why is full crit less popular on Yi?

i feel like the big thing that weakens master yi in the current meta is the tendency for players to rush items like item 3153 item 1419 that shoehorn him into relying on autos far more than his** much **safer (and more viable in teamfights) bursty patterns, which for a melee champ like yi gets him killed pretty often even when he's well-positioned for cleanup duty.

when yi has just item 3031 and item 3087 the Q crits and team-melting start to get real, and he still has basically the highest single target DPS in the game. the great excuse to get item 3508 helps him greatly in the late-game, giving him potential back to back Qs and sustaining his mana

i have gotten_ countless_ pentakills on yi and im not even a great player overall. i am horrified by any straight buffs to yi's damage because i really really don't think he needs it. as long as the team stalls long enough you can even do this from behind.

when your Q starts to do over 600-800 damage, you start doing this nasty thing where you jump on a squishy, Q auto and they're dead, and then you can Q on someone else (and when enemy team is clumped up, beginning an almost old-katarina style chain that can sometimes bring even durable champs to nearly half before you're even done with the squishies)

with proper timing you can dismantle the enemy team in seconds the instant they let their guard down.

it happens so quickly that it's mostly about the timing (when to go in, and when you use Q to dodge CC) and what order you kill the enemy team in.

i've melted a 4000 HP 400 armor maokai in about 4-5 seconds by building full crit (though his thornmail nearly killed me).

even though i'm a yi main, i know not all teams are coordinated enough to take his threat into account especially considering that i don't play ranked, so feel free to take my thread with a grain of salt, but personally after playing this champ for years it's been consistently by far the most powerful build for me

TL;DR, i strongly feel yi loses a lot of potential by not leaning into Crit+AD heavy builds that make his Q an insane ability, and since there are a lot of dedicated yi mains, i'd like to hear what the fixation on attack speed builds is coming from.

Attack speed because of his passive. Also with his ult he can get to like 2.5/sec attacks pretty easily. That mean's he attacks twice every 1.6 seconds. You don't need that much and should probably get crit.

I've played Yi plenty of times and he can definitely destroy if the other team doesn't control him but after the first initial attack its more about not getting blinded in your bloodrage than an item build per se. Saying that, I would definitely recommend crit+on-hit effects more than anything. Don't even finish your jungle item. If you want to though get this item 1412 and experiment with different things.

A final note: your yi build game to game should have maybe 1-2 core items. The rest would be reactionary items item 3026 item 3035 item 3156 item 3139 item 3142 item 3091

On-Hit Yi is much more forgiving then crit yi. Crit Yi has incredible burst, but 1 stun in team fights and he is a gonner.

If the enemy team are spunges i believe Crit Yi trumps On-Hit Yi. If the enemy team has a lot of tanks On-Hit Yi trumps Crit Yi.

Also On-Hit Yi is more tank, and can kill baron/rift/dragon/tower/inhib/nexus faster.

I prefer Crit Yi, as he feels more like the Yi i played in season 2-3 with sword of divine (pre-rework) I miss the old yi :( Ap yi for early-mid game Ad yi for mid-late game :( :( :( :( i want pre-rework yi ;*(

I think crit in general is less favorable after reaching 75%. Only because at that point in the game you could have spent that 2600g from an upgraded zeal item or 3000g from ER for a more new stat like Lifesteal or armor penetration.

All depending on the situation of course, but the power from upgraded Zeals have dropped immensely this year, changing around a lot of attack speed values and removing the all favoring RFC + shiv stacking combo.

Crit is great against squishier teams, but if a team has tanks/bruisers crit is far less effective. I play a lot of yi And I like going item 1400 item 3111 into item 3087 item 3031 and item 3508, the damage in teamfights is insane. But against tankier enemies its a lot tougher to make work.
