time" probably doesn't apply to you and doesn't affect you whatsoever.
In fact, if I asked you to make a list of "viable" champions it would be much larger than if i asked you to make a list of nonviable champs. Why do people think that competitive scene dictates what you play? I swear, the biggest reason people are stuck in low to mid elo is because they play for the elos they want to be in and not the elo they are currently in.
