Can Graves One-Shot himself on Rammus?

DorkunedAuras··19 votes·4,210 views

So when Graves crits, he shoots 10 shots. I believe each applies on hits, though I'm not sure. If they do, will they all proc item 3075 and Defensive ball curl? If so, graves taking 10x damage from that would probably instantly explode. Can anyone on PBE test this and throw the answer back? I'm really curious.

If each shot applied on hit, and he had life steal, I dont think he would kill himself. Also I dont think they do apply on hit. That would make items like item 3153 really over powered.

It wouldn't make Bork OP on him as much as it would give him even more of an incentive to be extremely up close (and thus, in a huge amount of danger as an adc)

Graves has to be extremely up close to function one way or another. He's not getting away from that with his new kit.

1 shot (4 bullets) If you get hit by 1, it proc's on-hit. Every bullet after the first deals less damage and will not proc on-hit. If 4 seperate champions each get hit by one bullet each, they all take on-hit and the full damage of 1 bullet.

~~I am unsure if or not lifesteal will apply to bullets after the first. Though if I had to guess, I would say lifesteal applied for each bullet. ~~ Lifesteal applies for each bullet even if you are hit by more than one.

so against thornmail would only the first hit be deflected?

Mathbalnase1 votes

It is my understanding that Thornmail will return damage based on the total combined damge dealt by all the bullets that hit, but only apply the bonus armor scaling once, no matter how many bullets hit.

This should be the case, as it works as a counter on-hit.

also for the on-hit effects question, I refer you to this from his feedback thread, posted up in the OP by mr T.

  1. Graves’ attack is a cone of 4 bullets whose AD ratio scales up by 33% over game time. The first bullet does 0.75-1.1 tAD (by level); extra bullets deal 33% of that. Each bullet can apply On Hit Effects, but only once per target. Graves’ crits fire more bullets (8 normally, 10 with Infinity Edge), empowering him at close range to burst a target and long range to deal AoE damage.

here is the thing from the pbe to answer questions.

so he only procs the effects once per target

i have no idea all i know is that if all individual shot hit one target it only triggers one on hit effect.

good to know

Each shot that hits after one will only do 25% of the damage of the first.

Also he only shoots 10 if he has item 3031 . Otherwise it's 8.

you're incorrect. That number goes up per level.

TheLastShadow453 votes

I've played it. I might be wrong on the damage but not the shots.

JustMyBassCannon4 votes

The damage numbers go up with level, and the bullet number goes up with Infinity Edge.

Graves' damage is 75% +25% per bullet at level 1, and 110% +36.6% per bullet at level 18. He fires 8 bullets on regular crits, and 10 bullets on IE crits.

There. You're both right in a way.

Auz the Ripper1 votes

I was not aware that the damage of each bullet went up with level

This frightens me

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

It's a little more terrifying when you realize that Graves reaches above normal Crit damage levels with just his regular attacks. At level 1, it's up to 150% AD, ramping up to 220% at level 18.

Thankfully, he can only chain 3 shots in a row before needing to reload, but he's insanely bursty now.

Lack of clarity on my end, I was only speaking of the damage. You were right on the shots of course.

Level 18 Graves with IE will do 1.1 + 1.1*.33*9 = 4.4 AD on crits. Let's figure he has 350 AD, that means he does 1540 Damage.

Then Rammus with Thornmail and DBC, for a total of let's say 500 Armor. Then Defensive Ball Curl will do 65 + 50 = 115 MD, while thornmail will return 0.15*1540 + 99 = 325 (remember, regardless of how many pellets hit the target, they only apply on-hit effects to the target once), thus Graves will take 471 damage. So it's highly unlikely that he will one shot himself.

Edit: Thornmail is bonus armor, not total.

JustMyBassCannon3 votes

You made one mistake. Thornmail only reflects 25% of bonus Armor. And Rammus has 105 base Armor at level 18. So Thornmail's reflect damage from Armor would be ~99, not 125.

Hypothetically, if each individual bullet proc'd the reflect damage, DBC would deal 1150 damage, and Thornmail would deal ~1220 damage, resulting in Graves self-bursting for almost 2400 magic damage.

So let's be glad that it only procs on-hit effects once.

Thanks.

Graves "Doc, how bad is it... give it to me straight." Shen "You shot a goddamned reflective wall, you're gonna die." Graves "Well, shit."

In theory, if Rammus has 350 armor with W on, it does 90 dmg. Thornmail does ~70 + 15% of the dmg taken, which shouldnt be that high if every bullet counts on its own. So x10 that is 1600 + 150% of the dmg taken? I think Graves only shoots 8 bullets when he crits tho, so that is 1280 + 120%. That would be fun to see lol but doubt it works.

doesn't thornmail count reflect damage before armor?

He actually shoots 8 i think.

He actually shoots 8 i think.

He shoots 4 normally. A critical strike doubles the effectiveness of the attack like it does on normal attackers, thus 8 pellets.

IE's effect of "add a further 50% effectiveness to crits" is then applied to the pellet count, for 10 pellets on an IE crit.

...Now what I want to know is how Crit Damage runes interact with him.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

10 with Infinity Edge, they stated.

Slamurai Jack1 votes

They don't all apply on hit. That would be completely broken.

Sire Hippington1 votes

oly applys on-hit on the first bullet per target. Now, if you would have a one for all with 5 rammus and are positioned in a way that he hits all 5 with atleast 1 bullet, it might actually work. Btw, thats a valid tactic vs a fed twitch, get a thorn on every champ in the team and line up for his ult, he will die probably after the 3ed shot...

Meep Man1 votes

Although I have yet to test it, I doubt this is how it works since Graves AAs only apply on-hit affects a max of once per unit per basic attack, so only one. If anything, Graves is actually stronger against Rammus than other ADCs.

kJs1 votes

I don't think it does. If on-hit effects only apply once (one pellet applies it only) then Thornmail and Defensive Curl should work the same way, only proc on one pellet.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

So when Graves crits, he shoots 10 shots.

Then technically wouldn't he 10-shot himself? :D

ChaosThief1 votes

In my experience, it only applies one shot to the mix.

OK...

Mike Hunts Toxic1 votes

so how does Graves +item 3085 work out now ?

ChewbaccasRear1 votes

Now I kind of want this to actually be a thing, but I'm sure they made it so it can't happen (would of been hilarious though)
