Rekkles, one of the best ADC's to ever play, basically being forced out of his role

I just watched the video someone posted with the like 30 minute interview with Rekkles. I can't say that I liked the ADC changes, I loved crit. But this just changed my viewpoint all together.

Riot reverted Leblanc because the new (or should I say old) LB wasn't cutting it.

Riot reverted Rengar because it also wasn't cutting it.

I don't know, I just think it was sad to see Rekkles who has so much passion to play, bench himself because he isn't able to play ANY champion who BELONGS bot.

Edit : Here is the interview for anyone who is wanting to watch it.

you know what would fix the gold funneling?

REVERTING THE FUCKING JUNGLE.

take all the gold and xp off scuttle crab, increase camp spawn rates.

no time to farm mid lane between camp respawns. you lose half the gold and jungle xp if you spend your time on mid and dont clear efficiently.

why does gold funneling work now? because fucking junglers have soo much free time on their hands, that they dont lose anything when theyre taking their time to farm an entire fucking lane between camps.

I think the unfair comparison is how good ADCs had it. Compare Rekkles to a top laner, for example.

A top laner would have to learn tanks (Ornn, Sion, Shen, Maokai), bruisers (Darius, Jax, Aatrox), mages (Rumble, Ryze, Vlad), and duelists (Fiora, Irelia, sometimes even Yasuo). Meanwhile, ADCs only had to learn one class of champion. Sure, there are differences between playing Vayne and Draven as an example but nothing to the extent of say Darius vs. Vlad or Fiora vs. Ornn.

As far as I see it, for the first time ADC players have to learn something outside of their comfort zone and it's a shock to quite a few of them, suddenly having to learn support, mages and even bruisers. It's a new world and ADCs aren't the only champs who can successfully go bot anymore.

Yeah riot basically deleted a whole role/class from the game, and there are ppl that actually support it as dumb as it is.

Lets see which class they will delete next until the game is nothing but bruisers and asssasins.

This only showcases a bigger problem with ADC's in the past, where they were mandatory so "botlane" position was synonimous with "ranged AD carry". Look at top lane, for example. It was inhabited by fighters, tanks and even a few mages and assassins. So if meta doesn't favor tanks, a toplane main could switch to fighters. Or maybe supports - enchanters, mages, aggressive and protective tanks. Again, if one of them is bad a support main can play others.

And then we have ADCs, who were choking out diversity for so long that now other options are available for the bot role the mains are unable to adapt. It's the first time in years a ranged AD carry isn't the absolute lord and master of the game, and it's one of the best things that could happen to the game. Now botlane players should adapt to the state of the game, not the other way round.

"B-but he is one of best ADC players!" If he's so good then he will not have a problem adapting. I've seen Faker for example play mages, assassins - hell, even Taric in midlane. That's 3 different roles already all in the same lane. And this guy can't adapt to playing more than 1? Give me a break.

He is only trying to learn ADC champions. Are you *****ing kidding me?

He is, by intention, only trying to learn about 12-18% of champions in the game. Likely, even fewer different types of match ups. Meanwhile, every other lane/role in this game has already understood that they need to learn all kinds of champion. You don't see Impact crying and requesting to be subbed out because tanks aren't in meta. No, Impact goes on to practice and play MORE than just tanks. He learns to play tanks, adc's, mages, bruisers, supports..etc.

Hell, even other ADC players are starting to learn that they need to know how to play other roles/classes. It's idiotic to think you should only learn to play that one specific type of champion. Can you succeed? of course! but you make it a lot hard on yourself and you in turn become a one-trick pony.

ADC's aren't dead. They just aren't a mandatory pick in competitive anymore. Like any other class, it's based on team goals/draft. I'm a big fan of Rekkles; he is still young and talented. He can(and already shows) he will try to learn other classes.

I hope Riot doesn't start overturning some ADC nerfs because of some pro's who refuse to adapt and learn. This too is something team organization can take into account; tell you ADC only players to learn other classes. Perhaps swap out lanes and let ADC's go mid. Echo Fox is clearly doing it.

It sucks that Fnatic has a mid laner that is very diverse who CAN play adc's at a level close to Rekkles. The same goes to G2, perks can play ADC; so in response, their bot lane learn to play mages. Not a hard concept.

Time to ADAPT or lose your job.

He literally says in the video "other roles have gone though the same thing so this isnt anything new" and people completely gloss over that. Tanks are more useless right now but no one cares because they aren't ADCs. When adcs made Assassins useless no one cared. When Mages where useless no one cared.

When its ADCs turn however they pretend like they are the only class in existence this has happened to. Much worse they pretend like they haven't caused other classes to feel this way.

Ill feel bad when you guys feel bad for Faker when he had to play Galio Mid because actual mid laners were useless.

"more of a champion pool than 10 AD carries and Janna, which was legit my champion pool"

That is the kind of champion pool that is not diverse enough for other lanes. 10 champions is enough, but that they are all doing roughly the same thing is an issue. Around there he also mentioned how he only started trying out the newcomers to bot 2 or 3 days before the interview. Being so slow to adapt, especially since he also expected Riot to change things back to an ADC dominant bot lane the next patch (15:35 for when he says that), is something that doesn't work in other lanes.

People in other roles don't have that kind of thinking. When our stuff is ruined we expect to be able to use it again in a year or so if we are lucky, not the very next patch. We all know ADCs aren't that strong right now but it has been 2 patches since the crit changes, once it has been at least 5 patches you might be in a situation that is comparable to any other role.

"kind of feel like the game is more fun again"

Just an interesting little quote there. Seems that changing the bot lane up isn't all bad in his eyes, just not so great for his place in pro play.

He had a couple of other thoughts I found interesting like how going a marksman made you free food for Nocturne, as opposed to the mage/bruiser in your lane, or how Kai'sa and Lucian can still carry.
