Think I'll take a break till next season. Season 8 feels more for spectators than players.
Honestly with how little the laning phase matters and how quickly games transition into roaming and team fighting and just how snowbally it can be now, I feel like they changed league to be more interesting for esports viewership without any consideration to the enjoyability of the game itself.
For me, one of the most fun parts of the game was the laning phase. Now it feels like laning phase is hardly a thing before ADCs spike early and spill over into other lanes and you really don't have a lot of time to get ahead in lane. I understand that the carefully calculated and timed harass and farming between two lane opponents isn't that interesting to look at for spectators and so there may have been motivation to force more roam and get ADCs online earlier so that team stuff can happen for the big screen, but it honestly feels like roles don't matter much outside of ADC. And the ones that do matter (junglers / enchanter supports) mostly exist to help snowball / protect the ADC.
Top lane may as well just not be a thing, they have so little impact on the game, and with the rework to mana and mana items, it feels like mages are struggling with being OOM for most of the game now. It just feels like Riot is very heavy handedly trying to force the game to be a certain way and personally I'm not enjoying the direction they're taking the game.
I'll have to be stuck with this gold banner next season but if it means not having to play any more season 8, so be it. Uninstalling and going to play Battlerite till (if) this game gets more enjoyable to play again.
