Flamed for using Malphite Ultimate as a "fancy flash"

Ten Summer Suns·3/16/2019, 6:32:18 PM·43 votes·17,010 views

I just got counter-picked by a Shyvana, and was put in a position where I had to Ult out or get torn up. My team didn't like that I was Ulting away from her instead of Ulting into her. Mind you it's only me and Shyv around, I have no vision to see if she has allies, my allies can't make it there, and I certainly can't 1v1. I've seen Malphite highlight plays where players were also forced to use his Ult to escape. Am I in the wrong here?

edit When I tried explaining I'd seen Diamond players doing the same thing I just got mocked "you aint diamond youre wood" ... ummm okay?

match history: think I was playing against a diamond smurf because Shyv stopped buying items 9 minutes in

Take ultimate hunter

Get max cdr..

Wait until someone flames you again when you were just using your ult to escape or something....

Start finding silly ways to waste your R to trigger teammates further, itl be up in no time.

Ever seen a Sion ult away from an oncoming 1v4 as hes collapsed on while split pushing?

Sion COWWWWAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDS

You made the right call. (I use my ult as CC + MS steroid to runaway when I cant win a fight)

Inkling Commando3/16/2019, 8:02:37 PM14 votes

i sometimes use kled ult to run away from a chaser.

Tham Chundi3/16/2019, 6:52:27 PM9 votes

No malphite ultimate can be used to achomplish anything as long as it provides benifits. Many ability in leauge can be used in many way but people only think there is one way. Its about being the most creative with your abilitys to outplay. For instance old ez w could be used for dmg, escape, as buff, as decrease, help team, combo with self, combo with escape. Thats why old ez w was so much better.

just league players being typical league players, if you ult and don't die, it wasn't a useless ult, it saved your life

PhearBunny3/16/2019, 7:33:09 PM8 votes

its a shyvana tho. Could you not have just Q'd her and ran away?

Depends, maybe you think you couldn't win but could have? I didn't see the play, but anyone with an ult that can be used to escape does sometimes. I've done it plenty on Warwick. Eves is special because you can use it to escape WHILE slicing a chunk of their face off.

If you don't get a pentakill every time you ult it's a bannable offense.

Meteora7073/16/2019, 9:41:08 PM5 votes

eh I get flamed for the same shit occasionally in dia, its hard to say if you were right or not but you sure make it sound like you were in the right. it all depends on the situation though.

Boltonator3/16/2019, 8:53:25 PM4 votes

I’ve used Sion Ult to escape near-death situations before, nothing wrong with living to fight another day, as long as there was not an eminent teamfight you decided to run away from.

This just sounds like salty people being salty.

Sirsir3/16/2019, 8:57:14 PM3 votes

Sounds like they were idiots.

Ragaren3/16/2019, 8:59:10 PM3 votes

Ulting to escape is perfectly fine, if your CDs are low enough, or if you are lane it is far preferable than giving the enemy player a kill and extra time to cs and damage the tower.

KFCeytron3/17/2019, 12:12:24 AM2 votes

Yes, you are required to ult into enemies with Malphite. Also, you may only use Ekko's ult when your "ghost" is right in the middle of the enemy team. And when you play Vayne you are required to Tumble at the enemy team every 2 seconds (every 1 second while your ult is active).

6 Years Unranked3/16/2019, 8:53:21 PM2 votes

Just mute them. They're no higher than you (assuming you're playing ranked), so they really have no good reason to flame you. If they were diamond smurfs, maybe. But when everyone's playing in their own rank, there's no good reason to flame.

Whilst it's a bit of an oversimplification, think of it this way...If you would use your ultimate to secure a kill, you'd get 300 gold. If you use your ultimate to avoid certain death, you'd deny the enemy 300 gold. Either way, it's the same value.

5StackUltOneShot3/17/2019, 4:03:56 PM1 votes

Idk im Diamond and ive seen all manner of ults used as escapes.

When you watch challengers they sometimes use the likes of Kled to escape.

Auroramancer3/17/2019, 4:56:44 PM1 votes

Malphite ult is better to use than Flash simply on the basis of the cooldown. Dont sweat your teammates.

Kenneky3/18/2019, 8:30:06 AM1 votes

Personally I find nothing wrong with that kind of stuff. I understand that an ultimate can be used in a better way, but sometimes you have to use it to escape, it's better not to die rather to give experience and gold. I do that a lot when I play Lulu, just she is so damn squishy, sometimes I have to save myself.

KVbqbFsC8e3/16/2019, 7:34:51 PM1 votes

Well if you absolutely had to ult away or die then its an ok choice, but really there shouldn't be anytime in that matchup where you're forced to do so.

SUPERSATANA3/17/2019, 11:02:41 AM1 votes

Flaming is always wrong. If your question implied also a "did I make the right decision?" tho...using Malph ult to avoid death is ok, but getting yourself in a position where you needed to do it in the first place...not so much so.
