Mages Changes 8.14?

Hi Guys,

So on June 22nd (my birthday!) Meddler stated:

**Some 8.14 changes **

**We've just done some initial planning for patch 8.14. Some of the things we'll be looking at: **

**Monitoring how our changes in 8.13 that impact bot lane, gold/xp funneling and snowball have gone, in particular to see if we should go further in 8.14. Looking at mage balance, with a focus on mages who've been left in too weak a state after the 8.9 mana changes. We'll be assessing a range of champions for that, with changes expected to some, but not all of them. Some possible candidates include Syndra, Annie, Vel'Koz, Ahri, Cass, Viktor and Ori. Likely that some of those champions don't get buffed and some not on that list do though as we dig into things more. Likely a buff to Karma. We're working on some longer term stuff for her, but will likely give her some straight power as well in the short term. Potentially a buff to Liandries. **

Yet currently nothing is on PBE. This to be seems like a good chance for people to throw in some CONSTRUCTIVE idea's for the team to consider. I'm personally hoping for the news myself and every other malz main has been waiting for over a year to hear: "MALZAHAR REVERT!!!!" but what are YOU hoping to see happen to your favorite mage?

Honestly, they dont need to buff anyone

They need to nerf all of the champs pretty much.

ADCs are finally at a spot they are designed to be, now the rest of the classes need to be nerfed.

They also need to revert 8.10/8.11 jungle/scuttle changes or just revert scuttle and balance the jungle experience to be equal to solo laners without the current gaps where junglers are 2-4 levels behind the solo laners in experience (not counting scuttle).

this is never the case in any game im in, the jungler is always = to or even ahead in lvls to solo lanes.

Then all your laners must not know how to last hit or very bad, watch some replays and watch when a jungler hits 4 and check the solo laners level and then again at 6 or 10 min mark.

The Scuttle changes were necessary.

I just don't like the rng factor of it.

Jungle is supposed to be a "roaming support" in the sense to get lanes ahead. Before the changes, 80% of the games were decided by who had the better jungler (also who 4man bot ganked first) which was very unhealthy for the game.

People can complain all they want about it, people get so used to being the dominant factor, they forget what it is like to be on par with the everyone else for the first time in seasons. Case and point with ADCs.

LoL your delusions are funny, roaming support and "on par" doesn't mean under level of solo lanes and having half of the available champ pool invalidated due to the changes.

I don't know what game you are playing. Junglers are still a huge factor in the games, and a lot of junglers can still be played.

They just need to adapt their playstyle

But mages are nerf last chapter requires you to be in lane for 9 minutes.. when at lvl 5 all most every mage needs to back to regain mana..

If you look at the current meta, Mages aren't even really played anymore because of it.

Then why nerf mages?

They didn't need changes in the first place. It's GH and Meddler we are talking about. They don't even play the game, yet they say they know how to balance it.

I guess the just couldn’t stand riot morello’s item being built as a core on mages. Typical riot.

Just look at how good Morello's was compared to every other AP item. if you didn't build morellos first, you were severely put behind.

Actually some people just built lost chapter then went for something else (much like they do with tear atm) as it's mana sustain was better as lost chapter then as morrellos. Malzahar for instance used to go lost chapter, liandrys, rylais, morrellos. Of course this was the same point it cost 900 gold, didn't give CDR or as much AP, and was soley for sustain. Still some still do it on malz by starting Sapphire Crystal and getting 950 gold, it just means they have to go ludens instead of serephs.

Why would they do anything on the PBE right now? The Developers are wasting all of their resources and time on the recently released Aatrox.

I've been playing a lot of Orianna (post shield nerfs) lately and I'm enjoying her, haven't really noticed a lot of the shielding missing when I use it when I need to. Also I've been playing a lot of Syndra as well and I'm fine with how mage items from 4 or 5 patches ago are treating her.

Other than that I don't play many other mages like Annie or Anivia.

Yeah the shield changes on Ori were very much about skill expression rather then an outright nerf imo. Syndra is looking ok atm imo as well. The item changes weren't all bad, they just shifted the focus too far away from morrellos being a viable rush imo, and most people were very disappointed by the new AP items they introduced at the time. For Malzahar (my main) the changes to liandry's were actually very good (2% max hp from current hp) though the loss of the inherent magic pen did hurt somewhat as it wasn't really offset by the 10% increased damage. Seraphs and Ludens are both great items now and that's all the better imo, but they really hurt ROA and overall AP is less now then it was which is painful for those that require on scaling to start to do damage.

There are some mages that don't really need buffs per-say, but just need a place in the current meta. Syndra for example was always a Malzahar players worst nightmare: Her Q being almost spammable and after a getting a bit of AP could 1 shot his voidlings pre-nerf pre-mini rework last season, whereas now anything does anyway, at which point Syndra is far less of a concern then someone like Irelia who not only 1 shots them, but gets healed from it and can use them to engage on you lol.

IMO the issue in midlane is that the mages that are countered by hypermobile hypercarries can't get a look in. The mages that used to counter hypermobile hypercarries don't anymore, and these are the mages champions like Vel'koz, Xerath etc used to work well against. Put simply with single champion examples (these are NOT the only ones!), Malz used to beat Zed, Xerath used to beat Malz, Zed used to beat Xerath and so balance was maintained. Now without Malz, Xerath has nowhere to turn. Therefore improving Malzahar in this scenario would actually help Xerath as well (again I'm just using single champion examples, there are MANY more lol)

Sure let’s consider Syndra weak, and azir has oneshot potential. Well Meddler younhate soemthing you can’t play don’t you.
