Why are people so obsessed with shortening pick and ban phase?

I don't get it. It is your rank at stake, whatever you ban and pick gives you an edge or put you at a disadvantage. Right now pick-ban phase lasts about 30(intent)+6x30(bans)+10x30(picks)+30(final check)= 540 seconds = 9 minutes. 4 more bans would make it 11 minutes. It is a significant duration, but unless your intention is to be stomped in under 20 minutes, 10 minutes lobby is not at all bad. If your average game lasts 35-40 minutes, champ select duration is still very short in comparison. Also, I use this time to think what picks are available during bans, then about what I am going to build, where I want to roam and who will be a threat at which phase of the game. Instead, we are getting everything to randomize things and promote "me pick, me bash" mentality. I feel like a whole layer of strategy is being ripped from ranked with this change of ban format, in favor of reducing ban times.

Think of the horrors when somebody dodges

Because there's always that one guy that dodges at the end.

Sorry if we dont want to waste 10 minutes just trying to get into the freaking game.

cus i'd rather the amount of time I'm in champ select and waiting to get into champ select be under 20% of my total time played.

the worst thing that they did is this forced autofill below challenger, i agree in challenger 20 min que is ridiculous but why we need it in the lower raiting. its stupid to see autofilled ppl whining about that all day long. season 7 is the worst ranked season by far, im playing since season 4 eh good old times when game quality > wait time.

Well, in my experience, almost everybody waits until the last second to lock in picks and bans (I've seen a couple who were actually fairly quick about it), so having to wait the full nine minutes just to get into a match is annoyingly long. Made even longer by the rare queue-dodger, which basically doubles the time to get into a match (~16m for two champ select screens, ~3-5 minutes for queue times).

Add onto that loading screen times, and that's at least 12~ you have to spend idle before you can actually start the game. Shortening the time between clicking "Start Search" and buying your first few items is a good thing.

I also don't get what you mean by the "me pick, me bash" mentality. I don't feel that there's any layers of strategy getting taken out of the game with the 10-ban format, since it is ostensibly (and Riot stated this as a goal) promoting players to be able to ban their Champion's counters or Champions that they don't do well against, effectively optimizing their game-to-game play.

So, being able to knock out a Champion I don't want to face off against and also having to wait less time before getting to play? Win/win, IMO.

Why i would not want a longer ban phase? Because, simply put, if the most of the playerbase is convinced that you win or lose a game depending by what champs are picked and banned, then i would rather have no ban phase at all than a 10 minutes one, because none will be ever happy that all the champs that are he or she considers to be an autowin are being banned anyway. We will always read things like "OMG Fiora open GG" "My enemy is Fizz please jungler camp my lane" "I can't do nothing vs Illaoi, please open mid" and so on.

So the actual effectiveness of a longer ban phase is completely subjective, and mostly delusional. I'm happy with the 10 incoming bans anyway not because i indeed fear some champs and i wanted them banned because i'm sure i would lost against them, but rather because i HATE them and i do not want to see them no matter what, so i'm more than fine with being given every means necessary to be sure that i will never see a Yasuo ever again in my games.

So we can play summoners rift sooner rather than later
