For a Time Mage, Zilean's kit is awfully mundane...

A bomb whose only connection with the time theme is that it's a Timed Explosive. A cooldown reduction. And a generic slow/haste, which while it does have some connection with time, is something found in pretty much every other champion.

He has a Revival ultimate that looks much more fitting on a celestial holy champion.

Thematically speaking...Zilean is as thematically wasted as Nunu is. So much potential. Such a mundane kit with little relevance to their theme. I guess the question then is...why?

I feel the same way. The Time Mage is such a cool concept and Zilean's kit just does nothing to support it. His only ability to have any relevance to time is his Q, which just feels like an ability that would go better with Ziggs.

I thought his only time-relevant ability was his rewind (resets cooldowns).

I don't know, I feel that his bomb is by far the least time-related as the sole thing it has to do with time is it's name...

To put it into context, it's like calling Lee Sin a dragon-champion because he has an ability called Dragon Kick.

...then again Riot does want Lee Sin to be literally everything don't they?

You have to realize that both of these champions came out right in the beginning; quite literally for Nunu. Zilean came out about 2 months afterwards (all this from lolking btw). Back then Riot was creating champs with pretty simple kits, far from the newer releases over the past year.

Both deserve a rework, really, but since there are so many that really SHOULD be done, that Riot will have their hands full for a long, long time.
