@Riot Rylais: where is the ingenuity?

Mordepool··26 votes·1,197 views

So Permanent Slows are a problem. Rylais was a big offender because of continuous AP nerf to all other items left it as a viable choice to everyone instead of a niche pick.

After all the good ideas thrown about on the boards "the best " was to cut the item in half and leave it overpriced??????!!!!????!

You could have. Implemented a measure to prevent stacking slows being applied from the same item.

Return it to its Bruiser roots more health and alot less ap.

Make the slow part an activated ability that lasts for 10 seconds

Reduce the slow% based off of your AA Range (40% max for melee - 5%per range increment)

These are just a few ideas that are better than Gut& Dumpster.
So I'll ask again where was the ingenuity in your changes?

Rylais was the the last line of defense for immobile mages in the sea of hyper mobile champs. Even now a riven/yasuo/ can out run most mages with the slow.

Even though slows as a mechanic counter the immobile champions the most?

Unfortunately with the exception of the Grounded mechanic, every other measure for immobile champions against mobile champions will work better against other immobile champions.

We need More Grounded CC and less slows. The Mobility is out of hand has been for 3 seasons

Immobile mages can do surprisingly well against mobile champions even without a 40% slow on all their abilities. Positioning may be a risky business, as is predicting, but it's a living.

They hired a bunch of kids fresh out of their gender studies degrees, you can't expect ingenuity.

But that's just the thing Riot has been delivering an impressive amount of ingenuity over the years with how they deal with problems. There are exceptions of course but those are usually knee jerk reactions when they don't have time to formulate an ideal change. They took 2-3 patches and this solution isn't ideal

Every option you mentioned could create new balance problems, they also wanted to nerf both the stats and the slow. They could have done something diiferent but they prefered the safest option.

Honestly, the only thing they need to do with this item is get rid of the hp. Right now it is the prime item for lane bullies like syndra and viktor who abuse the high hp the item gives with their extreme base damages. They become unkillable while deleting the opposing laners hp bar.

Listen, I know it may sound weird, but the hp the item gives is the real problem with it. If that champion did not have the extra 400 hp, then if you turn on them it gives you a chance to kill them, even with the slow. With that extra 400 hp it feels like you are trapped by a juggernaut who will be able to survive long enough to get 2-3 whole rotations off. You really don't get the chance to fight back favorably when they get that much hp.

I disagree the AP is the problem the item is meant to Synergize with a JUGGERNAUT Mordekaiser who needs health + Slow to function
The abuse cases are burst mages why let them have another tool

Idk what kind of mordekaiser you play, I usually just go abyssal, thornmail and hextech and just split the whole game.

Cutting the health would bring some mortality to viktor, cassiopeia, kat and syndra who can facetank your combo because theirs will do more damage, also the hp from rylais will protect them.

If you take away the ap, then you just delete more ap from the ap item pool, and make it unviable on the majority of mages that used it before.

To be fair, on champion.gg there are only 2 midlaners in the top ten that build rylais, viktor and syndra. They already have very high base damages, giving them hp in lane is much more effective than building ap in lane. Ap or not, those 2 will one cycle you in lane, thats the reason that they are building giants belt on their first back so often now, it keeps them from dying in lane, while they one burst anyone they are up against.

What is happening here is that the hp is being exploited instead of the ap or slow, not to say the slow is insignificant, being slowed by a tanky syndra or viktor removes any chance of escaping their one burst, not that there was much of a chance of escape in the first place.

Removing ap from ryalis is what mordekaier needs, but mordekaiser isn't every mage in the game.

actually, I rather like that. that would fix a lot of abuse cases, I think. Maybe a shorter active time (7 seconds) tho
